This more of a 3.5 star review, but I'll round up. We'd gone for years to her spot in Denver until it burnt down. We'd drive from 2.5hrs away a few times a year to dine and enjoy the atmosphere. We always had great meals and enjoyed our time. The last two times were in the current local in Albany. Yes, I'll admit I miss the old building and moose hanging out over my table... lol. So the atmosphere is different, but not necessarily bad. What got me was the food quality and staff attentiveness. Both times the food wasn't good. I had cold food (potatoes in the center) so it wasn't warmed thoroughly. It took them an inordinate amount of time to serve us, and they couldn't make a mixed drink so save their souls. Granted, they said the regular bartender was gone, so I can't expect much there.Steak was overcooked, potatoes cold, and the service slow. They were really nice ladies and I enjoyed talking with them, but they didn't appear to have their heads in the game. The dessert was top shelf, so that helped.I'm not sure I'd drive 5hrs round trip to come back. After the first time at the new location, we just chocked it up to having a bad night. Everybody does. But two in a row wasn't good for their reputation. It seemed like there was more buzz about burrito night the following week than focus on the customers in the place to begin with.I hope they get things straightened out. The days of the chocolate fountain may be gone forever...

I could write a short book on how bad the food and service was at Hughes bar X in Albany, MO. I ate there for the first time a couple weeks ago because I am temporarily living in this town. As desperate as it is for restaurants (which you can count on one hand in town), I will never go back! I live less than 2 miles from it. I have eaten out way too often (usually more than once a week) no matter where I have lived throughout my life. This was the worst overcooked food and there is no MINUS sign for less than 5 stars for the bad service. The 4 people at a table across from mine would make occasional comments to me and we all almost chuckled at every detail throughout the meal of how bad everything is from food to service. Being a town of less than 2,000 people I'm guessing the good reviews were by relatives or people who know owner/staff so they don't want to give them a bad review. People lie like that on reviews if you don't know that by now.

Food was ok, Prime rib was juicy just no flavor, the roll was delicious, service no so good.

My friends and I wanted somewhere to go eat on a Sunday and didn't want to go to St Joe. My friend suggested we go here and I will just say we will all go back the food was wonderful. The price was very reasonable. We were able to sit and relax and visit. The staff was very nice. The selection was very broad we all got what we wanted and loved our experience

Our waitress was very friendly and checked on us often.I had the filet mignon and it was cooked to perfection, my husband had prime rib and he said it was delicious. It was an all around great experience, will definitely be returning again.

I have to say. For me personally. I have eaten prime rib in damn near every state in the USA. What I ate tonight was nothing short of Devine Prime Rib. That's actually what she should call it. No fooling. I don't know where she gets the meat. But seriously close to as tender as wagyu or kobe. All the fixins are up to par as well. Nothing cheap or fake about this food. She should be a standard in our world full of fake food full of preservatives. I hope this place stays. I will be coming back. The atmosphere was country and down to earth. Thank you! Damn meat was fall apart even after refrigerated. Lol.

Heard this place was really good so drove an hour to get their. The waiter told us we needed to sit in a booth when a table was requested so was going to leave but was told we could use table. After ordering food the service was slow food was charred but fries were good. Finally received the ticket after asking several times was told while paying that there is a 3 dollar surcharge on any dinner that had beef including hamburger. This was never mentioned at anytime before or during meal and is not written anywhere on menu. The restraunt also charged a surcharge for using a card to pay so a 35 dollar meal actually end up costing over 46 dollars. Never received an itemized ticket. I will never go back due to poor service and all added surcharges.

We had three couples go on a Saturday night. Five steaks and one tenderloin sandwich. We all thought it was some of the best food we ever tasted. The steaks were cooked perfectly, the potato, roll and salad were great. We will be back. The desserts looked great, will need to save room next time.

I have to say if you want a great steak or prime rib this is the place to go! The service was great, food was amazing. Very clean and loved the decor. Prices were very reasonable and the amount of food was plentiful. To say or to rate this place as poor you have got to be CRAZY! We will definitely be back. Kudos to the staff and Charmayne you have a awesome place!

My son ordered the tenderloin and fries. It was one of the worst I have ever tasted in my life. The crust was mushy and it was cold. This is probably the 3rd time we’ve ate there. I keep trying to give it a chance but it’s never good.

If you had the chance to visit the original Bar X, you will be sorely disappointed. Restaurant was nearly empty on a Friday night, with a handful of people in the lounge. Decor in the new restaurant is random at best, and still has a creepy nursing home vibe. Prime ribs were fatty and not cooked as requested, and shrimp pasta was cooked in a flavorless red wine sauce (because they “ran out” of appropriate white sauce). For $20 a plate, customers deserve properly prepared dishes. Desserts looked great but lost my appetite with the main course. Bottom line: not what it’s been hyped up to be, especially for the price.

The best Prime Rib I have ever tasted!Very good down home country cooked food, so come with a big hearty appetite! Handicap accessible, reservations for large groups and a nice relaxed setting for couples as well. Take pleasure in the restaurant or the lounge area and is a non smoking establishment.

This evenings meal was excellent. Mariah, our server, knew her menu and her specials. She was attentive and patient. They were a little short staffed. However, that actually created an ideal environment for extended conversation. Over all, I was impressed with everything.

Decor was eclectic, but I loved the old motorcycles. Portions were good sized. Crab salad had good flavor but could've used less onion and more variety of veggies. I don't get the whole steak on a leaf of lettuce or served with horseradish on it and my steak was dry (blue rare should definitely not be bloodless) & had no flavor, fries varied from being overcooked in parts, undercooked in others, & needed less grease and salt.

Had a very nice evening. The atmosphere was fun. The Prime rib was very good. And the Fried Lobster was the best I've ever tasted. The service was great. Very friendly and fast. I will definitely be going back. I'll give it 5 star's out of 5.

Kansas City and St Joe, attention! Little Albany, Mo has an unbelievable steakhouse. It rivals my favorite in Spokane,Wa- Churchill's. The prime rib was perfection. Baked sweet potato and house salad with ranch, homemade, thank you.... Would be worth the 1 hr drive and the prices are such that it does not break the bank. Very casual dress. Do not skip desert. All homemade. What a gem!

I was a bit disappointed after driving 2 hours based on their previous reviews. The steaks and rolls were good. The baked potato was cold and hard. I think the potato was a left over that was warmed back up. The ff's were over cooked and my piece of pie was burnt. Service was slow.

The best part of the meal was the dessert selection. The worst part was that the food was cold. It was pretty much serve yourself, besides the fact that it was a buffet. We weren't sure if we were supposed to seat ourseves or not. Had to look for someone to get drinks and coffee afterwards. The salads were tasty as well as the ham and prime rib. The assorted meats had a funny taste and the funeral potatoes were the worst ever. Always wanted to try the buffet because the desserts looked awesome..we won't be back.

The wait was a little long but the food was well worth it. Prime rib was cooked perfectly and the desserts were excellent. I will definitely make the hour long drive to eat here again.

They have a wide array of desserts. Lots of sugar so Im out.Their rolls, Walmart makes better, maybe I should’ve had a different one, mine was crusty. Everyone else seem to make a big deal about the butter, I make my own, so I’ll just say it’s butter. The homemade ranch dressing was really good but they don’t give it to you in a cup so they control the amount so my salad was saturated. Which I will say is better than giving me too little.I got a tenderloin everybody else got steak. I noticed that everybody’s choice of “done”, whether it be rare or medium well with the same color of meat. Taste seem to be good!My tenderloin taste good! I prefer the breading not to be moist but it was good all the same. Two of us got Sweet potatoes they said they were really good.Everyone seem to be happy that there was a large list of alcohol choices but maybe its was because it was Friday night after a long work week.Parking is odd. Nice atmosphere, interesting remodel. Servers seem to be helpful and attentive to your needs. A satisfactory experience I will definitely return.
