I took my cat there to get spayed, they almost killed my baby, she has a large lump next to her incision, she wouldn’t eat or drink, she was very lethargic. We honestly thought she was dying. Everything regarding this experience was a negative. They quote you one price ($167) and then charge another ($220). Upon taking her back due to whatever they did to her, they quoted me another price to fix THEIR mess up of $450 +. Because I was overly scared that she wasn’t going to make it, I called 3 times in a day and they asked me to come get her. Dr Rob stated that he thought I needed to be there more than my cat. Let me just say, she is my baby, she’s a huge part of our family, you can’t put a price on the love for your fur babies. Go to someone that loves animals, not how much money they can gouge you for and make sure they have a good demeanor towards you as well. If I could say no stars I would! Terrible terrible place!Let me add to this now, I took her to her regular vet this morning because again, she is NOT ok, what Dr. Rob told me was a fatty pocket from the surgery was in fact a very enlarged abscess that she now needs more care for, and ANOTHER surgery to drain it.DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE!!!

I was needing to get my dog into see a vet quick as I did not know what was wrong with him. My son recommended Crain Veterinary. I am so thankful! From the lady that answered the phone, she was so polite, understanding and helpful, I could feel her compassion over the phone and she got me in the same day. When I arrived they got me right in. The doctors were amazing and worked with me. I can not say enough great things about the entire staff! I live 30 minutes away, I pass many vet clinics to get to them. It is worth the drive for my piece of mind and not only for how my dog is loved and cared for but the way they care for and educate me. If you are looking for a compassionate caring place for you and your animal, I highly recommend Crain Veterinary! Thank You again to you and your staff!

Great care and flexibility with our puppy pepper who recently got parvo. She's currently being cared for by the vets in a few over night stays. Originally Saturday was the hopefully date. Now Monday is the next hopeful date. Day 2 of this 4 day challenge is upsetting and stressful for both my wife and I. The Vet took time for a lengthy conversation where I questioned everything being done. He was patient and more than willing to hear my questions as well as answer them.Praying to God she's a spicy pepper we know her to be and come out of this. Thanks to all the staff for being available to see her in only a couple hours of making the call.Update. Day 6 of being hospitalized for parvo, she got to come home. Although it wasn't cheap. You can't put a price on a vet and their practice keeping you updated and working hard for you. We still have healing to do but she is still our little pepper and showing signs of improvement.Doc Rob took care of Pepper. Sunday his father came in and worked hard to keep her hydrated. Between Doc/Vet Rob, his father, numerous staff. Chloe, Dalton, unfortunately many others I can't remember, she's is home again. I can't thank you guys enough. As a couple who may never have kids. I will never go anywhere else as long as I live in missouri. Our pets are our babies and to have her home again means more than anyone will ever know. After many months she is happy and healthy. Going strong with no end in site to the destruction of her toys!

I've recently moved and no longer use Crain, so I feel comfortable posting a true review. I do believe they love the animals and provide good care. They are not the cheapest, but they always have availability, which is great if you have a crazy schedule like me. However I do feel as though they've mislead me on the cost of services on at least two occasions. The last one overcharged me $600 and refused to take any accountability or ownership of the falsity. Regardless, they're not bad vets & techs, but I don't love their business side.

Crain is where I always took my critters when I lived in the area. Now that I live 17 hours away, I have been forced to take my Scooby to a vet where I live now. Scooby was diagnosed in TX with congestive heart failure and some other issues, and the monthly prescriptions they prescribed would cost $305 PER MONTH, and that didn’t include his thyroid medication that he has been on for a few years.I recently came back to Missouri because my grandson was born and in the NICU in Columbia. I made an appointment at Crain, which I had to change twice, due to the craziness I had going on, but Dr. Rob worked with me the whole time. I wanted his opinion on Scooby’s diagnosis, test results, and the medications. They totally went above and beyond what I could ever expect to work with my availability and rushing back to Columbia to be with my daughter and grandson. I cannot thank them enough for all they did for us. Scooby’s medications were reevaluated and now cost less than $100 a month for all of his medications. And, they told me when I need refills to call, and they would ship him what he needs. I called today to order refills and Savannah made it all so easy!If you want to take your critters to a place that will genuinely care, Crain is the place. If you want to feel like you’re not being taken advantage of for money because you love your animal, Crain is amazing! I think very highly of their business and just wish I could bring them to TX with me, but since I can’t, I appreciate them making the accommodations I need to care for my dog in his Senior years.

I 100% agree with ALL the negative reviews!!! I took my ferret here multiple times he got checked multiple times!! Not once did they ever ever say that he had a tumor!!! We took him in when he started to pee himself and wasn’t really walking. That’s when they said he had a tumor and he had to have surgery or he would pass away! We took him that next day to have surgery not even 20 minutes later they called saying they had to put him down I begged and begged and cried on the phone begging them not to do it! They put him down and they still expect me to pay over $1000 for the surgery!!!! IM TRAUMATIZED!!!! I loved my little Nibbles :( he did NOT deserve to go through any of that! SO SAD!!! I no longer take my ferrets here!

Was recommended to come here. Worst experience ever. I should’ve read the reviews like usual. THE REVIEWS ARE ALL TRUE SO BEWARE. They preyed on me for the love I have for my dog. The way they tried to scare and manipulate me into a surgery. And now that I wanted a second opinion and a more affordable option they are being so unethical. They are still refusing to send over records that I legally own since I paid my bill. And Julie, sweetie, it is very unprofessional and disrespectful to acknowledge a doctor as “sweetie”. I will be reporting you guys. Next time I call up there I expect the DOCTORS SOAP NOTES TO BE SENT OVER AS REQUESTED. I WOULD LIKE A DETAILED EXPLANATION AS TO WHY YOU GAVE MY DOG THE CERTAIN MEDICINE YOU DID. I would like detailed notes as to why you did each test. You want me to trust to leave my dog there but one of the veterinarians is like 70 years old and couldn’t even give me the acronym of the TPLO surgery they wanted my dog to have. A nurse or an assistant had to come over and explain it. So excuse me that I did not feel confident in this facility caring for my dog. But I still have legal rights to all of the care she was given and WHY.**** on a positive note. I took my dog to heritage Olathe vet, and Dr. Stafford completed her surgery. It has been about a month and she is healing remarkably!! She will be back to normal in no time. Not only was it affordable, but she did not try to con me because I was In a vulnerable situation. I really hope you all take the time to read these reviews and not take your pets here. And it’s really sad that they have people in the position they do taking advantage of people. Shame on you guys.

Never in my life did I think I’d spend almost five grand on a dog but here I am rocking it!!These people are fantastic!! Dog (Max… but I don’t call him that) loves his extended family here…. but he loves everyone… except one old lady driving a corvette… sorry Ruth he’s usually very lovable…. I blame the car!Seriously though Crain has always treated us like family and has always taken great care of Dog…… ok…… Max.

My dog was running outside and punctured a hole in his paw. He had to stay a couple nights and they worked with us on staying an extra night until we could get the money together. Our dog loves the staff and they’re always so friendly !

I love my dog and was nervous about prices and overall care of Ronin but they are very knowledgeable and reasonably priced. Took very good care of my guy and gave me a lot of information and took the time to explain things to me to help with his help which I very much appreciated. I will definitely recommend this place to my friends and family no 🧢

Crain Veterinary Center The photo is my sweet little Jessy May. On April 4, 2024, I had to rush my baby girl to the vet first thing in the morning because out of nowhere her right back leg was just not working. She could not stand up nor walk. I now know she has what’s called IVDD Intervertebral Disc Disease. Did I get this diagnosis from the Vet Rob Espey Crain Veterinary Center absolutely not!!!! As soon as we arrived at the clinic they took her back for X-rays where is was discovered that she had a bulging disk, which is the Disease I mentioned earlier. There is really nothing that can be done for this except to send home steroids and keep your fur baby in a confined space so they have very little room for movement. Basically time and rest while the inflammation goes down. Crain Veterinary Clinic Rob Espey did not do this instead he saw a way to milk a distraught and panicked customer Myself for everything he could get. I truly don’t believe Rob Espey knew exactly what Jessy had IVDD because I don’t think he is that EDUCATED obviously to know that is what she had. I on the other hand frantically started researching Jessy symptoms the minute I got home that Thursday morning. I was told that she needed to stay at the vets most likely till Saturday because they needed to put her on IV fluids give her steroids and do Laser Treatments. The only thing she actually needed was the Steroids. On Friday when I called I was told by Rob Espey that her front leg started doing the same thing I believe that the Laser Treatment they gave her THAT she did not need caused the issue with the front leg. So instead of getting better she was worse. On Saturday when I called about picking her up I was told by Rob Espey that she needed to stay until Monday, my gut was telling me no go get my baby and bring her home. I asked the Vet Rob Espey about pricing because up to this point I was not told of pricing for any of the treatments she was receiving of which 90% of it was unnecessary. I mentioned to Rob Espey that I did have pet insurance and it was if I had said nothing. When I asked about pricing he said he would have to call me back later that did not happen, instead the receptionist called me with a flat amount of $1,299 with no break down or explanation. After spending hours researching what the real Issue was with Jessy IVDD I made a decision on Sunday that I was picking her up Monday no matter what this worthless Vet Rob Espey had to say. My husband Jimmy Smith and I both went to Crain Veterinary Center that morning because we didn’t have the full $1299.00. When we arrived we were taken to the back to see Jessy where we discussed our Dilemma with Rob Espey we told him we had X amount of money to put towards the Bill and that we could pay the remaining balance on Friday when my husband got paid. He said that we could do that, his Father Jerry Espey which is who I usually deal with Espey Jerry R DVM - Crain Veterinary Center came in and also said yes that would not be a problem. The bottom line here is This Clinic Crain Veterinary Center couldn’t even give me the official name of Jessy illness which is IVDD it’s not even listed on the invoice. This worthless Vet Rob Espey and his Father Jerry Espey took advantage of a distraught client Myself Tina Harley Tina Brunner-Smith, they then humiliated Myself and My husband in the lobby full of customers. I have never in my life dealt with such unprofessionalism at a business in my life. For one of the Owners to stand there screaming at me that we did not come to an agreement on how the bill was going to be handled to say that we never talked to his dad Jerry Espey when he clearly knew that we did and then to Cuss at me in front of everyone. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND taking a RAT to the Crain Veterinary Clinic they will ROBE you blind and not even diagnosed the actual ISSUE why because they ARE uneducated to do so. On a 1 to 5 star rating I give them a -5!!!!

I've gone to Crain for about 30 years. They have a staff of vets that consult with each other instead of compete, and the staff is friendly yet professional. It's always very clean. There are a couple of small dogs with free run of the place that belong to one of the owners. They'll accept pets and treats but won't press for either. I would always recommend them.

I first got introduced to Crain after my beloved Chula was hit on 7 highway we took her there and to have her cremated.Since then my other beloved pet Roe has been there for all her shots and everything else and has flourished health wise as a result of their treatment along with my newest edition MarshMellow just received care there and the doctors waited on me even though I was late they waited on me to get her there and bless their hearts I really needed their help that night this place I would highly recommend it if you've got an animal and they are in any kind of need whatsoever of a veterinarian go check them out you will not be disappointed!I personally thank you Crain!God Bless you all staff included from the bottom of my heart thank you all.Sincerely, JAMES LEIBRECHT

I took in my dog thinking it was parvovirus and he wasn't feeling good at all, could barely move. They did exploratory surgery EVEN THOUGH there was no point and the doctor didn't even let the white stuff digest long enough. Over the week my 3 yr old Labrador Retriever ended up getting infections, he was very swollen in the legs and to make everything worse, my FAMILY had to give him a sponge bath because he wasn't getting bathed regularly. I only gave it the one star because for 1, there is no zero, and two, because the people were nice other than the doctor. We ended up putting our pup down because of it all He just needed medicine. I think all they care for is money not health of the animals. The bill was over $1k

This place needs to be shut down. I’ve had to put a dog down before, and it is already a hard thing to do but my other vet waited for the sedative to take effect before putting him down. That was not the case here, it was not a peaceful euthanasia, my dog was wide awake and the last thing I saw was my dog’s eyes light up with fear. The vet made a comment about how “at least you have another dog” it was very insensitive and ridiculous to say. Please if you can go somewhere else for the sake of your families and fur babies because I don’t wish for anyone to see that. One of the worst things I’ve seen.

My family & I were going out of town, so we let these "vets" take care of our dog for THREE DAYS. The night before we were coming back, the veterinarian did surgery on him and didn't call us to see if that was okay, they called us the next day after they already did it. In their words, "everyone was helping & if it wasn't for us, your dog would be dead." Which cannot be true, they had at least 20 people. All 20 people were helping? Okay sure. Let me give you the run down. He's a great dane, and their diets are different from other dogs. As a veterinary center, you'd think they would already know this. You need to feed them when they are about to take their naps. Otherwise, they'll get bloaded and if not acted quickly they would die. So, the vet not only didn't listen to any of our feeding directions (which was to feed him 3 times a day, because he's the size of a small horse, with the food WE brought with a cup so they know how much, and to feed him when he's about to nap), they then did surgery on him (which could have been avoided) and didn't call us. They used a "signed agreeing paper" that we had signed for his SPAYING a couple years back, and they wouldn't let us see him unless we paid them for that surgery they caused, without our permission, let alone knowledge of, and they then decided to add another cost for the bath they gave him after the surgery. Which you're NOT supposed to do because it would cause pain and infection. Again, as a veterinary center, they should already know this. We tried to sue, but because there was a paper that said we "agreed", and there's no date on it, didn't specify that it was for spaying, we couldn't really do anything. The main veterinarian & some of the staff were so rude to our family, but the moment my dad came straight from work in his uniform, suddenly this guy was syrupy sweet. After a couple days of fighting with these abusive people, we ended up paying because we wanted our dog back, but we were very upset, disappointed & frustrated. When I tell you this was the sweetest, softest dog I've ever met. He was very sad and in so much pain, you could see his spine and ribs poking out of his body. We got his food bucket back which barely got touched, and the blanket he supposedly got stomach fluid on when he was blaoded, which isn't sanitary at all. My dog LOVES getting pets, cuddles, beaing near everyone, and when we got him home, he didn't want to be touched at all. This boy was so happy to see his family, he didn't like any of the vets, when we could finally see him, he hid behind my mother. As soon as we got home, we made an appointment and visited an animal hospital. They told us that he hadn't been fed correctly and we found out that these "vets" from Crain didn't give our dog ANY PAIN MEDS. When he got home on meds, he was wagging his tail and rubbing up against us, acting like himself again without a care in the world. DO NOT EVER take your pet here, if you love them. And always date your papers if there is none. They don't even deserve one star, they should shut down. That's animal abuse, and it's not okay.

They were absolutely wonderful when my elderly dog became sick and wounded. It was a difficult situation and the staff and physicians were so comforting. When it was time for my pup to pass, the sympathy and caring from everyone in the office was unremarkable. They put my pups paw print on a stone for us and sents cards. Recommend this faculty and staff a million times over.

They were extremely nice and let me stay with my boy til he took his last breath, and then let me stay for a while after saying my goodbyes. I loved that dog so stinking much and have been in a complete downward spiral since. I can't stop weeping, and I accidentally set my home on fire that same night. I keep telling myself that it was punishment for taking his life, but he's not in pain anymore and that's what's important.

Vets who always take great care of animals. My cats are always in great hands here. Boarding is reasonably priced, vaccinations and check-ups are less than you think they'll be. The staff is kind and very knowledgeable. I reccommend Crain every time.

DO NOT take your animals here! I took my dog here because she had either sprained or broken her leg the night before chasing balls and starting limping immediately afterward. I went there bc my regular vet is a long drive and I wanted to find somewhere close. They took Xrays and then proceeded to tell me that she had cancer and they recommended an IMMEDIATE AMPUTATION ALL THE WAY TO THE SHOULDER--and that it had to be done THAT DAY, which immediately raised red flags with me. I said, no offense, but I definitely want a 2nd opinion before doing anything that drastic. Then I went to my own vet who took their own Xrays, and SHE DIDN'T HAVE CANCER AT ALL!! I cringe every time I think about how we could have put our sweet dog through such a terrible surgery (which would have surely shortened her life in itself) ALL FOR NOTHING! Yet Dr. Espy (at Crain's) was SO adamant that it needed to be done immediately - - for $2300 of course--that it's obvious that it was all about the money for them. They also charged me considerably more money than they told me ahead of time and then threatened to keep my dog if I didn't pay all of it. They also INJURED MY DOG (pics attached) - -most likely when intubating her for sedation, and when I pointed it out, the vet said nothing. IF YOU ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT YOUR PETS STAY AWAY FROM CRAIN'S!!! Thankfully my pet is still alive and well, but ONLY because I had the sense to RUN out of that place as fast as I could!!!

We had a freak accident with are new puppy! She had her foot stuck in a dog pen! They took great care of her and us while in distress! They didn’t hesitate to answer any of our questions!! The were able to get us in for an appointment in less than 30 mins from calling. When we came back to pick her up only 4 hours later!! She did have to be sedated, but was walking great and acting like nothing ever happened 2 days later! She loves coming for check ups and everyone from the vets, technicians, and receptionist are all soo amazing! We will continue coming her!!Thank you again so much!!!❤️☺️Pictures includeFirst photo: Opal in her dog bed as soon as we came home from the vet!Second photo: Opal last week after a great checkup!!

They were great. I came in as a walk-in with my kitty. They were very friendly, fast, & reasonably priced. At check out, my girl broke off her quick release collar/ leash & hid under the food/supplies shelf that was about 2 inches high. Almost all the staff, if not all, including my awesome vet, came up front to assist in getting her out. After getting her out & some laughs, my vet also offered a loaner pet carrier just in case she did it again in the parking lot, & wouldn't get hit. Very impressed. I was also able to apply for care credit that was advertised on their site, so in addition, my bill is 6 months interest-free.

We were out of town and they helped our adult children (22 &19) navigate our kitty's issues which ended up needing surgery. They kept everyone calm and took great care of everything. We love Jerry and Rob and the team. They are tye best. They are thorough and at the same time wise about the tests they run and always tell you what and why.
