What a treat it was to stay at the historic Grand Union Hotel! We appreciated the warm welcome we received when we arrived on a dark, rainy evening. Our room was clean and had a wonderful view of the Missouri River and fall colors. We’d like to especially thank Cindy and Karen for their hospitality, friendliness, and information about local highways and sights to see. We look forward to our next visit!—Kathy and Steven T. Beautiful historic architecture. Note restaurant was closed Monday and Tuesday when I was here but VFW has food late and Wake Cup is great in the morning. Both just a short walk.Walkability: Short walk to VFW clubhouse which had a very nice BLT and Dragons Breath. Also short walk to Wake Cup coffee house and restaurant where I had coffee, baked goods, and a Blue Cheese burger, all recommended.

Consistency…..the GU has not mastered this yet. As a repeat customer something is always wrong. We stay at the GU 1 or 2 times a year for about 4-5 days.Breakfast is muffins and coffee. When there isn’t anything else open for breakfast in town you should offer breakfast to your guests. Especially when there are only a handful of guests staying. Our meal Wednesday night was ok, what saved it was the A+ service. It almost always seems that one meal is subpar while another is good. Most times we let them know, this time we didn’t. There was only 1 other table….the food should be perfect. I wasn’t going to complain. But when you pay $30-50 a plate the meals should always be A+ as no matter how many people are seated. I will mention that it’s nice that they now have liquor.I understand it’s an old hotel. The room was well appointed and clean. The shower was like standing under a kitchen faucet. There wasn’t any pressure. Lot’s of noises and konks when the heat turned on and pipes gurgling. One day the building (lobby & hallway) smelled of sewage. It was pretty horrible.Still no daily housekeeping in the hotel. We have to ask for more towels & toiletries (no biggie). It would be nice to have the room fluffed up just once when staying 4 days especially when the front desk gal says ‘oh yeah, I need to look at that better and have more towels for people staying a few nights. I’m just used to people staying one night’. And as per the owners response below we’ve never seen a sign or been told about the option of housekeeping available. I mention it every time we come, that I wish there was housekeeping. So disappointing the lack of communication. We’ve stayed here when it was under the old owners. Our first couple times with the new owners weren’t any different but we wanted to give them a chance. It seems like they are trying/wanting to make the hotel into something Ft. Benton and the owners aren’t ready for just yet. They need to offer A+ service consistently before expanding or adding anything more. Like the casino they also added (that we did not partake in). The owner below mentions they haven’t made any changes, only a friendlier menu (which I enjoyed Chef Joshs foods when he was on his own alot more vs now at the GU). Maybe thats the problem…. They need to make some changes. It’s been a couple years now. Things aren’t different at the GU. It’s just another pretty historic hotel. Honestly, we won’t continue to give them a try, we’ve given you about 3-4 tries. We will stay at an air bnb next time.

What a gem! From the moment we walked in, we were met with warm hospitality. It felt as though we were stepping back into time as the lobby was so stately. The rooms were very well appointed and comfortable. We had a room facing the street and there was no noise coming through.. The location is fantastic. It was an easy walk for us yo see everything wanted to. They are also very Service Dog friendly!Food & drinks: Fantastic restraunt! Amazing food and wonderful service.

One of the best stays in all of Montana. I always suggest a date night at the bowling alley across the street with a comfy stay on the riverfront in the Grand Union Hotel.Rooms: Spacious and Romantic.Nearby activities: Bowling and bars.Walkability: It's located in the town center. Very easy to find your way back to the room after getting..., ummm, having a few drinks responsibly.

What a great find: vintage hotel, beautiful riverside location, excellent restaurant. Wish we had time to do more than just passing through. Delightful service from Cindy for checkin, and Adele for dinner! House-made bangers & mash, great Bozone Amber ale.Only wish is guest breakfast available earlier for those departing before 7 am

This hotel is a lovely old gal, right on the river. The restaurant is very good also. If you want to relax and watch the waters roll by, book a reviver view room. It's only 50 feet away.Nearby activities: River rafting, biking, hikingFood & drinks: The restaurant is some of the finest dining in the area. Simple and delicious preparations.

The Union Grille Restaurant. Low-key fine dining in a Historical Old World setting. Chef Benjamin Thorpe (Grew up as a USAF dependent) & his team cook diverse and phenomenally prepared dishes with locally sourced & high quality ingredients. Excellent selection of wine and The Golden Triangle Brew Co. across the street brews a specialty beer Only for the Union Grille. Reservations recommended! I cannot recommend this restaurant any higher!Fort Benton, 35- 40 mins. (straight shot!) from Great Falls, Montana. The Grand Union Hotel: Clean & comfortable, well appointed rooms in a lovingly restored historical building. Enjoy the quaint, riverside town of Fort Benton, one of Montana’s first settlements! Stay a night and enjoy the phenomenal restaurant, The Union Grille.

We were driving through Montana and needed a hotel. We usually plan way ahead and underestimated how many cities with hotels there would be. We were very relieved to find a room available online at this hotel for a reasonable price (especially compared to the rest in Great Falls). The hotel has a very cool feel with all the history and grand look. Breakfast was very pretty and had fresh food food. Check in and out was fast and easy. Wifi was a bit difficult to connect to, shower head had a bit of a screeching noise, and the mattress was a bit sunken in the middle. But we did not bring these issues to the desk and none of then would detract from the overall hotel. Room was clean and pretty and I almost wish we'd had another night to explore the area and stay at this pretty hotel again.

Amazing one night stay and absolutely loved it. The room was spacious clean and very comfortable. Lots of attention to detail here the owner and the lady working at the front desk truly are good at what they do. They make guests feel welcomed and share their knowledge of history of this location with all the intricacies that one would want to hear about.

So glad we drove 45 min extra to get to Grand Union it was fantastic. The rooms and décor were memorable . Everything was so Christmassy. Everybody was so nice and professional. Our dinner meal was first rate and served by one of the best servers we have met . The chef was very good and friendly. If you are in the area don't miss this fantastic place and experience

Fort Benton, MT is a small town with a ton of history. Right on main street, sitting just feet from the river, is the crown jewel of Montana... the Grand Union Hotel. Our performing group, Here Comes The Sun Band, had already heard about it, and she more than lived up to the glowing recommendations. Most hotels offer a place to sleep, and occasionally one stands out for service and other amenities. The Grand Union is the total package... clean, historic, elegant but not stuffy or fake, delicious food and beverages with an amazing chef, stories galore with a dedicated and caring staff.Cheryl, you are a fabulous host, and we are grateful for the personal time and service you gave us. Lila, your enthusiasm and knowledge of Ft Benton's past is magical. Thank you both for making our stay so memorable.5 stars all the way. Can't wait to return to the Grand Union oasis!!

WOW!!!! This place is amazing. It is beautifully restored and very well maintained. Its location right next to the river is beautiful. The history here is amazing and very interesting. This is a great town and worth a stop by to check it out and take a walk along the river. The BLM interpretive center down the street is great too! Check it out!

The hotel stay was very enjoyable. It's very comfortable, clean, and has a beautiful view of the river. It felt like we had stepped into another place & time, which I loved. Any of the staff we interacted with were delightful and very genuine. We ate at The Union Grill as well. Everything was delicious, but several items my husband wanted to order were not available including the Chef Sampler (due to Exec Chef being out), the Beef Tenderloin, and the Red Wine Pears. His runner-up choices tasted exquisite though (I tested them all myself because that's how much I love the guy!). We are both excited for our next visit and hope to time it better when we can the the Chef Sampler! :)

Our glacier plans fell through (Corona) so we found a new place. We had a general idea about location and ended up seeing this classic hotel right on the Missouri River. It ended up being a great change to have to make. Fort Benton Waterfront has a great little historical walk. The food at the Grille was brilliant. Beds were comfy. Staff was friendly. Really had a great stay.

We ended up not staying. We called ahead to see if any rooms were available. There were. Front desk lady needed a credit card number to hold the room, so we told her instead we would just arrive & pay in cash. We didnt have much on the plastic til payday. She insited she needed a credit card number to hold the room. We told her we didn't need her to hold one for us, we'd get whatever was available IF available when we got there. We were already in town, just finishing dinner. She got this tone to her voice like she was very annoyed & repeated again that she needed a credit card number to hold the room.I could see her brains didn't extend past reading a sentence from the policy. I had already told her we would be paying in cash when we get there. Didn't have time for such stupidity. We just hung up the phone. We were not going to deal with hard-headedness. We were having a good day & didnt want anyone to ruin it for us. We didn't stay & probably will not stay in the future for the reason that she almost seemed to want to force our account information from us. But overall it was ominous to insist & then be rude with such a thing.

Stopped here on a whim and are so glad we did! They were very accommodating to our very hungry toddler and they food was excellent. I had the special which was a delicious beef bourguignon over mashed potatoes and my wife has a burger. The sweet potato soup was phenomenal as was their wine list. Will definitely be back!

Great views of the river from room 202, the bed was super comfortable! We loved celebrating our first anniversary here! Restaurant is terrific, highly recommend the goat cheese balls, ricotta gnocchi, and tenderloin. All glammed up for Christmas too with beautiful decorations. We'll be back.

I loved everything about my stay here except the wifi. I needed it for work and it kept disconnecting. Being a tech person, I can tell that the hotel does everything they can to have good wifi - so this was a provider issue. I'd also suggest easier access to plug ins. This is a great hotel for a relaxing getaway. Staff is excellent and breakfast was great!
