Two years in a row I have gone to Heartland Harchery for my chick and also gosling needs. They are the EASIEST to work with. I love that they take orders the week of because I dont have to worry about being “too late” to place my order. I also have gone straight to the hatchery for pickups and I promise you it’s worth the drive. Beautiful drive and so easy and convenient. So friendly and enjoyable to work with. Greeted with a laugh and a smile each time. I won’t get chicks or other from anywhere else. HIGHLY recommend. Chicks (40 in total, various breeds) and my one Toulouse Goose are healthy and very happy. Choose Heartland Hatchery!

I bought over 100 chicks. And he gave me extra..... they all lived. Super nice guy, gave me the tour. Worry the drive from KC MO. I also shipped 60 to my cousin in Illinois from a separate order. All lived.

Bought 10 chicks, he gave 1 extra, barely 72 hours ago at Chick days and have now lost 9 chicks. I lost 3 within 24 hours, 3 found dead this morning and 3 more died within 4 hours and they weren't even lethargic, or showing any signs of being sick, when I found the first 3. Now I am down to 2 chicks, and out the money I spent (because its buy a min of 10 at $5 each or pay $7 per chick. I have never had this many chicks die this quickly and ice been raising chicks for several years and raised over 100 this year the exact same way this year. I knew this hatchery had bad reviews but also saw many good ones so took the risk, unfortunately it wasn't worth it and I'm now out the money because unlike most hatcheries this one does not offer any guarantees or refund any money

UP date: Those chickens are now laying eggs. SMALL eggs. The hens are 6 months old. small eggs still ?? ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I bought some chicks at a local store where someone from Heartland Hatchery was allowed to set up a few tables inside. The Store advertised $4 per brown egg layer chicks. It was Cash only, no recite and $7 per chick. I hope I got pullets and I also hope they are what he said they were. I'll find out if they are Bantams or Pullets in a couple months. I sure hope all the time and $ wasn't wasted.

They will load you up on roosters with the pre orders. You’ll basically pay $20-30 for one Pullet. Used to be free to pick them out on Chick days. Better off ordering from a real hatchery

DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THIS HATCHERY! Their chicks are infested with gapeworms!!! We pre-ordered two silkie chicks from this hatchery. They recommended that we show up later to their store pickup so that we wouldn't have to wait in line for an extremely long time. They had our two chicks set to the side for us but one of them was clearly not in very good condition. It wasn't alert and couldn't stand up properly. Unfortunately, since they told us to arrive late, they had completely sold out of chicks and we couldn't pick out a healthier one. We took them home and hoped the unhealthy chick would perk up after warming up. The next day it was breathing heavily and had a very messy bottom. It died and then the second chick we purchased from them exhibited the same symptoms and died as well four days later. It is extremely likely that their other chicks are also sick and so I strongly recommend you find a different company or breeder to purchase from. Gapeworms are highly contagious and it is extremely difficult to treat in very young chicks. This was a very disappointing experience especially since they knowingly gave us a sick chick even with us calling ahead and placing an order. I hope that other people will not have to go through this as well.

This is the second year we have bought from this hatchery and this is the second year we’ve had babies die. Last year wasn’t as bad cause we bought over 20 this year we only bought four. And at $7.00 ea. to have one day is highly irritating will be taking my business else where for special breeds from now on.

What a great local company! 10 STARS!! Picked up my last bunch of the year, today. I’m so very pleased of the quality of birds. This year I’ve purchased over 100 chickens, ducks, and turkeys. Can’t wait for spring, so I can start buying again.

Bought from them 3 times. First time was fine. Next 2 times chicks were sick and 12 out of 14 were roosters. Most died and i was out a lot of money. My friend also bought chicks and his also died within 2 weeks. However the chicks I bought at Orschelns were fine and healthy. I'm not pleased!

Very disappointed me and many others were told to call at 6pm to place our Chick orders. We all waited and when we called at 6pm as instructed we got no chicks because he’d been taking orders all day and had a stack by the time 6pm came. So the people who didn’t follow the rules including the hatchery that made the rule get rewarded with chicks while the people who did follow the rules got nothing. Seems to be how society is today backwards garbage

I got a black silky a gray or a white silky and polish it was an incredibly long drive but they were very nice and made special arrangements to meet me on a Sunday and I couldn't have asked for a better experience

These ducks are so much fun. I can watch them like duck TV. I got them from Heartland Hathcery who had chick days at Valley Feed and Seed in Bonner. Great food, great ducks. They were born March 1 and now they are over 10 pounds, all of them. Bonner has the best feed in town, by a long long margin.They have been teaching me how to grow grain in my backyard. I live on 0.19 acres, less than a quarter of an acre, and I produce thousands and thousands of pounds from my yard each year. These ducks have DOUBLED the productivity of all the other crops. They eat bugs, they mow the grass, they play in the pond seven times a day, they catch their own frogs and fish, and they poop a lot, and it can be used fresh, like rabbit manure. And if you are a gardener, you know how great that is.Hat tip to Valley feed and seed and Heartland hatchery for upgrading my farm in so many ways. The goat is next, don't tell the hubby.Ophelia = the crested black Swede, Hangry = peking duck, Surley = Peking Drake, Esther (because I like bread) = Silver Swede, Venus and Serena are the most gorgeous black cayugas, they are irridescent green and absolutely stunning, and more athletic than the other ducks. They can fly like 4 foot! They are so proud! 4 foot off the ground, hahaWe got the perfect ratio of 5 ducks (hens) to 1 drake by picking 9 ducks to start and giving away the 3 extras as soon as we would tell which gender.@urbanwilds farm and forage
