In today's world where everything seems to cost an arm and a leg, the Homestead Cafe & Cabins provide excellent options, for amazing food, and a reasonable price. One can buy a fast food hamburger for a few dollars less, but what then they are missing the size and quality of the burger, the condiment options, and the high quality bun. I would alway recommend Homestead Cafe & Cabins for anyone that is look for a great burger, old fashion milkshake, and other amazing foods.

This is what you can get for $14 here at Jan's. It tasted good and the service was good.they are under new ownership. My husband isn't too happy with the amount of food for the price. To me, I take in to account how in the middle of nowhere they are. I definitely recommend it.

Great little "old school roadhouse" feel... rolled in at 9 p.m. on a Sunday night, and four greetings cheerfully by the staff, and also the chef. For staff that was ready to close in just an hour, they were sure happy to see us. Got some good old-fashioned Roadhouse vittles. Those who complain about the food being slow ours was fast now in defense of other post here we were the only people in the whole place at the time. I am used to traveling the Alaska Highway often at least twice a year... I have always wanted to stop here but never have when they were open I was just to sleep in the rest stop and keep going. I love the old time Alaska Highway style of Roadhouse feels that is here.. The music was loud but I like their taste in music and they actually asked me if it was too loud and offered to turn it down but I actually said Crank It Up. I understand that they were cleaning and getting ready to go home when we showed up color shown some excellent hospitality, and customer service. The chef even came over to ask for food was prepared okay and to our liking. Everyone in my party was extremely satisfied, the chicken cordon bleu soup was choice, even got compliments from our party on how fresh the dinner salad was even though it was just one hour from them closing. I got the ribeye steak, my son got chicken fried steak, grilled ham and cheese, sirloin steak, mozzarella fingers, and chili cheese fries as an appetizer. Four of us ate the chili cheese fries portions are good size for the price. Another reviewer here complaining that they wouldn't substitute with chili cheese fries without charging the 1175 price. After seeing the size of the chili cheese fries I understand why they wouldn't substitute and there be no upcharge. I don't know all the circumstances behind that but I would say( get real whiner) you're lucky places like this still exist along the road and I'm more than happy to oblige them by paying full price and not being a cheapskate. In fact of my $97 bill I left a tip for $40 for the staff... oh, I work hard for my money and I'm not rich oh, but I just wanted to make these people day for a good job, and great service. I have nothing to gain by posting this and I don't know these people, but I will be back as a patron to visit their establishment on my next way through town. Always and forever as long as it's there.

We stopped for a bite and were greeted with a very unexpected experience! Maddie was our server, and Allan was our cool, and both made the food and conversation made this stop one of the best we have had in the last year of driving coast to coast! 10/10 will come again!!!Parking: CMV Truck parking in front and around the corner at the rest area.

Stopped in for lunch on a road trip. Waitress was super friendly. I had a Lima burger and they let me sub chili for chips for a few extra dollars. All delicious! My Dad’s order was wrong but he ate it and still enjoyed it. We all agreed it was far superior to the fast food burger place we went to yesterday and the price was about the same.

Great place to stop for breakfast. They have breakfast sausage made especially for them. It's the size of a large hamburger and very delicious! Staff was warm and friendly. Convenient for on-off freeway access.

First customers of the morning and server was alone at the start to cook and take orders and with the highway having been closed the people kept pouring in the doorway. She smiled and greeted every single person that walked in the door and when her help arrived she was able to focus on keeping everyone happy and food flowing and coffees full.Best server I've had pleasure of having in many years. If not ever. Keep up the great work.The food was amazing as well. Look forward to returning in warmer weather of course. On motorcycle:)Dessert for the road and travel mugs filled too.Thank you

The 1/2 lb burgers were tasty, but my whole family got food poisoning. It was good enough that I might be willing to give it another shot anyway though.The fries were nothing to write home about.Kid-friendliness: Fair. They had high chairs.

You never know what you’re gonna get while traveling. We love to hit little local places and sometimes they’re great, sometimes not so much. This place is a gem. Had breakfast and let me tell you, the lady can cook. Also the best sausage patty I’ve ever eaten. The eggs were perfect and everything came out hot and fresh, I don’t think they even have warming lamps. They were slammed when we came in and figuring out a new computer system…..never faltered once even though only two people were serving a packed house. Plan on hanging out for a minute if they’re busy, but it’s worth it. Friendly, polite, efficient, and delicious home cooked food. Doesn’t get better!

If a negative rating was available it would be given here. I rarely ever rate any establishment so negatively, but Jan's Cafe is a joke.One week ago I stopped by this establishment to grab "a quick bite to eat", so I ordered and paid for biscuits and gravy to-go. After paying I wanted to sit and wait but there was no seating provided for waiting, at all .. I stood around and glanced thru all of the 20 square feet of the souvenir section of the restaurant for well over 45 minutes. The young girl handling the seating and orders made things even more unbearable with her scowling at my pacing back and forth yet not once apologized for whatever caused the delays. When I asked how much longer I'd be waiting "for a take out order of biscuits and gravy" she told me it'd be another half an hour, I questioned her asking "are you serious? An order of biscuits and gravy is going to take well over an hour and possibly an hour and a half?" She replied "Yes, that's how long it takes." I asked for my money back, her attitude was incredibly rude as she counted out my refund and threw it on the counter and then huffed away to the kitchen area.I've never heard of a cafe taking so long on such a simple and common dish, and the attitude I encountered only added insult to the entire experience. Jan's Cafe is a joke.

I ordered a patty melt couldn't get it because it is a special. But got a hamburger with a slice of onion barely cooked. Lettuce was awful looking and had been unrefrigerated for a while. Waitress had a very bad attitude. We were there a few days ago and it was very good. They have new owners and today was the cook's this cook's first day. I would not go there again. Judy Murphy

Drove by on the 15 and glanced over and saw this place. Something told me I needed to go back. Drove 5 miles down to the next exit turned around and headed back. So glad I did! Very friendly and nice folks and excellent food and service. The server Alyssa was so friendly and sweet and had a smile so beautiful I’m pretty sure it melted the snow outside. Enjoyed good conversation, amazing food, good coffee, and warm welcoming environment! What more could you ask for! I’ll be back and I’ll be telling everyone to stop😁
