I have only been here 1 time. It was about 8-9 years ago. But my dog was the only black dog in there. I fell in love instantly! I got him at supposedly 6 months old. He has been the best thing that had ever happened to me. He was the easiest dog ever! Only had 2 accidents and never did that again and has only chewed up 1 thing that didn’t belong to him his whole life. He is so well mannered and was to easy to teach basic OB! I really wish there was a way to connect with the shelter to try and get more pictures from when he was there of him!

My dog was hit and killed over the weekend. I was told I had 5 business days to make arrangements for his body. I do so 2 business days later and they said “that dog has already been disposed of”…huh?! How is that a thing. Definitely made it worse for a grieving family who wanted to cremate their family member and instead got told “he was disposed off”

About 3 or 4 months ago I took a sweet female dog to this place. I checked back and encouraged them to let me know if she was available for adoption. That was the last time I heard from them. I sent 2 emails. I'm fearful they just euthanized her?

The workers were really 🙂 cr and helpful my dogs were well taken care of the staff were very helpful in replacing ng collars and harness at no charge and leashes I thank all the staff for helping my kids

I tried to give them a kitten i had found in the woods and they were rude and refused to let me explain. The old, fat, bald dude can screw himself. he was disrespectful and obviously uncaring of a stray kitten. I’m currently having to foster her, despite not having the right money or equipment. screw this place.

I'll explain why I love this place!!! I had a great Dog for 3 years until he died back in 2017. Sargeant taught me more than anything I could ever teach him. Not really ever having experienced what people call " unconditional love" Sargeant was happy every day i was lucky to be his "pet human". Having a tough outer skin and a tougher heart, when he died I understood all to well what that love was all about!! It affected me so deeply I cried every time I would have to explain his passing. Never experiencing loss like that, and not wanting to feel the pain of losing that again. I was determined to not to ever hurt like that again so I gave up on a pet of any kind. Until I walked into the Jefferson city animal shelter.( just to look). Well they had only 1 young dog available, when I saw "rudy" with a cone around his head, I stuck my hand in the small cage and he put his head inside my palm, Choked up and holding back a flood of emotions I walked to the officer at the desk and asked "how much" for Rudy. He said $100.00 bucks. Having lost my job because of covid 19, I knew it was going to hurt to use the little cash i had but I was not going to just walk away and leave him. So I borrowed the cash. And the next day like a child waiting for the night to pass so Santa would come, I took out enough money to get a 50lb bag of gravy train. And i brought "Rudy" home. We walked from the shelter to Marshall street. Before I reached my apartment, I changed his name to honor the only one who really taught me that unconditional love is something that comes from a place inside each and every creature that is alive, and once you feel it, you'll never look at love the same way ever again. you may see me and "Sarge" walking downtown as i teach him the same way I did Sargeant. It's pretty cool to know how much Sargent taught me. Sarge and I are a perfect fit, like Sargent before him, I'm proud to be the human he picked to be his friend when he put his head in the palm of my hand!!! At that brief moment i understood what Sargent TAUGHT me and it flooded my entire being,.. it was then for the first time in my life I understood "unconditional love"

They gave me 6 days to claim both of my dogs. Their policy says they will hold the dog for 10 days. Long story short they killed my harmless pit bull because he was barking at dogs through a kennel. I demand some of there policies change. Yes my dog was very toned and scary looking but has not once ever harmed another animal! I will have my day in court win or lose. My only question is when you bring in both dogs together they were not being aggressive, but 5 days of a dog with very little interaction with other dogs other than our German Shepard and barks and growls a few times. I take responsibility of my dogs getting loose even though stuff happens but will you take responsibility in wrongly euthanizing a harmless dog! I can only imagine how many dogs you guys kill due to them barking at other animals and not harming one of your staff.

A previous nursing home resident who got senior housing went there and paid $100 which we help her get through donation for a dog. The pic on the website was not a pitbull, but the dog they brought out after she paid was. She explained that she cannot have a pitbull in senior housing and that she would like another dog or her money back, but she was told that they couldn't do either. They said the manager was not there and they kept the dog and her money. That was a Friday on Monday she called the manager and explained the situation and he said he couldn't help her. This is a horrible place for doing that to anyone much less a senior who was left devastated. I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT!!!

They need help, as they don't have the staff to give the dogs exercise at all, much less the daily basis they need. Nice facility. Friendly staff. We brought our last baby home from here.

We found a wonderful dog and she was fully good to go. Shots, fixed, flea, and heartworm medicine. The staff was friendly and let us play with her to make sure she was the dog we wanted.

I went in to just play with some of the dogs here let them spread their legs and I fell hard for the shy little boy. Ollie is now the most playful loving boy. He's living his best life by my son's side and I wouldn't have it any other way. Thank you for giving us a part of our family we didn't even know was missing. You guys were so sweet to him and in turn he was able to trust us when you handed him over.

The shelter staff, adoption rules and animal accommodations are first-rate. My experience there was phenominal. I adopted a young-adult feline named Corbin, and we were getting along fabulously by day two at home. Amazing kitty! (If you can make a donation there, please do!)

The shelter was so clean. The only smells were those of cleaning solutions. The animals were all clean and very well cared for. The staff was friendly and so welcoming. Definitely recommend for your next pet.

Nice shelter. Kennels were cleaned. Animals were fed and socialized . You can tell they have volunteers to help play and walk the animals. They all seemed happy and in good condition. All the shots are done, spay/neuter, fleas, heart worm, the works. It didn't stink inside and was clean. Decent information on each animal as best as they can.

Clean Cages, fresh water, great animals. Got two cats from here, they acted well in the shelter, but after two months they were demons. I think they just misses their home. This place is amazing.

There wasn't many animals when we visited but that's a good thing! Staff very friendly! We love visiting the shelters! This giant fat kitty was the sweetest and made our visit worthwhile!

When I walked in, I was greeted by two gentlemen at the front desk. Very polite and always had a smile on their faces. The place was very clean and had a great vibe. I really liked the establishment and definitely would recommend it to anyone who is looking to adopt a dog or cat.

Adopted nugget at 8 weeks old.Had her for 15 years.she was the joy of my life.Right before Thanksgiving 2021. She had to cross the 🌈 bridge. She was a wonderful companion and very intelligent, lots of fun and joy. Anyone,that's undecided about getting a 🐶 go for it. You won't regret your decision. It will become the joy of your life.

So my morning went from "you know I think we can consider getting a dog" to two puppies less than 3 hours later. It was an easy and great experience adopting from the JC animal shelter. We made an appointment to visit and see the animals needing a home over the phone. We just happened to run across a litter of pups when we got there. One of three in the kennel we looked at had been adopted already. So we adopted the other two. They have brought a lot of joy to our house.

This used to be a great place to pet some animals and cheer up after a rough day, but now it’s open by appointment only. It’s really gone downhill since the police department took over, and it’s not nearly as welcoming as it used to be.

I would highly recommend Jefferson City Animal Shelter to those looking for a good dog or cat to give a new home. We have adopted all of our cats from this shelter, and they were all healthy and happy since day one. Cages are kept clean, water and food for the animals is always stocked.

I have a loyal girl from the shelter, great personality and great dog. I've been multiple times just to visit too, they take great care of the animals and amazing staff. Only complaint is they aren't great at guessing the breed of animals lol but overall great place to get a low cost companion.
