love this place but came in tonight, waited in a long line just to find out that they were out of milk and others for the milkshakes. would’ve been nice if the sign was on the window so we knew before we waited in line. otherwise ice cream is very good

Big Dipper Ice Cream is a great place to grab ice cream with friends and family. The selection is varied and includes interesting (in a good way) combinations. They do offer free samples so that you can try several types. I chose mocha chip, which was absolutely delicious. It was a beautiful evening, so I enjoyed the outdoor seating. The staff was friendly and fast.

I absolutely love the Big Dipper. I discovered it when I went to college in Missoula and was overjoyed when the Billings location opened up. Always great quality, homemade ice cream served with a smile. My fav is the Little Dipper with coconut ice cream and a banana. If I’m not in the mood for that, the strawberry milkshake is to die for or my summertime go to- the root beer float. Thank you for being a wonderful local spot that serves up great ice cream. You guys are the best.

Wonderful ice cream shop in the lovely downtown Billings! Tried huckleberry and salted caramel, they are greatly flavored and moderately sweetened. Nice interior with bright decorations.Only downside is that you can’t see the ice cream, but you can always try as many flavor as you want.

Nice place! We stopped for ice cream and got huckleberry ice cream waffle cones. Kids cones dipped in chocolate sprinkles. Store was cool, clean...staff was friendly and helpful.

I absolutely love big dipper ice cream! Made in-house ice cream. I usually get the huckleberry with a cake cone, and it is delicious. My girlfriend gets black licorice, which I have also tried and is also yummy. I don't think you could go wrong with any flavor they have.

This may have been at one point a great ice cream place, now its just a hole in the wall.Servers are unfriendly, milkshakes are blah, the "Sunday" was a joke. Was mostly whip cream.Over a year ago I went here and had a great experience. Obviously that is no longer. Would not recommend to my worst enemy. Id rather take the chance at getting McDonald's ice cream; even though their machine is broken 99% of the time.Such a shame for a place with such high reviews.

The ice cream itself was great, with an awesome, more-than-generous scoop for a good price. However, I was a bit underwhelmed with the menu. It's hard to explain why, but as a brand new customer, what would've helped is to see pictures of the ice cream with various toppings and maybe some 'local favorites' flare with inspirational combinations and sizes to try. The closest thing that comes to mind is Cold Stone. I didn't see any prominent presentation of the ice cream or toppings. I appreciate that less is more, but sometimes it's easiest to make a choice when I see it (I'm also willing to spend more to get it). Oh, another ice cream shop that comes to mind is Sweet Peaks! Anyways, I look forward to coming back again to try out different flavors, combinations, and maybe learn what other toppings and possibilities they have.

Delicious!!! In the summer it's super busy, crazy line, but totally worth it. Fresh made ice cream with unique flavors. Hand made cones, it's great because you can taste before you buy. Shakes, sundaes really big cones you won't leave hungry.

Fantastic ice cream spot! Great flavor variety, great texture, friendly service and generous portions. They let you try a couple flavors, which is good because they have some really unique ones like cardamom (delicious, but not sure you'd want more than half a scoop in a serving) and licorice. I also liked the white mint Oreo. Will definitely go back and try more flavors next time I'm in town!

Icecream was great. However we will not be returning due to customer services! we came in 10 min before closing I get it but we took our treats to go. My husband has eye issues and was having a hard time reading the menu. So I was reading him the menu and there was a kid there who was standing there glaring at us the whole time behind the counter l. He had horrible customer service. He was rude and cold. He sat there with his arms crossed and just gave us dirty looks while we read the menu. But as soon as someone he knew walked in his attitude changed and he started being friendly and talking to her.

I come here with my kiddo at least once a week! Super awesome. Unfortunately had to leave after waiting for about 20 minutes. The girl working there was moving alarmingly slow. 😪 If there's a line of people waiting the pace should pick up 😉

Wow!! My family celebrated the end of the I Love Dance comp in Billings every year with Big Dipper Ice Cream!! Sustainable spoons and packaging. Great stickers. Best ice cream! I had the coconut today and it was better than fresh coconut ice cream I had in Hawaii!

High quality ice cream. Best coffee ice cream I've ever had. Recommend to get it in a waffle cone. If you're into shakes, don't overlook the add ons or substitutions they offer (ex:coconut shake plus espresso).Keep an eye out for the seasonal Irish Whiskey flavor.

Looking at this local ice cream shop, I have found it to be better then other places. The biggest part that I love is that they make the ice cream and one of the cones "in house". They are the only place that carries coconut ice cream. It is my favorite! Compared to other ice cream shops, this place has a better price range. For instance, the shakes here would be almost twice the price at other places. They do have limited seating. That makes it hard to find a place to sit during peak hours, especially in winter. Otherwise, they are amazing!

Big Dipper Ice Cream is a great place to go with friends. While I often go to Baskin Robins, Big Dipper was a new place to go because of their enjoyably different flavors. I had the Black Licorice, it was my first time, and it was amazing. While other places might be cheaper, we believe Big Dipper has higher quality ice cream. The ice cream was very creamy and tasty. Overall, 9/10, factoring in flavors, price, and quality. No real complaints.
