Great find if you are visiting or on the road. Bakery is must visit for their apple pie. Also, surrounded by few small shops. Plenty of parking.Great food, sweets and kids menu.I enjoyed their chicken salad pie special with veggie beef soup. The only area they can do better is service. While it was busy for a Friday lunch, waiting 40 min for kids hot dog meal is too much, even if it is served with dinosaur eggs.

Blue Owl is located in historic Kimswick and the town is historic and right along the river. The building is beautiful and the wooden floors are old and beautiful and very crooked. It’s an old building that’s grown with the crowd that flocks there. There is a dozen chairs sitting out front to accommodate those in line. Luckily we arrived in February, at 11 am and there was not a line. Lots of customers but not maxed. When you walk in to the right is an old room of the house converted to a dining room. Very quaint. At the entrance to the room are two doors for restrooms. The one to the right is labeled handicap. That’s because the toilet is high and the room is sufficiently large. The other is a very tiny cove that if you are large in any way don’t go there. A hostess will greet and seat you. There are three dining rooms. The first to the right, a large enclosed patio to the left and a large dining room beyond those to the left which is where we sat. It has a beautiful fireplace, lace curtains, flowers and candles and really sets the mood. On the way to that dining room is the bakery display. The waitress was exceptionally kind and efficient. The ambiance was great and acoustics absorb the sound of diners well. We were able to witness and join in with a young girls happy birthday serenade. All very quaint. So why the prices? The prices are high and the food just doesn’t match. I know prices are high everywhere but wow. I have included the receipt so you could be the judge.I ordered Lorraine Quiche, broccoli soup and fresh fruit. The crust on the quiche was tough. The bottom layer was smoked bacon. I like bacon a lot but didn’t like that. The soup was good. Not exceptional but definitely good. The fruit was cantaloupe, grapes and pineapple (it is February in the Midwest). This cost a little over $17. My husband had a small bowl of dumplings with velvet chicken soup and green beans for the same price. He said the soup was exceptional. The dumplings were real thin with a clean broth which seemed more like chicken noodle soup. That being said my husband loved them and the accompanying roll. Just not what expected. He ordered chocolate cake and I had chocolate pie. The pie was at least a few days old. Pudding was stiff. Crust hard and chewy and not edible. After eating the pudding I ended up with a 1/4 cup of pudding for over $7. This quaint little experience cost us over $90 with tip. I just wouldn’t go back for it. I saw some regulars so many would and we Mia have ordered the wrong thing. I heard the chicken was great. I was trying to eat light because I was in my way to Super Bowl party. My husband put it well when he said it just wasn’t worth it

Parking was a little crazy on a Saturday but we were able to find a spot in the nice large lot across the street. It was a warmer day but we sat outside. They have a great deck/patio with fans. The menu had plenty of great options but wanted to save room for dessert so went with the egg salad sandwich. It was tasty! It was served with a side of chips and they easily swapped soup for cottage cheese. The dessert menu was equally hard to choose from with so many tasty options. I went with the apple crumb pie. It came out warmed slightly which was perfect. Only regret- not getting a scoop of ice cream. The carrot cake was great too.Would definitely return! Glad we finally went for a drive to give it a try. You should too!Wheelchair accessibility: Ramp available

Here is the scoop: I have eaten here plenty of times in the past they are a breakfast/lunch place (they close at 3). I just swung in today to get a couple pieces of pie to go as Xmas gifts.Be warned, a piece of pie cost me $9.00 a piece (update - read the last paragraph). If you are going to go inside and eat you need to get there early because they do get packed. The sun porch has glass installed and is quite warm. Warm enough that you can comfortably eat outside with just a sweatshirt or long sleeve t shirt. They have some crazy good white chicken chilli 😃, but if you can going to get a peice pie have an organ or extra appendage you can sell off 😥.I was their yesterday and had the turkey melt, it was super loaded with salt almost unfit to eat. I choked down 3/4's of it and left hungry. I wouldn't normally complain because it might had been an off day for whomever was cooking but for $15.95 they need to do better.I have noticed the price of their pies has gone up, again - and the pieces have gotten smaller.🤔😡

Awesome historic restaurant with dozens of shops, venues, and a winery within walking distance. I've been here more than a dozen times and it never disappoints. Old fashioned country style atmosphere and food. The breakfast menu is great. Soups are amazing. They have a trio deal where you can mix and match soups, salads, sandwiches, quiche, and desserts. I love the quiche and all of their pie options. The mile high apple pie is what they're famous for, but they have fried pies, cakes, and various other items. Excellent place for a family meal.

Update November 2023:Took little brother to Kimmswick for lunch and Christmas shopping. It was a gorgeous day, and as always, the food was delicious to boot. Bought some baked goodies, too, after breakfast to take home.Never have been able to buy one of the mile high apple pies, but today they had miniature Carmel Pecan apple pies. Gotta see the pictures. Little brother likes their homemade turtlesthat come in dark or milk chocolate, soon course2 for him one for me. Then, I noticed they had a few fried pies, so yes, I bought 2 of them. Overall a great breakfast as we always get the country fried steak, with eggs, fried potatoes, and their homemade biscuits with apple butter or strawberry jam.Nice to get away from the city along with going shopping for Christmas presents.Shout out to Starr, our waitress, on great service. If you want pies, this is the place & not very expensive for homemade pies vs. store bought.Support your local business owned by women.Very friendly staff and nice to all customers along with interacting with more personal service than normal chain restaurants.Breakfast was really scumptous as we had the steak & eggs along with half order sausage gravy & biscuit, fried potatoes like I made at home were a surprise. Then, the pancake was crunchy on the outside and soft, along with thick made for a yummy craving satisfied.Definitely need to go back, most expensive breakfast for us.Let me explain there were Cherry hand pies, homemade turtle candy, dark & milk chocolate, German chocolate pies, slice of turtle cake, and last slice Gooey Butter Pie.Went for breakfast today, and it was so delicious and I ate everything, but my biscuit. The Steak and Eggs so was great from the tender delicious steak, the home fried potatoes, and two eggs over easy. Now desserts this time was a little less desirable, sorry.Raspberry turnovers were small, but that was okay. I wanted to try them. While the pastry was flaky, the disappointment was no Raspberry filling at all just a dab.Next, I thought I would try the Butterscotch Pecan Pie sounded good, again disappointed. There were lots of pecans on top, but the filling I thought would be soft it was hard as a rock.Parking: Handicap spots available

With THE BLUE OWL YOU CAN NEVER GO WRONG WITH DESSERT, but when you eat a meal there it sadly shows Mary is retired. The food is DEFINITELY dropped a notch or two which is sad BECAUSE I LOVED their fried chicken and my wife the chicken salad and now the portions have shrunk and the taste is rather bland. Will go back for dessert but if I am hungry for a meal will eat elsewhere on our way there!

First thing is make a reservation. The blue owl had a large variety of home cooked meals and dessert. Some of the food items surprised me; like seeing a quiche on the menu. They had a few of their own dishes like baked chicken salad in a pie crust with cheese. Everyone can find something to eat there, and if you get a salad try the house dressing. Service was pretty dang good. Dont forget to follow me i review places all the time.

The Blue Owl is under new ownership, and frankly, it has lost its charm and uniqueness. We and others go there for the atmosphere. The iconic blue aprons are gone. Now it's a boring polo shirt like any other unoriginal chain restaurant. The decorations have always been over-the-top and absolutely beautiful! We take yearly pictures there and have for more than 25 years. This year, all I could find as a backdrop was a wall hanging that just wasn't that great. (Below this year's picture taken a week ago, and a few pictures from previous years.)The pie crust has always been light and crispy. This time, I was barely able to cut it with a knife. We drive a long way to have an experience, but if this is it, then I can save my money for gas and go to a restaurant closer to home. Overall, I was just sad.Wheelchair accessibility: Yes, it has a ramp, but other than that, it might be difficult to maneuver inside the restaurant in a wheelchair.

Stopped by this restaurant for breakfast while visiting from Florida. There aren’t many restaurants in this area and I was a bit hesitant to try this one. We pulled into the parking lot with a line of almost 20 people waiting for the restaurant to open. The staff was very inviting and our family of 6 was seated immediately. We placed breakfast order of pancakes, biscuits and gravy, French toast, country fried steak and eggs and bacon. Freshly baked cinnamon rolls with caramel pecan topping was brought to our table giving us a chance to sample the delicious confection. I am so glad I made the decision to patron this place. If you get a chance to visit Kimmswick, Missouri or the surrounding area, do yourself a favor and go have breakfast at the Blue Owl. You will not be disappointed! They also serve lunch, dinner, and have a bakery.

We drove a couple hours out here to get a slice of the famous Levee High Caramel Apple Pie. Absolutely worth it! Warm and delicious, the apples remain firm and aromatically seasoned with cinnamon and cloves. The crust was a lovely golden brown, buttery, and flaky. The caramel is sticky and chewy and makes a resilient dome. The gooey butter cheesecake is so rich and firm, very decadent. Definitely a good home baked style. My friend loved her food. Chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and a bacon gravy that reminded her of her grandmother’s. The ham and green beans were savory and flavorful. The open face roast beef is listed as a signature dish. I found the gravy clumpy and gelatinous, as if reheated in a microwave. The roast beef was tender but bland. It was reminiscent of cafeteria food.I hear that Sunday is the day to go for the specials. I’ll be back for another try and another pie. I bought three to take home!

I went with my family for the first time today. There was an hour wait, and that’s pretty normal for a weekend there. I got the Buffalo chicken sandwich with vegetable beef soup and the soup was to die for. My sister got the chicken sandwich and loved that too. The tall apple pie didn’t have much flavor at all. I was very underwhelmed. I enjoy more crust with my apple pie. Our waitress, Melanie, forgot the ice cream with the pie too. She was sassy the entire time for our small requests. It seemed like she was extremely inconvenienced

The Blue Owl made and delivered cakes for our wedding. We had an amazing experience with them. The tasting box was so fun, as we tasted each and every type of cake, frosting, and dessert that we wished to try.Laura Costello was amazing to communicate with. She was timely and informative, and she really helped us determine how much we needed for our guest count. Because the flavors were SO good, we went with several littler cakes and then a small tier cake. The guests LOVED the cake. The carrot and almond cake was particularly a huge hit! We did donut holes for guests to grab, and 200 of them were gone in the blink of an eye.Delivery and set up were seamless. The Blue Owl sent someone to deliver and set the cakes up about mid afternoon before our ceremony. We could not say enough good things about the service and delicious goods that they provided!

Love love loved this place! We will definitely be going back. Mary was a delight, and so were the rest of her employees! They have a gluten free menu and were sure to double check everything I ordered. I had the Lunch Trio and was able to substitute the croissant with gluten free bread. I also had the strawberry salad which is now my absolute favorite salad. I don't usually prefer a lot of dressing on my salad but the poppy seed dressing was so good that I wanted more! And of course, don't forget the dessert!

We have been coming to The Blue Owl for about 20 years during the Christmas weekend for the Christmas experience. The first thing we noticed was they didn't have all the regular Christmas decor up. There was no Christmas music playing either. The food was not their stellar 5 star experience we had enjoyed in the past. The service was outstanding, but the food was not. We understand that places are having to raise prices to cover cost, but the food just wasn't worth what we paid. Our tradition ends this year with our beloved Blue Owl. Mary you are missed. 😞

I went here on Saturday before St.Patty's day. Kimmswick was bustling with people shopping at the cute little stores. We came for lunch, we had about a 30 minute wait for 2 people. At 12:20p - not a bad wait in my opinion. Hostess and all staff were very pleasant and helpful. Our waitress was awesome, she was training someone but that didn't take away from the experience. We ordered the reuben with a strawberry side salad and the chicken fried steak with steak fries and mashed potatoes. The reuben was good, but unfortunately not the best I've had. But it wasn't bad. Strawberry side salad was amazing. Chicken fried steak was the best I've ever tasted. Its not something prepackaged. So no weird flavor or breading. The mashed potatoes were really good, as well. Pretty sure they make real mashed potatoes and not boxed. Drinks stayed full, and server was attentive. We also got the snickers cream pie - very good, very rich, didn't taste like snickers to us - but it was still really good and we would get it again! Lastly, we got a slice of the caramel apple mile high pie - warmed and with ice cream (10/10 recommend and would come back just for this dessert!) It did not disappoint!!! Soooo good! 10/10 would recommend this restaurant and will be coming back to try more goodies!!!
