What a great store. I came to look for a Christmas gift and couldn’t decide because there were so many choices. I ended up spending a lot of time looking at all the books they have. Of course there are lots of terrific clothing options. I didn’t realize there was so many accessories and different sections. The layout is very inviting and the staff is all very friendly, despite it being such a busy time of year.

Just had the world’s nicest experience at the Base Camp. I was there to pick up my XC skis after getting them waxed- which cost a mere $10! Then the nice ski tech (Colton?) suggested an inexpensive maintenance wax that I could use to *ahem* not let my poor skis get so dry again. Added that to my cart! THEN I asked the folks working the front desk some questions about local ski trails, which they answered knowledgeably. And finally, a box of winter greeting cards featuring festive paintings of black dogs caught my eye, and so I threw that it in, too! Utter delight!

My husband and I were in the Helena Base Camp looking for a new pair of classic cross-country skis a couple times this year after having purchased skate skis a few years ago with the help of Ray. Once again Ray was extremely knowledgeable. It was impressive that he remembered us from before and our abilities. His ability and willingness to explain the pro and cons of different skiis was very helpful. Even during the end of season sale he was very patient. I wish I remembered the other young male sales associate as he was helpful too. Base Camp has great customer service with knowledgeable employees who are willing to assist or just let you look around. Thank you Base Camp!

I needed to get a pair of proper mittens for skiing this year (my gloves just don't cut it for how cold it can get some days at Great Divide). The staff walked me through mitten selection until I found a pair that came with a set of liners that can also have the tops fold back for fine finger dexterity.These mittens and liners have become a staple in my daily life here in Helena this winter and I couldn't be happier. The store is very clean and well organized and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable without being at all pushy.If you want to chat and go deep into a topic they'll gladly do it. If you want to browse in quite solitude they'll let you do that as well. Overall a very great store.

Richie and the entire staff here were so extremely helpful, nothing but the best stuff sold here! I really appreciated that Richie took the time to explain the benefits of anything I was looking for and also pointed out other gear that may work better for my needs. Definitely never felt pressured to buy anything in particular, they were most concerned with getting the right stuff. Can't recommend highly enough

Great selection of outdoor gear for such a small store. The gear rentals are awesome and very reasonably priced! And I believe they sell the rental gear at the end of each season which is awesome if you don't want to pay full price. Speaking of full price, most of the stuff they sell is at MSRP, so it can be a little pricey if you shop here a lot. But it's a smaller local store so it makes sense. The gamblers sales they have often are also an awesome way to get things on sale! They also have a great return policy! Base camp is my favorite local outdoor store I've shopped at!

Loved it. What a cool hometown outdoor store. Full service ski shop, tuned them up for me in quick order. Much appreciated. Great selection whether you are climbing, skiing, hiking, boarding, or camping. The staff is super friendly and very knowledgeable. I spent way more time here than I would in any other store this size. The place is on point.

Great gear. A little pricey, but they've been in Helena for a long time and their service is really good. The staff are quite knowledgeable about what they sell and can also provide good advice about recreational opportunities and outdoor conditions in the surrounding mountains. Recommended highly.

Again, another gem of an outdoor/camp store in Montana! They seemed to have all the basics a camper r hiker might need along with most of the neat gear you buy even if you don't need it. The staff was knowledgeable, pleasant and helpful. Its worth a trip if you're in town.

Just moved to Helena and was wondering where to find high end gear and The Base Camp is it. Asher was incredibly friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and understanding of there product line. I didn’t think they were overpriced either. I can buy cheaper equipment but it wears out too fast and these guys have a pretty awesome return policy

It was a great experience! We found most of the items we needed. Maybe the one that helped us will remember us. He called several other shops to find a rain cover for a small day pack for us.I can tell you we looked in about 6 or 7 stores we didn't find it. 😉We loved the atmosphere in the shop it reminds to the outdoor shop where I work back in Belgium... 🙂

Great store, with excellent selection of outdoor gear. Asher was awesome! He not only patiently helped our ten year old daughter choose a custom fitted backpack, Asher even took the time to help me adjust my REI backpack! Highly recommend The Base Camp for all your outdoor gear needs!

This is Helena's very own version of REI, but better. The staff are all fabulous, the clothing selection for both women and men is excellent, and they always have what I'm looking for not to mention a few things I'm not looking for ;) I shop here year round for gear and for presents. Just love this store.

Great locally owned outdoor sports store. Their "gamblers" sale twice a year, is great. Lower and lower prices for three weeks. Gamble and wait and it might be gone. Great deals on clothes, footwear and equipment. All the brand name, high quality stuff.

Great local shop for outdoor gear. Had to have a pair of climbing shoes sent from Billings and they were here in a few days. They also ended up being on sale! Also, climbing chalk here is cheaper than on amazon for the same product. Shop Local!

Ray (rentals) is a true gem and a wealth of knowledge on all things floaty. Whatever kind of water adventure you're looking for, he's the guy to hook you up. Great selection of gear and dog-friendly - love The Base Camp!

Bought a 5 gallon collapsible water tote from them that cost around $20. Tried to use it and water poured out of the seal when closed and leaked out the side while pouring. I tried to bring it back for refund or exchange and I was told they had the problem before and the company wouldn't warranty it, and that it was just a poor design. He told me he couldn't do anything for me and that I should look at other stores for a different designed spout of better quality that would fit it. I literally bought it from them the week prior and had the receipt in hand. Apparently they felt fine about selling low quality products and leaving the burden on the customer.
