Honestly wish I would’ve found this place sooner! It’s a smaller business, but in my opinion they have better options of pets, compared to the big chain pet store in town. And the prices are very reasonable! I really recommend! Plus they have a big ole Tortoise! Real chill just walks around he shop😂

I was very surprised to find a pet store so close to my business. I was even more surprised to see that Tropical Island Pets was stocked with medication for fish. The staff is knowledgeable about a wide verity of pets and took the time to answer all of questions. If you are looking for something other than a big box store, this is the place!

Always a friendly place to visit. Staff are extremely knowledgeable and a pleasure to be around. Tanks are always very well maintained with happy and healthy fish. They also have many reptiles to choose from. Snakes, lizards, geckos and more.

Had never been there before but the experience was a good one! Young lady who helped us out with all questions and concerns was very up on it all of it! We purchased a 4 month old Pygmy Dragon and all the set things that was needed to start! They even wrote down a list of greens and fruits for us!!Have a question for owner? The water bowl isnt working for what i can tell. The reviews on the dripper was terrible...what can i do so that it has plenty to drink along with greens. Not eating them very well even though i copped them up as told. Any ideas on the water situation?

I recently purchased a ball python from a breeder, i felt something was off with him so I found Tropical island pets, I took my boy up there and asked for advice. Thanks to the lady who owns it I have been educated and my boy is feeling much better.

I absolutely LOVE this place. The owner Cass is amazing and runs the store basically on her own! She is a young hustler that knows what she’s doing and takes good care of her shop, reptiles, fish, and other little creatures she has in there. I always have the best experience when I am in her shop. I purchased her bumble bee calico python over a year ago now and she knows exactly who I am and what I bought and when I bought him. 5 stars all the way (:

This is the only place I get my fish from now on unless i find my self in st Louis. the fish are always healthy and the owner is always helpful. They are still doing great unlike other petshops and great on pricing.

Good store. Highly recommend! Slowly stocking a community tank at the moment and they have a great selection and if they don't have what you need they can get it for you. Also very knowledgeable. And helpful

I’ve always had a positive experience when buying from here, plus I love that they have the option of a payment plan if you need more time. I can spend hours looking at all their lovely animals, and all my animals from them have been very healthy! The cute pups are always a plus too!

This is a hidden gem of a store! I stopped by to check it out today. They have a large variety of fish and snakes! They even had axolotls. They have snakes that I've never seen before! I must take my online inside to take pics next time!

bought 10 rats from this place and asked if they had all female rats.. they assured me they did and packed them up for me.. unfortunatly they lied to me and I didnt check to see what they had given me so when I got home and transfered them from the box they gave me there was 5 male and 5 female.. called to talk to them about it and they just hung up on me and now will not answer the phone... I would have bought the rats no matter what there was no need to lie to me and tell me they were all female when they knew they were not.. will not go back there.. they are dishonest..

Was unaware this place existed and had always wanted to have another local pet store when I moved back to the area. The day I found them I was in awe. I loved the atmosphere inside the quaint little store! And though they have all sorts of animals, fish, etcetera, I was immediately drawn to and stayed in the reptile/snakes area for atleast 45 minutes. Staff was super friendly, super helpful, talkative and assisted me with everything I had to ask about getting myself a baby Hypo Tangerine Honduran Milk Snake, which they are ordering and helping me with! I am thankful for these guys. 5 stars, will be visiting more!

Knowledgeable, freindly, and has a large assortment of pets available... We just recently aquired another rabbit to roam the house ... Seems to be making itself right at home ... Already followed the other bunny hops up on the couch and looks out the window and just stretched all out ... goes potty when it eats and gets a drink in the box. Can tell she was stressed at first, but she is already making herself at home. .. Glad we got her....

This is a great place, the tanks and cages are always clean and the animals always look healthy. I've found the prices on the animals, supplies, and equipment to all be very reasonably prices as well and even cheaper than the big box stores. I've always had very positive experiences with the employees and they are very knowledgeable. So if your in the SEMO area and in the market for fish or other exotic pets I highly recommend this place!!!!

Excellent variety of pets and supplies. New and used, she has everything you could need or want for.whatefrr pet u choose. I have been working with her for about a year now I am an avid aquarist and I would not go anywhere else to get my fish or aquatic supplies very fair prices. And it doesn't hurt that she's super friendly to boot.... And extremely knowledgeable in regards to the animals that she keeps

The quality of fish and fish care at Tropical Island Pets is worse than Petco, who is notorious for their lack of quality, healthy fish provided by knowledgeable fishkeepers. I’ve tried to give Tropical Island Pets chances to improve since my original visit when they first opened was less than stellar. Right around when Tropical Island first opened I purchased 10 Harlequin Rasboras and they quickly started dying with cottony growth on their bodies. I reached out to Tropical Island Pets by bringing in pictures of the fish and information on their behavior I was scoffed at and treated like I was not knowledgeable because I was 99 percent certain they had Columnaris. They told me it was fungal and most likely from my acclimation process because they had good water quality and trusted their supplier. They sent me home with expired fungal medication, which I attempted to use. It did not work and all but 1 of the fish ended up dying before I could start bacterial medication. Once I started the antibiotics the fish quickly got better and I had other experienced aquarists agree with me that it was a slower killing strain of Columnaris and not Fungus which I had suspected.In March 2023 I decided enough time had passed and I was willing to go back and give Tropical Island another shot. I figured since they had time to hire more staff and establish themselves they would have healthier fish. I was wrong. On my last visit at the end of March, I noticed that one tank with rummynose tetras appeared to have Ich. My companion informed the employee in case they were not aware. The worker said they had not seen that. He seemed very uninterested and continued to landscape the plants in their tanks over checking out the sick fish. As I continued to look at the tanks I noticed that many of the fish had fin rot, and some fish appeared to be developing septicemia with red spots on their body that was under their skin/scales and unrelated to the fishes coloring. They also improperly kept their fish by splitting schooling species, notably albino corydoras, into multiple tanks with one to two fish together. Cories are schooling species who do best in groups of 6+.Overall I have been very disappointed in Tropical Island Pets. The health and care of the fish are not important to them, and many of their used tanks for sale are very old, wood trimmed, and fairly dirty. While I know this is a pet store and it is harder to keep clean, the store is dusty and dirty, including cobwebs covering the stock. I will be making the trip to Saint Louis or ordering my fish and supplies online from here on out because supporting unreliable fish keepers only encourages improper care of living animals. I cannot believe they have such high ratings on Google and Facebook.

Not a place for first time reptile owners. The 2 ladies in there weren't really helpful on suggesting a good start for what I was looking for. Didn't care if they made a purchase or not. Supplies seemed to be priced steep.i think Petco would have a better customer experience
