Boutique. Men don't seem welcome here unless on an errand for a wife. Rude plus unfriendly plus limited useful inventory equals I won't spend another cent in Running House Ranch & Home. Amazon treats me with more respect. The owner is particularly nasty to Veterans. For over ten years, I shopped this store. I have never been treated any better than an annoyance. It really is little more than a BOUTIQUE. Farmers and ranchers know better than to refit here. BOUTIQUE.

Since I can't respond to the comments from the first review - YOU get another bad review. YEAH!!WOW! I have no idea which customer you thought you were responding to but it wasn't me. First of all, I DID NOT cuss at anyone. I do talk loud and I am proud of it. I did not scream at anyone. Your cashier puffed out his chest and said no - like he was proud to turn me down. When the person followed me outside - I was at my car and further away than normal and I said "you are wrong". And the man threw up his hands at me, and I stated that I have bought those same items from here tax exempt. By this time I was in my car and it was running - of course, I had to talk louder for him to hear me.AND AS for the tax exempt items I try to buy in your store - yes you are wrong. With my tax exempt status, I can buy anything for my business except cigerettes and alcohol. There are other tax exempt status, like agriculture, schools and churches that have different limitations, but my business does not fall into those categories. Let me put it this way, out of all the stores I buy from, your store is the only one that chooses to restrict items. You better call Tractor Supply, Walmart, Packs, UPCO, Petsmart, Petco, Orschlens, Farm and Family Home, Ace Hardware, and everyone else to tell them they are are doing it incorrectly, since you think you are the only person doing it right. Might want to give the State of Missouri a call too and they can tell you as well, not the IRS, that your cashier was so sure that is who he'd get in trouble with.But since I get a disagreement about purchasing items with tax exempt staus EVERY TIME I am in your store, I jus come and buy the stuff I need without asking for tax exemption. It is easier and I don't have to try to explain the difference. I just file the tax paid with the state and I get it back. It is a pain to do so, but you are the cause of it. They get those reciepts so I had none to bring them to prove to you that someone in your store had honored the tax exempt status. And yes I have shopped there since two years..... It has probably been two years since you honored the tax exempt status. This past spring summer and fall, I have bought several items like flowers, vegetable plants, mulch, shavings, rabbits food, and more, but I am done with your store. And your employees are rude - everytime I go in - they act like they can't be bothered, or walk right by never asking if you need anything, don't have time to help load items in a vehicle, roll their eyes, etc. LOOK AT THE REVIEWS. When I expect that rude behavior, everytime I enter the store, my guard is up. It really sucks.I will say there was one nice person in there once, but I only encountered her that one time.You have fabricated a lot in you response to me. Probably just to make me look bad and you look "perfect".Apparently, more time is spent trying to defend the store employees and actions than true customer service.And this store needs a wake up call - the store has lots of bad reviews here through Google and through Yelp and other venues.Like the lady you wouldn't give her money back for the unopened dog food - again all of those stores mentioned above will take it back....opened as well. They don't necessarily put it back on the shelf - they take the loss - you could have donated the food to a dog shelter.Shame you keep loosing customers, because of old and outdated policies. The responses to the bad reviews are always some long drawed out response to make the customer the bad guy. That states a lot about the owner. The statement used a lot is similar to "whatever is going on in your life ...... " Again blaming the customer not the staff.Good Luck to you - but I will never be back - and of course - you do not care. I will continue go to all of the stores I mentioned previously- They are great with super nice employees, great products and commintment to customer service.No need to respond to this - It will just make me laugh harder!

I stop in after work to get my chicken feed. I'm always greeted when I come in. I rarely need assistance from the staff because,I've been there enough that I know where I need to go. The store is well stocked. However, when I do need help, they are always ready to answer questions and help me out. And, unlike people in other reviews, I actually enjoy the staff chatting with me when I come in. Thank you!

Store was not in stock of the item i was looking for and they had lots of holes where other things were empty also. Very cluttered and not really organized. They did have a lot of stuff but not what i was hoping for when i visited. Might call first if looking for something.

I guess it isn't appropriate to go down all aisles of the store. Sounded that way from probably the loss prevention employee or some supervisor that has no clue. If I know exactly what I want for cheap, I would just order it off of Amazon. The guy behind the counter sounded nice, though.

I have shopped in this store for years.NOT ANY MOREwent in with grandkids an from the minute I was getting out of car was watched. Then inside of store was watched to hole time like i was going to steal or the kids would or tear up store.So we will not be back again will miss the store.

They have some cool stuff for gifts and a good selection for apparel for working outside in winter..........7/24/23 after 5 pmThe older gentleman employee was not too happy to help me find an item.The lady cashier is always nice.

Great family owned local farm & home hardware store, staffs are very knowledgeable and I can get exactly what I need with one stop. The selections they have on high end power tools and brand name work outfits are great, and you just can’t find this kind of selections at other major chained retailers. Good animal feeds selection as well, our chickens are happy.

I’ve purchased my dog’s food here for 11 years for convenience and support of a local family owned business. Unfortunately I lost my beloved last week. The prior week I had bought a bag before the snowstorm but sadly she never got to it. I took it back unopened and with my receipt explaining that I no longer needed it and was refused a refund with no explanation from the very clueless and heartless sales girl. I walked out leaving the food and receipt on the counter.It’s really not about the money but principle. I will never patron this joke of a store ever again and will definitely spread the word to everyone I know. 👎🏼

Offer a great variety of items. Some things are a bit pricey, but not surprising for a small-town small business, however I buy all my animal food here and it is priced very reasonably compared to big box stores. Most workers are friendly, some seem grumpy (everyone has their days lol) but still enjoy my visits here regularly

My wife and I have been shopping at Running Horse Ranch and Home for more than a decade. The variety and quality of available goods is amazing. We discovered COLDPRUF BASE LAYER long underwear, it is remarkably comfortable and keeps us toasty. We're older folks so both of those things are really important to us. Pet food, jewelry, clothing and footwear, a fun place to shop. Even better than their remarkable inventory is the wonderful service you get from everyone who works there. That is getting to be increasingly rare these days. They treat you as though you have value. I have yet to go in there and come out empty handed. We live about an hour from the store but, it is more than worth the drive. Give them a fair shake and you will receive much more in return!

I have been shopping here at Running Horse for close to 10 years now. During this time I've never had a bad experience. I have purchased clothes, bird seed, pet supplies, nuts and bolts, lots of keys, etc. I regularly do price comparisons on items before purchasing, in doing so I've found R&H's prices to be comparable and often times lower than making a trip to the city. When doing DIY projects that I'm not sure exactly what I need, I've always been allowed to take my time and consider the options, or help - all I have to do is ask . I enjoy my conversations and chit chat with Rick, Carolyn and Blake. Their employees are friendly and courteous. I've seen great tolerance with unruly and/or out of control customers!!

Tired of the older gentleman behind a desk on your Left when walking though the front door . Years of Evil stairs straight at me every time he's there and looking at me . Last time I was there I asked him directly if they carried a simple plumbing part . Nothing but silence followed by his Evil glare shaking head back and forth . Doing my business in Smithville now . So I just moved from Texas and I needed a few things for the new house. I walk into the store, find a latch to my gate I needed, they have a great selection of everything you’ll need for your home and quite a few extras. The prices are reasonable and I was helped promptly when I couldn’t find a few things I needed.Aside from the young kid who works there (He was just doing his job) who thought I was stealing stuff it’s a solid store that has damn near anything you’ll need for your home apart from food lol.

I have been going there for my pet and bird supplies for years. They have the best prices and the best customer service around. I live in Kansas City and make the special drive up there just for those reasons! They always carry my stuff out to the car and load it for me too! They have a little bit of everything and a nice atmosphere.

Been in a few times. Each visit is about the same. They have decent stock but when I get up to the register to check out it all goes downhill. No friendliness, offer to help, or even a thank you. One time the checkout guy was clearly drunk. It took forever for him to ring us up. A little customer service makes all the difference when you have other places to shop. No wonder their parking lot is always empty.

This has happened before and I'd made up my mind not to go back, but I needed something and went in to ask.They didn't have the leather preservative I was looking for. I'll go back, but only if I have to.

Cool place...way over priced on there tools and whatnots...but have lots of great things there...it a lil local store in Platte City . I would recommend it if you need boots ,work clothes ect,...go to home Depot for the tools though...clean and nice people working there

Joan and i like to shop here. Store is always clean and people are always friendly to me and my wife. And the quality of there merchandise is top notch. I get it eveyone has a bad day from time to time but they really are very nice.

My dog's collar and leash was stolen from our campsite. went into this store about an hour before closing time, no one else was in the store. The JERK would not allow me to bring my little old dog inside on a leash, wanted me to leave her in the hot car while I shopped for a replacement collar and leash. Said he already paid for one dog bite. Walked out, would never ever go back there again.
