We got the "pandemic puppy" a border collie of course. Dougal was very reactive dog...people, anything on wheels, sewer lids etc. We tried several other training options....then we found TRS. From the moment of the consultation to where we are now....everyone was truly professional, never pretended that Dougal wasn't a bit of a project. Michael is the one who worked with Dougal. The best thing other than how well Dougal is doing now is was the entire staff never tried to "upsell" The other big thing they did was not just train Dougal but trained my hubby and me. I've had dogs for 30 plus years, puppies or resucues....but learned quickly a lot of Dougal's short comings were really due to Hubby and me not knowing the best way to train him.We had had a really bad experience with a trainer in IL...TRS was so professional, licensed, professional trainers. They offer training at all levels, grooming and kenneling.I really can't begin to tell you what a great job Michael did with Dougal but the entire staff...every phone call, every visit you could see just how much this staff care about these pups (and dogs).Thank you TRS....Mallarry Dierkes

Been a customer of TRS for 10+ years. The improvements Hayssam is incorporating has blown me away and I can’t wait to see what’s to come. Becky is always incredible to work with and I am extremely satisfied with the time and energy they have put into my fur baby for in kennel training. Will definitely be back very soon!

I graduated from the Tom Rose School in 2007 and it was, by far, the best educational experience of my life.(I also have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science). After graduating, I was able to meld my absolute love for dogs and (most) people into a successful career. Not only did I learn the beginnings of how to train dogs but was given the confidence I had always lacked in going out on my own.It was one of the most challenging 6 months of my 58 years and definitely the most important and rewarding.

I attended TRS's Professional and Masters program in 2015. I came in with a modest amount of experience working as a dog trainer and left infinitely better. It's not an easy program but is without a doubt well worth the hard work. The amount of experience and knowledge I gained here was incredible and has helped make me a far better dog trainer and significantly more successful in my business.Beyond the top notch instructors I was also able to make invaluable connections with other trainers and some amazing friends in my classmates. If you want to learn from the best I wouldn't consider any other school.

Not sure why the keyboard warriors are out in force. You shouldn't outsource your critical thinking and at least do a little research. Tom Rose School does not even teach swimming for dogs...those reviews should be removed.A good portion of my dog training skills came from the Tom Rose methodology. He understands dogs, loves them, and knows how to get the most out of them. He is a balanced trainer that offers more than 50 years of hands on experience. If you love your dogs (or just dogs in general), you should be interested in the most humane and least intrusive training. Too many dogs get put down because the owners did not train them and couldn't handle them. Tom Rose School won't let that happen to your dog. He is teaching and inspiring great trainers to go out into the world and help pet owners save their own dogs.As far as training for competition, Tom Rose is in a league of his own and his pedigree speaks for itself.

I went to the Tom Rose School for the July professionals course & learned so much from my experiences there. I still to this day am working on graduating, it's a lot of work and may take time for some, but highly recommend coming here to learn all you need to know about dog training. As far as agility, no one at this school has ever forced me to do anything I didn't want to do with my dog, agility is your choice and your own opinion. They're puppies, they will run/jump around like that in general. Both my puppies LOVE agility and wanted to keep doing it over & over. I had to pull my dog away from the agility courses because she loved it that much. I've never seen a dog not enjoy learning the agility courses. And we teach them in the safest way possible & never force them to do it, they eventually do it all on their own. So please don't bash on a school if you don't like something, we spent weeks talking about the safety & health of dogs and they educated us before we ever even began working on agility. And agility is only one of the million other things you learn at this school. Don't listen to any negative reviews, & if you think a dog is too young to do agility (which in my opinion they are not), then just don't do it. Not that hard :) But the Tom Rose School is a great School & I highly recommend it. You will learn a lot more here than anywhere else. 🐾

Attending the Tom Rose School was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. If you truly have a passion for training dogs to do anything imaginable you will love this program. It is not an easy program- you really have to be devoted and put the work in but it is 100% worth what you get out of it. I would say this is not a casual program. You can learn how to teach a dog to sit out of a book or a pet store puppy class, but if you want to train bombproof dogs that can work for anything without flinching this school is the best you will find. The instructors are extremely thorough, covering everything from starting a business to training competition level canines, and they are available every hour of the day to help you with the many challenges you’ll face. I can’t thank the instructors enough, particularly Dave, Jeremy, and Tom enough. If this is the direction you want with all of your heart you will love every second of it.

We spent A LOT of money going here. The staff was unprofessional. The school and rental properties are dated, falling into disrepair. Basically living there is like living in a slum or worse. The place is a dump. The owner puts the money in his pocket, refuses to maintain student living quarters. The instructors are rude. Unfortunately many dogs are abused and mistreated, and although they say they have strict policies, the instructors turned a blind eye. This school lied to the VA, losing their VA relationship. The drama at the school between students is absolutely ridiculous. After we presented an abuse complaint and said we were going to withdraw they would not give us a refund. I’m warning you, do not get involved with this school. I failed to heed the warnings and they got a lot of our money. Funny, 2 of the people on here that gave it 5 stars were sleeping together during their schooling there. One was a Rose Scholar (total joke program) and one was a new student who couldn’t find her head in a brown bag and could not have done anything with her dog if her boyfriend, who already was training, didn’t help her and basically do it for her. Another student was a total dingbat but she was also screwing a Rose Scholar student who was the one training her dogs so she could pass. And if you don’t pass something, if you are ‘friends’ with the instructors, they will pass you. Total, absolute disregard for the dogs. Knew a student that stomped his puppy’s neck hard enough to cause a seizure, and another time picked a full grown lab up by her ear, but the instructors wouldn’t kick him out. Awful place. . . Save your money. They have been in a legal dispute with the VA now for a couple years. Do NOT waste your money!

I was part of the Professionals course in Jan 2017. It’s been 5 months since I got back from TRS and I couldn’t be happier I choose this school. They have incredible mentors with so much information! If taken everything I’ve learned and put it to work for my business. Month over month sales have increased, this month however has been amazing. Thank you so much for everything you guys have done. Can’t wait to take my masters course in late 2018.I recommend this to anyone even remotely thinking about dog training. not only will they will give you all the knowledge you need but you also get hands on experience with clients dogs. No other school will give you this amount of information!!!!

I found Tom Rose and his instructional techniques and methodologies through a close friend of mine, Nate Schoemer. Nate is a graduate from the Tom Rose School and also served as an instructor for some time at the school upon graduation. I found my interest in dog training when I received my service dog which was initially trained by Nate. After completing a handler’s course offered by Nate I fell in love with dog training and I have been studying the art and science of it since then. I have watched Tom’s instructions and I have learned so much from them! His approach to dog training is caring, structured, and based on science. I hope to one day be a graduate from his school, until then I will continue to study his online content.

I attended this school in 08-09 and it was amazing. They cover all variations of dog training go over he pros and cons of each as well. You learn to train working dogs and pet dogs alike. You work with the public, do board and trains as well. Toms knowledge was and is VAST. I tell people it’s the best school in the world and the fact that two gentlemen come from different countries to learn how to train there would confirm that. This school teaches you everything you need to be the best! Any negative post about abuse and mistreatment is simply false plain and simple

I had my dogs in Mr. Rose boarding facility. They were there for several months. I was recouping from an illness, they came back skinny, dirty and sick. Mr. Rose either is clueless on what goes on at his facility or just doesn’t care. I was paying approximately $1200 a month. Furnished the food and bought treats. Yet both my dogs were skinny and anxious. I was very disappointed and thought what I was paying would assure me of their care.

Tom Rose School was an intense but through program that helped shape and broaden my experiences as professional dog trainer. Not for everyone, but if your looking for a rounded training experience, positive/balanced/compulsive(optional) you will learn a little of everything.

I paid a deposit to go there. Visited. Saw a student kick his puppy a good 10 feet across the room, because it messed up on the test, AND NOBODY CARED. I walked straight out and never looked back. It was dumpy, the students looked stressed, and the dogs were miserable. Fast forward six years and I couldn’t be happier that I never went there. I do not recommend this school, and, based on what I’ve heard over the years, neither do other trainers. - Amy Pishner

I went through The Tom Rose School back in 2012 and it been the best decision I've ever made. I learned all the fundamentals and ground work it takes to work with dogs there. Since then I've worked with hunting dogs in Texas, rehabbed rescue dogs and worked with pet dogs in the north east, competed in dog sports all over the US and now I'm working with police and military K9. I can not express how grateful I am for the time i spent and knowledge I gained going through the professional and master program.

I attended the Tom Rose School in July of 2014, and graduated in November of that year. The experience was unforgettable and inspiring. I don’t think I will ever experience the same at another school. The program was well in-depth and had education on how to use +R only methods and balanced training - something that is essential to understand in this industry. We learned how to raise/train pets, sport, and working dogs. My love for IGP and other sports started here at the school. Since attending, I have trialed in IGP and AKC events often taking first place. The Tom Rose School also helped give me the confidence to serve pet clients and start a successful business.I have learned several important habits and techniques that will stick with me for the rest of my life. I will be forever thankful for the knowledge I have attained for the excellent staff members. The instructors were big on ethical treatment to the animals involved in instruction. Many of the bad reviews you may see on other websites are not the school’s fault just the individual’s poor choice. I was never instructed to do a technique that I found unethical to a dog during my time at the school. One important aspect that was stressed at the school was learning does not end there, the journey of a dog trainer is limitless and this program gives you a great start an foundation .

I love my experience at the Tom Rose School. If your interested in learning how to train pets style or competition style then this is the place. Where you learn multiple techniques for multiple behaviors. They are very open and more than willing to take there time to help you, and they will be straight forward and honest in the best way good investment

In the past 10 years I had taken all my dogs there. In the past year I took a new dog and this time the staff was different. They were unprofessional and didn’t bother to tell me that they had changed their entire staff and now you have to supply your own training tools which wouldn’t typically be a problem but they waited til I picked up my dog to tell me. The old staff that I knew and loved so much and had been thru training with, with 4 other dogs was gone. The new department head made excuses for their lack of professionalism and as much money and time I have spent with them in the past and recommended them I never will again. They do not have the same standard or quality of training that they did 3-5 years ago which is so sad cause they used to be amazing.

My puppy Lilly went through the In Kennel Training and did fantastic. Her trainer Max was professional and helped our family through the training process. We will continue with open training and can't wait to continue our training.

The Tom Rose School was very well ran and organized. Their process works very well for the individual who wants to get into and learn how to train high obedience or compete. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and super helpful. All you really have to do is be a sponge and follow direction. :)

Dog Training with a Touch is such a great book!! I have talked to the staff and they are so enthusiastic and helpful. They are having a tough time with the VA. I would love to go to the school to use my GI Bill but the VA is dragging their feet to recertify them. If you read this please call the VA and bug the hell out of them to get them to recertify this school. Let's use the power of numbers. If not for me, help all the Veterans waiting and wanting to attend this amazing school. Thank you!!Is there a direct phone number for the VA recertification team/individual? If so please post.

These folks are very well vetted in the business of dog obedience training. They have provided many four-legged friends the tools to both succeed in this field, and excel to levels I didn’t think were achievable. Very professional. One disturbing trend in our world of “reviews” is what I noticed here, in that these folks work hard at their passion - changing dog’s behavior and improving the relationships of dogs and owners. But if you don’t like the experience that YOU had with these folks (or maybe you have alterior motives?), you can condemn them via this media, AND OBVIOUSLY get your friends to do the same! When I see the same exact issue repeat itself, it doesn’t take, as we say, a BRAIN SURGEON to figure out what is going on. SAD, but true!!!Good folks. My dog deserves THIS level of care and learning. I would encourage you to to check these folks out....

They work puppies WAY too young. I saw German Shepherd that was maybe 5 months old doing an entire agility course, 12 straight weaves, a-frame, and teeter. I will never take a dog to a place that will allow this kind of training to take place.

Prior student and have nothing but great things to say about the instructors and the course. It is challenging enough to not be a wall in the park but not easy enough that anyone can pass. Listen and put in the effort and this school will make you successful!!

Promotes training puppies to do high impact sports at an extremely young age. If you care about your dogs longevity and not paying vet bills when the dogs develops a chronic injury later in life find a different trainer.

school owner didn't report an incident where a student had two dogs die in a car left unattended for two hours. Not the kind of trainer I'll look for. Since this is the only place that I can respond the answer is, YES I would report Starbucks IF like you the manager knew the dogs were left in the car. Doesn't matter if it was after the fact that the poor dogs die, you still knew about wrong doing on your property and failed to report it.

Dave Van Garderen is a very rude, disrespectful, no customer service skills yelled and literally argued with me, a customer, on the phone. I called with a problem as a current customer and was hoping for a solution or even an apology for being told something that wasnt even possible after they already charged me two weeks of service. All the girls there were nice and so was my dogs trainer, but Dave was a complete JERK!!!!!!!!
