I like bringing my dog here sometimes to walk the boardwalk trail or the overlook behind the building. From what I’ve seen the place is kept up nice. Went into the building once to look at the exhibits and gift shop. Gift shop was cash-only. The people working inside that day were friendly

The hike is relatively short along the boardwalk, but offers some great views within the actual swamp. During the spring and summer you will see plenty of wildlife such as snakes and aquatic insects, and the fall and winter offers fantastic bird watching opportunities. The drive around the refuge costs $3 per vehicle but is worth it to see the natural state of southeast Missouri.Restrooms: There are small restroom stops along the route that actually well kept.

My Grandpa Green used to take us out there when I was a kid. Brought back a lot of memories and a great place to walk my dog, Rocky. Great scenery and a beautiful day.

My son and I have been going on the boardwalk for several years now. It's our time for peace, and to spot as many animals as we possibly can along the walk.

This was a great visit. The location is beautiful and easy to get to, the staff onsite were all happy to be there, and of course it was a pleasant environment to be in. Can't complain about anything.

Great birding, very nice swamp boardwalk. Very interesting loop drive. Restrooms were spotlessly clean. Visitors center was closed in the middle of the week so that was a little disappointing , but overall a great springtime Visit for migrating birds.

There is so much to see here. Ditches line the roadways for miles. Some areas are open while some areas are fully wooded. You will see deer, maybe some beavers, owls, Hawks. It's a beautiful place to drive and walk. The trails and boardwalks are enjoyable during the winter, summer, and fall.

Pretty nice place. We went when still cool and was nice. Summer I could see humidity would be almost unbearable. There is a gravel road around the place that takes at least an hour to drive. There are some nice views, but mostly ditches with water and turtles. They have a big new visitor center, but it was closed when we were there. It's worth a stop if close by. There is an honor system of paying $3 to enter the park. Not sure what they would do if you didn't have the dash sticker.

I LOVE Mingo or at least the way it used to be kept up on the trails. The Visitors Center is a HUGE improvement & I'm only giving it 3 stars because of the trail or so called trail leading to the Boardwalk when you walk out of the back of the visitors Center. I didn't think my family & I were going to make it. There were THREE TREES down covering up the trail, tons of large rocks, & it hadn't been taken care of in a VERY long time. The trail itself was HALF the size of your average trail in width & overgrown in weeds. There were a few places where it was difficult to tell which direction the trail was supposed to go.I worked at Mingo in 1992 in the YCC program. We had to keep up on every trail making sure they were all safe. This certainly was NOT safe. All 4 of us slipped at least once on the big mossy rocks. While I don't expect perfection I would at least expect an effort.

Outstanding park! The visitor center is small but so we'll done. The short movie is a must before you go to the swamp. The boardwalk is well maintained and easy to follow. We went on a lovely fall day during the week and had the swamp all to ourselves. We saw a Great Blue Heron, many birds, and turtles. Love being retired!!

Impressive and beautiful. We were there after a summertime flood, so the boardwalk hike was beautiful. There are a lot of interesting roads to drive down to see other areas of the refuge. Hard to believe this was once where the Mississippi River flowed.

The museum and boardwalk are great. Cool place to visit on a Spring or Fall day. By the way, the sign that says uneven ground, really means uneven ground. If you want to walk from the museum to the boardwalk, the goat trail going down the hill is not for the elderly or lame. Going down requires sure footing and going up requires a bit of fitness.

Have wanted to visit Mingo for decades. I was not disappointed! Read about it a number of times in "Missouri Conservationist." Truly unique for Missouri! Extremely beautiful! I'm not a birder but Mingo is hugely important for migrating and wintering water fowl. Even if you don't like fishing, hiking, etc. there are 3 auto tours for exploring its' incredible beauty. Planning on coming back in the Winter.
