We had the best experience with Elkhound Ranch Kennels! Our dogs came home happy and tired (in a good way!). The staff was incredibly friendly and worked with our vet to get all of the necessary immunization records. We have boarded our pups here before, and this place is always our first call when we plan on going out of town. The service, care, and communication is exceptional. We'll definitely be using them again for future trips.

We love this place! We are treated like family every time we visit. We attend daycare often and have boarded here as well. My boy is a big 150lb goofy Newfoundland and they love him even though he is A LOT to love. They know he is prone to hot spots so they keep a fan on him when he gets wet. They always get him in for a bath even if it’s on short notice. They care for all of the dogs as if they were their own. I highly recommend them to anyone!!!

We were very pleased with the care and attention given during our pet's long boarding time. We definitely appreciated being able to text about our concerns and getting timely responses from the staff at Elkhound. The contacts made with the staff members during the course of making the reservation, the actual boarding time and the drop off/pick up times, we were very impressed how helpful, considerate and professional they have been during this first-time experience in boarding our pet.

We originally chose Elkhound because other kennels around Lawrence and the Kansas City area wouldn't accept our aggressive German Shepherd/Akita mix. We knew our pet, Crash, would be safe at Elkhound but didn't expect him to let their staff touch him. We're happy to report Elkhound was able to join Crash's small circle of friends! We're thrilled things went so well while we traveled over the holidays and plan to use Elkhound again soon.

Very impressed!I booked my Dog Riley for the 2 week board and train program. I felt that the communication between the owner and office staff was very professional and helped put my anxiety to rest. Now that Riley is home with me he listens to commands better then before. I was given a packet of information and a video of how they train so we can continue to work on his training at home. Just all around a great experience and would recommend this place to anyone considering having their dog professionally trained : )

They did a fantastic job with our 9 month old Rottweiler. She is a handful and that is why we took her to Elk Hound. We started with daycare and decided to do the board and train. They took their time with her and made sure we were comfortable with the training before we came home. The first night at home was better than any prior to training. We know that we will have to stay consistent with her but with their support we feel more confident than ever with our dog. Thank you to the wonderful trainers and staff!

This is an amazing place! I have a 10 year old pit bull who we rescued about 8 years ago. After my husband passed she became more protective. She doesn’t like people or other dogs. This place took such great care of her! The general manager ( I forgot his name) was also so amazing! He went back to get her and she let him! They trimmed her nails and gave her a bath! These are things the vet can’t even do! I highly recommend this place! The entire staff and facility are an absolute blessing.

Kennel provides excellent care for my dog. I don’t have to worry at all when I go out of town. He loves to go and is well taken care of. Great staff that give 💯 % to care for all the furry friends. Multiple family members use them for the same reason. Very affordable as well.

We had our puppy in a two week board and train while we were out of town, and Bill did a phenomenal job! When we came to pick him up, he spent some time with us going over the training, and showing us how to handle and work on it once we got home. Highly recommend, we will be back!

Left our pup Maui here while we went on vacation (to Maui ironically 🤣) they took great care of him while keeping him stimulated and teaching him some basic commands that we've been able to repeat at home! Definitely recommended!

Absolutely love Kristen and the team. My dog is a very hyper, never been socialized pit rescue. He spent a total of 5 weeks at The Ranch and came out a completely different dog. He’s still got some progress to go, but he knows his manners and how to interact with dogs now. The Ranch even let me bring my other staffy mix Up to the ranch to meet Gino before I took him home. That introduction made all the difference in the world. And Paco was even able to come up for daycare and be socialized with Gino over multiple days. The Ranch went above and beyond to help me and Gino and Paco. I am eternally thankful.

Queen spent 3days with Elkhound Ranch Kennels and she was as happy and healthy when I picked her up as when I dropped her off. I have had other dogs in the past boarded elsewhere in Kansas City and they would come home showing weight loss, excessive shedding and miffed at me, seemed depressed and afraid to get back in the car after getting home. But not Queen after her stay. She's ready to jump in the truck and go back. She was full of energy, looks great, smells like a dog and not a barn yard. Thank you all for taking such good care of Queen.

I went in for a tour just to learn more about the boarding industry, and I was very impressed by this facility! It is kept clean with daily cleanings, and the mangers were extremely welcoming and helpful. I love that this facility has mostly indoor/outdoor runs and lots of outside space for the dogs that stay here. It seems like they are constantly working to improve the facility and really care about the animals that come through it. They also have a leash free dog park in the front yard that is open to the public. Thank you for the tour!

Changing my review: I will never bring my dog back here. Far too many bad stories including my dog was apparently left in various kennels all day with no yard time. I knew something was different when she cried & didn't want to go back when she use to love it. The staff she use to love all quit & I think being investigated speaks for itself.Previous review:I trust the staff here & my dog loves going to play for the day. She's just as happy when I drop her off as when I pick her up so I know she is well taken care of. Staff are always friendly, I can tell they truly care. Also, Lea is amazing for training! She knows dogs and how to work with them better than any other trainer I've talked with before.

I've been so pleased with taking Scout to Elkhound Ranch Kennels. They have earned my loyalty!After an alleged incident with an acquaintance watching our dog we no longer felt comfortable having someone come to our home. The staff at Elkhound Ranch are experienced with dogs like mine, who is nervous of strangers and new situations. He tolerated his first weekend stay well, so we booked another. I was so pleased to see him HAPPY when I picked him up after our second stay. They were even able to give him a bath and a cute bandana.I was also very impressed by how knowledgeable all the staff is. I've interacted with 6 different people at the kennels and they were all clearly comfortable working with dogs of different demeanors. I felt very comfortable knowing that Scout would not be put in a bad situation for anyone. I already have his next stay booked!

We brought our Golden doodle up for 2 days while we were out of town. Purchased him a suite.When arriving to pick him up the woman at the counter informed me that Emmett seemed to be limping a little due to the gravel in the back.(Keeping in mind that he was outside when I picked him up)I took him home and watched him slowly getting around and whimpering.I laid him down and looked at his paws to see that he has what was confirmed by our vet to be burns from either chemicals or heat of pavement.(He was leaning more to chemical)When it was brought to their attention they claimed that some dogs have issues with the gravel outside. (Which may be true)We responded with what our vet has informed us and they denied that this was the issue. 🙄My issue with the employees and establishment is that she knowingly allowed my pet to continue on outside with his limping and pain rather than cleaning the area and treating it properly.If it was in fact the gravel that caused the issue then they were completely neglectful and honestly abusive toward my dog during his visit.We asked on the phone if they have any intentions of changing their cleaning products (since it's likely a chemical burn) and she informed that they would not.They also denied any assistance with vet bill or reimbursement for his visit.Basically they didn't care at all.Save your pet from the pain they will endure after boarding here.

My dog is old. She struggles to hop into the car on her own. I said, Puppy Resort and she ran down stairs and jumped into our minivan on the first try. Then, climbed up on a seat so she could see where I was going.

Just got my pup back from the kennels. He stayed 2 nights and the staff was great with him. He’s a 2 year old Dutch shepherd/Belgian Malinois and is NOT easy for anyone but me to handle. I was extremely anxious to leave him with anyone (this is the first time he’s stayed away from me with anyone other than a Tom Rose certified trainer of working dogs) and the staff handled him with great care. It was a difficult experience for the dog but they made it the best it could be. Thank you!

Update:: Daisy has continued to thrive since her training with Heidi and Kevin! Daisy has grown so much this year, that we decided to get her a little brother!!!Which was 100% out of the question when we began this journey! As of April of 2020. Heidi and Kevin are no longer training with Elk Hound. But, they can be found on Facebook at More Dog Than Human!!7 months ago we were at a loss for what to do with our reactive 1 year old pitty daisy. Everything we tried was failing her. So, we decided as a last resort we would try Elkhound’s training program. We are So glad we did! Today we took Daisy to the vet and to Starbucks. LolShe was a completely DIFFERENT girl. She followed all of her commands for us and the vets office. My husband and I couldn’t be more pleased. We are so thankful!We highly recommend their program!Thank you Elkhound!!

The best place! I’ve been taking my 90-lb dog here for a year or so and the staff is friendly, the kennels with a run are spacious and it’s a great value. I tried taking my dog to a kennel closer to my house one time, but that facility was keeping her in a closet and my dog was not having it. Elkhound came and got her while I was out of town, and I’m forever thankful. I’ll never take her anywhere else again. Thank you so much!
