One of the best places to adopt ever! The staff is extremely friendly, and knows each of the animals very well so they are able to figure out what the best home is for the pet you’re looking for. I’ve adopted two dogs from them and I was happy that they did a thorough check to make sure my home was right for the dogs before I did! They also are always happy to answer questions and provide any resources you need. Volunteering there brings me so much joy, and you are able to see all the amazing things that the staff do to keep these animals happy and healthy before finding their forever homes.

Our family had a terrible experience with this shelter. We intended to bring the dog home with us the day we scheduled an appointment to meet him, but we’re told to wait 2 weeks due to his upper respiratory infection. We filled out the paperwork and paid the $150 fee. The only time window we were offered to pick him up after several unanswered emails was between 5-7am. They canceled the adoption at the 2-week mark and promised to refund our money, which we have not received after several days. Spare yourself and adopt elsewhere.

I do belive the dogs were very well taken care of , but volunteering was a horrible experience, I was so surprised, now not everyone, but a good number of people in charge trated you like u were stupid, I was shocked, I felt so good about donating time, I was caught of guard, the few good people, tried to make up for the rudeness, I have for the last year, 2 days a week donate time at another no kill, everyone is there to help you and we all work together, it is extremely gratifying

Found a kitten on Petfinder at this shelter and had the best experience! Carolyn is the nicest and most caring person I've ever met. She made sure the adoption went super smooth and answered all my questions. Great communication, amazing staff, and the animals are in excellent care.

FOPAS is an amazing shelter. The volunteers are focused on the very best outcomes for the pets in their care. We have adopted three cats, one of whom was a foster for several years before we adopted him. They take such good care of the animals and are dedicated to not only placement, but a good match for everyone. We are moving out of the area soon, and we will very much miss the wonderful volunteers at FOPAS.

The FOPAS shelter is one of the kindest and most caring animal shelters out there. They take the time and care of their animals in order to ensure a fantastic transition to home. I can't thank them enough. They were willing to take three cats that no one else could or would. They were my relative's that passed away and we were struggling to find somewhere for them. The cat facility was beautiful and spotless. The staff was so friendly and helpful. I can't say enough good things about our experience.

What a great organization. Staff was superb they care for the animals they are intrusted and provide continuous support from throughout the animals life should the recipient not be able to continue to provide for the animal. We are quite happy with our new edition to the family. There are a lot of opportunities for joy to be brought home to a caring pet friendly home at Friends of Parkville Animal.

I adopted the most amazing dog from them back in 2009. They spread out the adoption process over the course of a few days, which in my opinion is important to avoid impulse-adoptions. Very professional. True, unlike BIG shelters they don't have regular visiting hours because most of their staff is volunteer based, nonetheless they're doing an amazing job and are very passionate about what they're doing. Till this day the staff recognizes my dog on the street.

Took my 7 year old daughter there for a kitty. After they found out we have a doggie door they would not let us adopt the cat. Mind you we have 2 dogs and another cat at home that manage just fine. I had to ask my daughter who was holding the cat on her lap to leave. We both left in tears. What a heartless adoption experience. Would not recommend this place for anyone with a child. Go to KC pet projects!

I got my BEAUTIFUL cat here and fell in such love with her, I had to get another one. After the run around at other locations, I came back here and I'm so glad I did. Both times they gave me food, bags of toys, a bed! I love both of my cats so much that I'll be getting another from this same location.

They were great, we found our new dog stella on pet finder and she was at parkville animal shelter, we made the appointment to see her and brought her home the same day, the staff were awesome..and stella is doing great..

Got my cat here, he was abused, ran away, and was then rescued by FOPAS. They cared for him pretty well, especially considering how they are over max capacity for cats to care for. The cats are free except for a small medical bill, and I would give 5 stars but they thought my new cat was a girl at first and that was a whole other issue.

The people that work here are AWESOME. I took the dog I got from them back last week so he could have a playdate with an old friend :) If she's still around, I absolutely plan to do it again. Everyone asked how the dog was doing when I brought him for his date, and everyone seems to go way above and beyond.

Very loving staff. Clean. Take blankets and big bags of dog food. Fluffy toys with no plastic eyes. Can sit and play with dog of your choice. We have had two excellent dogs from them.

I will be adopting mt second FOPAS rescue dog in two hours. The scheduled appointment has provided me enough time to prepare my home and family. The staff is open and honest about the personality and health of their dogs and have been a pleasure as I think through the adoption decision. This place does amazing work with rescues and they really care. All the dogs get walked regularly by the volunteers outside every morning and a few times more during the day. It's not just a stack of kennels like some. Amazing.

The dogs are walked at least twice a day and are given the opportunity to interact with other dogs if they get along. The staff and volunteers truly posses a love for the dogs and want to find an honest home for the animals.

very disappointed in this place; applied for adoption of dog several months ago and was denied; we have been excellent pet owners for many years and wanted to rescue a dog since we had lost our cat of 17 yrs; the other dog we had lived 17 yrs; but we were deemed unfit???? and guess what the dog is still there!!!! something is wrong about this.....they are keeping dogs from getting good homes and making $$$$$ so wrong!

Adopted a kitten from them at a PETCO adoption event. The shelter appears to be run by volunteers, so odd hours is understandable. They have been extremely helpful through the process and have continued to help me even after the adoption when I have questions about him or his healthcare needs. I feel most shelters I dealt with previously would have just said "Sorry no our problem", where as FOPAS definitely cares about the continued well being of our new family member.

Do NOT go to this place! And especially do not take a lost/found animal there. They will NOT reunify the animal with its family. Worst place ever, terrible customer service, rude, entitled, belittling staff…. This shelter might as well be a kill shelter with how they withhold animals from their rightful owners. Pathetic and sad.
