We adopted an older dog 1 year ago. She had been there a couple months but per my vet she is healthy. The workers take great care of the animals in their care. They can only do as good as they can with the resources they have. We donate wet and dry dog and cat food and cat litter to try and help. I’d adopt from here again!

I volunteered my time here for a little bit a couple of years ago. I was paying $40 for an Uber one way to help this organization. The conditions were disgusting. There are 4-5 dogs to a kennel with very little room for them to move. They all looked malnourished and neglected. A puppy not even 4 months of age died while I was there helping and they didn’t investigate why he passed away. He had no visible markings on him, instead of sending him off to a vets office to get checked out they went out and buried him in the back. The front staff girls were horrible to me and acted as if they were better than everyone. There were two kennel staff who were very kind to me and the only ones who were appreciative of me. They showed me what they needed help with and let me pet a few dogs and see the cats. They were the only good part about my experience volunteering for them. I met the owner once and it wasn’t a pleasant experience. She questioned me as to why I was there helping. She got very upset with me when I checked my phone to see if the car that had pulled up was my Uber because I didn’t want to pay $10 extra waiting for 5 minutes while I had to sit there and let her belittle me. After my experience with her, I didn’t return. My friend adopted her dog from them after two weeks they came and took her dog from her while she was in the process of registering him as her service dog, they took his harness and everything that she had spent her own money on and I also adopted a cat from them that passed away a month after I adopted him. This organization is disgusting and it really should be shut down, the dogs need to be rescued from this so called “rescue”. I hope the department of agriculture looks more in depth into this one, there are so many animals here being neglected.

Hung up on me. Save your time and energy, go elsewhere. If they are as bad to their animals as they are to the humans looking to adopt then I wouldn’t be surprised if they came out of there showing signs of abuse or neglect. Thank goodness they were SO AWFUL that I went on down the road to Joplin Humane Society and that’s where I met my Hurley baby(pictured below). I recommend go to Faithful Friends, Huckleberry Rescue, Carthage or Joplin Humane Society to adopt, these folks don’t deserve your business with the lack of customer service I received. Adopt from someone that loves animals because that shows in the animals that leave the shelters. Shame on GOLDEN PAW! I’d give you 0 stars if I could!

My parents had taken their 2 standard poodles to this place. They are babies 10 and 5 months old healthy as can be!!! When she picked up the poodles today 6/14/23 the older one could barely walk infection all in his eyes dehydrated and in bad shape! Will need to go to vet. Please DO NOT take your dogs here for Boarding. You will regret this! There will be hell to pay!!!!! Take a look before and after he won’t even move looks so skinny I don’t even think they fed him😩😩 these people are in trouble 👿

I got my sweet pug Otis here 4 years ago. Otis has dealt with severe anxiety and shows many harsh signs of prior abuse and neglect. He was a puppy when I got him, a breeder throw out as soon as he was born. He spent all time leading up to my adoption at this rescue. Please read: I asked to use the bathroom and they said they generally don’t let people back. I kindly told them I had just driven from Arkansas and was going to pee my pants. They reluctantly let me back. There I saw all the dogs they had. But they were stacked on top of each other on every single side, no sides of the cage were open to air just more dogs back to back to back. The area was about 300-400 square feet and was used as an administrative office as well. All dogs looked sick and distressed. I tried to report them when I got Otis out of there but I see they’re still running.

We adopted Dexter, who we renamed Chief. He has been absolutely great. Potty trained. Very protective. Hes just the sweetest boy who might be a tad spoiled!!!! He doesn't bark but his growl is intimidating!!! We love him!! ❤️

First of all this place should be shut down! The lady working there is so rude I wanted to walk out before ever speaking a word. I was there to look at the cats, and she told me the one I wanted had a deposit already. So I said ok can I see the others? She had a younger girl take us to the cat room. I about wanted to puke from the smell. The poos cats look so sad. Not one of them was playing or being active. She then proceeded to tell me the black cat in the cage had to stay in the cage because he was a bully and had HIV wasn’t aware cats could get it, learned something new there. The other one I was interested in was so skinny and dirty I didn’t even want to hold it. So we left and she asked if I wanted to see dogs, sure! Wish I would have never walked down the sidewalk. Some of them dogs look so unhealthy and mistreated. I don’t know how this place is open and I am being 100% serious. Someone really needs to save the animals there, because from what I seen there it’s not a good place at all!!!!

I never leave reviews but after this entire experience I had to.About two months ago my husband adopted a dog from here. The dog herself was about $500- expensive for a rescue dog yes- but we both absolutely fell in love with this pup.He drove three hours to go get her. When he arrived, they notified him that she had just been spayed and may be off because of the anesthesia. It was odd we were not notified before but no biggie. The entire car ride home the dog threw up 23 times. Very little food, mostly bile. We figured it may be because of anesthesia or the bumpy ride. After arriving home after two hours the dog continued to throw up. She would sip water then throw it up immediately. She couldn’t get any food down. We also noticed her breathing was raspy and gurgly. We made an emergency vet appointment and took her in after being home only a couple of hours. On the way to the vet, I called Golden Paw to explain the situation- to which they told me the entire litter threw up all the time because they were nervous. First- this was never disclosed- Second- nervous? This dog could not even get water down! After meeting with the vet, we found she was extremely malnourished. Due to recent surgery and with her being so new, they gave us anti nausea medication as well as a shot to help her not throw up.This medication was not enough though, she continued throwing up anything she ate or drank- and throwing up even when she did not eat or drink. We again took the dog to the vet. This time, since issues persisted they ran multiple tests. Turns out this dog had severe pneumonia that had likely been ongoing as her lung growth seemed to be entirely stunted. After more results came back, we also found out she had Giardia. It had been disclosed that there were both other animals as well as children in the home- this sickness could have spread and injured them as well. These diagnoses came only after a couple of days of her being at our home. She received treatment for both of these, we also had to medicate the other dog to avoid the Giardia spreading.Due to her being so malnourished, we hand make this pups food every day- fresh. Multiple medications every single day, basically 24/7 care.Even after mostly resolving the pneumonia and giardia, we continued taking the dog to the vet almost weekly for multiple reasons. Fatigue, throwing up, blood in throw up. The vet was highly concerned and wanted to run even more tests now realizing that these issues were not just stunted growth or left over stuff from the pneumonia. After multiple x rays we found that the dog had severe megaesophagus. This required us to feed the dog vertically, completely have an altered diet, as well as frequent medical monitoring. This is the reason why she was not gaining weight, why she has been throwing up. The vet even thinks there are far more issues that we are yet to find.A puppy with megaesophogus could die within months if left untreated. Now, I understand that dogs may get sick within a rescue. I understand that adopting a dog poses that risk and medical responsibility ( which we have no issue undertaking at all) but the complete and utter negligence to see clear signs of being sick (throwing up, malnutrition) being totally ignored is completely unacceptable. Upon adoption, we were told the dog had just been cleared by a doctor the day before. Clearly, no thorough check was done on this dog. Anyone who sees a malnourished dog who is unable to eat- let alone professionals working for a “rescue”- would be able to see further tests needed to be done. There was no disclosure of any health problems when we left with the dog- we were told she was happy and healthy. If Golden Paw is willing to sell a dog who is malnourished and actively sick I can only imagine what condition some of the pups are in behind closed doors. My heart breaks for this situation as we avidly love supporting rescues- but i cannot say a single good thing about this place other than it’s given us the sweetest pup. this is blatant neglect.

Golden Paws is the best place to go for any animal. I got a beautiful dog from there a few years back and he was the best thing to come into my life, but recently something happened at the apartment complex where I live that forced me to get rid of him. Even though he was an emotional support dog, with paperwork, they still made me get rid of him, so after trying to find him a new home I finally called Golden Paws and they said I could bring him back. They are going to find him a new home with a fenced yard and someone who will love him like I did. If anyone is interested in him and has a fenced yard, call Golden Paws and ask about Zoey. You won't regret it.

Went in to look at cats. The cat house smelled so bad. Walked in and saw a beautiful Persian cat that we fell in love with and were told “its on hold for the owner, it reminds her of one of her old cats”. She would not even called and ask the owner if she would be willing to adopt the cat.

The age of the dog was misrepresented. They said 7m, their vet said 9m, our vet is positive he is 1.5 years old. With the tartar on the back teeth shown to me, I today my vet. I love the dog dearly, though.

Was my first time there and I adopted my first rescue dog. So glad I made that choice this time. I was very pleased with everything for my first time experience. I just can not say enough about this place. If you want to get a dog or even a cat please consider Golden Paw and give a loving pet a home by adopting. Keep up the great job your doing Golden Paw.

I had the pleasure of adopting my amazing pup from this wonderful rescue! The staff here is incredible friendly! The adoption fee included her getting spayed, first round of shots, and dewormer. When we came back for her final round of shots the whole staff was excited to see her! Great place and I highly suggest if you're looking into adding a new family member to contact this amazing people!

What a great little place. The staff was friendly and the care of the animals is top notch!! We adopted a little dog and they made sure he left with everything her would need! He was neutered, vaxed, dewormed, flea treated. We opted for a microchip and they offered to bathe him before we left. We will Definitely be adopting from here again.

We adopted our sweet boy 2 days before Christmas. Unfortunately, he came home with a respiratory infection, dirty ears and eyes. I still support Golden Paw because they are a no kill shelter and the staff are really sweet and make the experience easy and quick.

We adopted a sick cat from them. After a month and a half of weekly vet visits, and a blood transfusion, he passed away. We only had him 14 months. Our vet said he likely got sick at the shelter. He was able to beat it once, but the disease came back worse the second time and our fur baby didn't make it. I don't know how this place is still open. They are so problematic and don't care about their cats. The dogs make them the most money so they advertise them more and then charge up to $750 for a dog.

Golden Paws is the true deal. This is NOT the "New Rescue, Out collecting donations" than buying $2000. Dogs at the auctions. These people care! They survive off true local Donations! PLEASE DONATE TO GOLDEN PAW IN JOPLIN! They truly care and take what they do seriously in placing their Rescues in good homes. They don't ask really for help. They work hard to get donations. Unlike so many scam Rescues in this Country! Joplin Missouri has a real hard working Rescue. Please Support Them. Give a gift of Love to Golden Paws today.

In 2020 we were looking for a dog to foster while my wife was furloughed. Instead we found our forever furkid in Ziggy. They were incredibly helpful and always made sure we could spend time with him until it was time to come home. A great shelter to work with if you are looking for a rescue pet.

Do better, Golden Paw! $800 to adopt a dog? Reason, "the owner likes yorkies." So the owner likes them so much she is going to make the fee so high that the dog sits in a shelter forever? We did adopt one. Got a 7 year old chihuahua mix that only has 3 teeth. $250 for him. Still way to high, but I couldn't let him stay there any longer. Was told his cough was because he barks too much. NOT! He is sick and now I'm paying for a vet visit. I'm angry and disappointed.

I love Golden Paw! I went there for my first time as I was looking for an animal. And they seemed so caring about all of them. All of the animals seemed so loved, even the ones that were hard to love. They took the time to walk me through and she explained all of their personalities and was honest with me about all of them! Definitely would recommend to adopt from here!!

My dog got loose on 6-9-21. A friend of mine helped me with posting that he was missing.I was beside myself with grief.Yesterday 6-10-21 she told me that he was found by someone and taken to Golden Paw.( which is the place I adopted him from last June).I was so relieved that I immediately got in my car to get there. When I arrived at Golden Paws, all I wanted was to see my baby Buttercup.I was asked if I had ownership papers.I explained that I recently moved and they were somewhere packed up at my new home.I had pictures of him on my phone, I told them the color of his collar. I could hear him barking on the other side of the door because he heard my voice. The girl with the long dark hair was the rudest person to me. I told her I adopted him there so surely they could look at the adoption records.Yes they found where I adopted a dog but they did not even have a picture of the dog I adopted yet was telling me if I couldn’t prove he was mine that I was not getting him.I was beyond upset. I had just spent over 24 hours looking for my dog, no sleep and filled with grief. You post his picture that he’s been found, I immediately come, I show you pictures of him on my phone, I describe his collar, even tell you he was groomed and had a strip on his back where the hair is shorter than the rest, he is going crazy barking because he heard my voice out there and you still give me a hard time.Zero compassion.Thank god for my vet office in Neosho for saving the day. My baby got to come home with me.This is not a situation I will forget anytime soon.I understand that everyone has a job to do but the way I was treated yesterday was wrong. In this industry you not only deal with animals but you also deal with families.I’m not one to write bad reviews on anyone but yesterday was one of the worst experiences of my life dealing with a persons customer service skills.
