This place is absolutely amazing! We stayed in a bed and breakfast just a block away in downtown Augusta and what a gem to have right there! First off Dylan the bartender (and so much more) greets you as soon as you walk in and from there the service never lets up! We were lucky enough to get the cozy little what we called the chefs table right near the bar and kitchen. We highly recommend asking for this seat because you get preferential treatment for sure! We did the 5 course tasting menu and were blown away. So reasonable priced for the high quality of food and service. I’ve eaten at some 3 Star Michelin restaurants and not had as amazing of a meal! We will definitely be back over and over again what an amazing experience!

We drove 45 minutes to get here and would drive double that for this experience. We had the 5 course tasting menu and everything was impeccable. I let Zach choose my meal and cocktail and could not be more delighted. The bar tender was delightful and a master of his craft. The other server was also so cheery. Folks seemed to be happy to work here which made the atmosphere even more enjoyable. Chef Phillip and his team have created a gem. If you are thinking about going, do it. You will not be disappointed. Thank you to the Root Food + Wine for this unforgettable experience.

Root Food + Wine was a journey of flavor combinations that I never thought of together. They work amazingly well together. Smooth and crunchy, salty and sweet, popcorn and chicken?… delicious! Everyone in our party had the seven course chefs tasting menu. Kirsten, our server, described the complex taste revelations as “a party in your mouth” and she was right. We loved the vintage look and welcoming staff. This is a top notch must try experience. All farm to table. Their sources are mostly local and all listed on the front of the menu. All of our drinks looked like works of art and, as the food, we’re all exemplary taste combinations. I’ve included, too many, pictures of everything we had. It’s easy to see why this up and coming chef is winning awards!

This is not a restaurant, it's an experience! Plan on spending a few hours here as each course is served with enough time to savor the flavors. I highly recommend the wine pairings with as it just enhances the dish. The service is exemplary! Our server Lily was very knowledgeable. Head bartender, Dylan was has a gift for creating unique and delicious cocktails. Chef Phillip's dishes are nothing less than masterpieces full of flavors from local farms. Don't miss out on this gem!

Loves it! Super cute place. I did the chef's pairing, which was delicious! All fresh herbs are from their garden. Their portion size is good. I was served; corn, watermelon gazpacho, trout with butter sauce, the duck was tender, meatloaf, it has Korean pepper sauce chili was good. They use a lot of miso. Nothing is over seasoned. I was soo full. Then the first dessert, "milk and lucky dog honey"(which was my fav) it wasn't to sweet, it was refreshing to try something new. The last dessert is blackberry cobbler. Which tastes kinda like a peanut butter jelly sandwich, but that's just my opinion, it was still was good. Their patio is romantic in evenings with the lights, and have cute cats come up to you but they don't bother you. Friday evenings there not to many ppl there. Great place for date night.

A culinary adventure! Flawless execution of creative dishes. We were a party of 6, all the following was wonderful; sourdough bread & butter, duck bacon, pate, lamb, trout, beef and veritable soup! Believe it is “Diego” the mixologist, a true wizard at his craft, Kelly Cosmo and others. For desert We had a cheesecake and the honey and milk both exceptional, honey and milk probably the finest desert any of us have ever had, fabulous!

I cannot rave about this experience enough. I took my wife here for her 30th birthday with a couple of friends and family and have never had another culinary experience that comes close to this; Chef Philip and his team absolutely knocked it out of the park. The food was top notch: creative, thought out, sourced locally, fresh, light, and the most delicious combinations of flavors & textures. I could adjective vomit all-day long, but the only way for you to understand and appreciate it is to book a reservation NOW! Cheers, Root Food + Wine, team, thank you for your hospitality.

We had a reservation tonight for 10. To be honest, I didn’t have high hopes when we pulled up to the modest establishment in Missouri. My family is a foodie family comprised of a chef/restauranteur and many amateur chefs so expectations run higher than normal. However, once we were seated and I read the menu my attitude quickly changed. This Chef knows what he’s doing! When our server Zach described each dish our mouths watered and everyone was excited with anticipation. The beet and pecan taco amuse-bouche was phenomenal and I knew we were at the right place. The 3 course dinner was executed perfectly and the cantaloupe, black pepper sorbet intermezzo was an unexpected highlight of the meal. Not to mention, the beautifully crafted cosmo cocktail from Dylan that was a show stopper when the bubble bursted and smoke filled the table. Overall I’d give this place an 11/10. Food and service are A+. It’s a hidden gem that you should run to. Your palate will thank you. Next time I’m in Missouri, I’ll definitely be back. Thanks for a wonderful evening!

Absolutely amazing experience! A five star restaurant walking distance from our Rental house! Our group of 3 friends couldn’t decide between all the beautiful hand crafted cocktails to delicious chef inspired dishes so we ordered many and shared and made reservations for the next day to experience even more! Zach was our server and he was fantastic! His enthusiasm and attention to detail was a bonus!

A do not miss place from anywhere near St. Louis. A beautiful setting in warm, intimate surroundings, with excellent services, inventive cocktails, and terrific execution. Just go, but beware that reservations will be likely needed!

Amazing farm to table experience from the custom crafted cocktails to the surprise miso peanut butter cookies. Think Stone Soup Cottage on a smaller scale. The entrees by Chef Philip are unique and incredible and the service by Dillon and Zach was fun and attentive. Great place for a special occasion as they will make it extra special for you!

Well I’m sorry to say this was a total let down from all other reviews. For a place that a reservation is coveted, you wouldn’t have known that on Sat 10/7/23. Our party of 6 had a 12:30pm reservation. We arrived at exactly 12:30 or even a few minutes prior as we are very respectful of timing for such a small venue. To our surprise the host said our table would be ready in just a moment because he just had a walk in with a party of 6 get seated a few minutes before us. A walk in? Needless to say it was more like “Root canal” aching for this disaster to be over with. By 2:20 we still didn’t have our main course. Almost two hours into this “experience” by the time we left it was almost 3pm and that was with our deserts packed to go! When making reservations for such a small place , if there are issues with staffing and “walk ins” the simple courtesy to contact the person who made the reservations and explain your issues we could have just appreciated that and made other lunch plans. Instead….root canal.

When you pull up the first thing I thought was this place needed to be painted. Didn’t want to sit outside because the weeds were so bad, needs some decorating overall in and out. Very underwhelming experience. I thought the food was good, chicken not so much with popcorn on it nor was the dessert. Dessert looked my bathroom loofah fell apart in there. Was burnt tasting. The portions are so small we left and went to Dierbergs and bought 3 dips and ate again. We won’t be back.

Absolutely fantastic.Perfect pairings and portions, the 5 course tasting menu was just hit after hit without a single miss. The amuse bouche beet tacos, the miso/pho adjacent broth starter, the goat cheese and spinach tart, THE TROUT (oh, the trout) with the pickled onion-garlic-things that I wish I could remember the name of, the double beef, the chicken fricassee, the basil/strawberry desert and honey panna cotta. I was repeatedly wowed with each new dish. Oh, and the cocktails were great, especially the Basil Gin.The service was excellent; fun and friendly with great intros and descriptions for each dish (not too much, not too little). They were fun to chat with but also gave us the perfect amount of breathing room. The herb garden patio seating was lovely, especially with the evening spring weather. The neighborhood cats were an unexpected and adorable addition as well!As a fan of the chef's previous restaurants, and having heard Root's praises from family in Augusta, I knew it would be good. I did not think it would be THIS good. I will definitely be back and will be telling everyone I know that they need to have a visit!Thank you!

Root surpassed my expectations! Exceptional, personal service from making the reservation to being welcomed and seated. Rachael was an incredibly warm and knowledgeable server who offered valuable information about our wine pairings. Dillon is a master mixologist with a great personality to match. One of the best cocktails I've ever had! Our food was seasonal deliciousness--the presentation as impressive as taste, texture and flavor profile. We went with the 3-course option and were able to sample a bit of everything. Chef Day visited out table to ensure we were happy. Impressive the he is also the owner. Root is the GEM of Augusta. I will be back again again!

Saturday I took my wife to Root Food+WineThe experience was one of a kind, the food is smaller portions but there is so much complexity packed into each bite that it more than makes up for the lack of volume. Everything is sourced locally, for example the mushrooms are from JT in OFallon MO.You can taste the freshness, and the way it is prepared is feels elevated. Zach was our server and explained each dish that provided more appreciation for what the Chef was trying to convey. He also has a lot of personality in a good way.Dillon provided drinks and was kind enough to make a non-alcoholic drink for my pregnant wife that was objectively deliciousToo much today our culture eats to live it’s no more than a task that needs to be done. Here at Root, we got to experience people who are dedicated to their craft, who live to eat. They put as much life and soul into their presentation that makes life a little better with each bite
