Great attentive staff. Used their daycare services every week and my dog loved it. I would also use their grooming services before I left to go home for breaks and he always came back smelling wonderful! I will definitely be back whenever I come and visit!

This is one of the most clean and well taken care of boarding facilities!! I have an extremely anxious dog and she took to this place well. My only issue is they never answer the phone :( I know my dog is well taken care of, but I still like having questions regarding pick up and medication answered if I call.

The only place that will groom my cocker spaniel, due to her being “hard to handle”! I drive an hour for their service because it is beyond amazing. They take their time with her because she is very anxious when being away from me. I am so thankful for the staff! 10/10 recommend to anyone!

We’ve been using Shaggy Hound for 6 years. Our dog loves it there and I am grateful for a place to take her when I can’t be home during the day. All the employees are friendly and I love seeing pictures of our pup at play.Even though our dog has a medical condition (seizures), we’ve never felt anxious about leaving her at the Hound.

So glad to find this place! They took such great care of our boy Andy...he was in desperate need of a full service groom after moving cross country with us this month, and they took wonderful care of him here. He looks and smells so good! We're excited to try the daycare here as well...we are super happy to have found a great place like this that offers grooming, daycare and boarding. A++++!!! 🐾🐾🐶

Nicest dog loving staff who take great care to ensure your k9 is well taken care of. Our Golden, Ollie, loves to stay there...just say "shaggy hound" to him and he's in the car ready to go! We live in Louisville.They design your dogs experience specific to his or her personality. We love the grooming and bathing options - kinda bougie but cool. Great value!

I took my Husky to them last week! She can be... stubborn.... and has received a “hard to handle” fee in the past from groomers who weren’t as caring as Shaggy Hound! They called me twice to update me and told me they were giving her lots of breaks as she is a very anxious dog! They were so patient and cared for her. She was glowing and so happy when I picked her up! That made my heart smile hearing and seeing how sweet and caring they were being to my anxious “hard to handle” pup! When I got her back, her coat has never looked better and she still smells amazing a week later! I have no idea what shampoo they use, but for a big dog to smell this great I am blown away! We will be using Shaggy Hound from now on! Customer service, the actual grooming, the playing experience with other dogs, and the price are unbeatable! ❤️

I loved Shaggy Hound so much I applied for a job there. I transferred from Memphis and brought my furry baby along with me. I heard about Shaggy from a friend and called to set up a tour. The lady was very nice and helpful and I loved being able to find a spot for my dog to feel comfortable in. He felt so comfortable that he went and started playing and acted like I was embarrassing him around his new playful friends. He loves the daycare and boarding has never been an issue! I work at this great establishment and I can assure you that your babies are in loving hands. We all love cuddling and throwing tennis balls for all the dogs here. I also have had my baby groomed and bathed here and you can tell he feels so handsome after being groomed! Please bring your furry babies to us!

After three visits to the Shaggy Hound, I would give two stars. On the first visit, I took my dog to be groomed and had an underwhelming experience. They severely underestimated the time it would take to groom my dog, so he wasn't ready until 12 hours after I dropped him off. On top of that, he wasn't given the cut I requested, and worse yet, they cut the webbing in between his toes. On the second visit (I was trying to be generous), he went for doggy daycare, and while checkout took forever, it was an overall pleasant experience that my dog seemed to enjoy. On the third visit, I decided to give their grooming service another try. This time it took 13 hours to get my dog back, and again, they didn't get the cut right. I had left very specific instructions about what I did not want cut, and those instructions were disregarded. They called to ask if they could shave him rather than brush/cut some individual matts out, and the woman on the phone was semi-rude when I requested they try to avoid shaving him. While I recognize that shaving would be easier, I don't want to pay $95 for a shave job I can do at home by myself. I offered to come pick him up so that I could do the shave myself if that's what would actually be required, and she changed her tone and became much nicer. I hardly ever write reviews, but I have just been so disappointed by my experiences. I wanted to support a local business, but I think this third visit will have to be my last one. The people have been nice (in general) and are good with the pets, but for the prices they charge for grooming, I expect to have a more acceptable experience.

My dog LOVES going to the Shaggy Hound. She wiggles and whines in excitement when we pull up to the driveway. I also love that they let dogs run around together all day, which isn't typical of boarding places around here. It's clear they care about dogs, which is great.I don't love the prices there ($25 a night to board our dog, $12 a day for daycare), but I'm willing to pay them since our dog loves it so much. They were cheaper at one point, and we would go all the time, but ever since they raised the rates, we've had to cut back on daycare.I recommend the Shaggy Hound for boarding and daycare!

Well this vet is actually amazing. It’s the fact that they do not board certain breeds which is biased and unfair.. Rottweilers, pits, American bully’s , and some other dogs. When if you are a vet you should be the first to know that any breed of dog can have a bad personality. The breed of a dog cannot support that they are dangerous that is outright crazy. They cannot say well we don’t do it because it’s the rules. No other vet has that rule? So this has to be a rule made by the owner. We should all be encouraging this place to fix the discriminatory rules against certain breeds. The rules should be the same at every vet. I love This vet and am extremely disappointed to hear that my dog may not stay with them.. :(

My nearly 14 year old dog, a long haired dachshund, loves the grooming at Shaggy Hound. Other groomers make him skittish, but he is well behaved and happy at Shaggy. You mention the grooming manager's name and he's wagging his tail and ready to get on his way to her.

We have discovered Shaggy Hound to be a home away from home for our dog Pixie. I think the truth about how well dogs are treated is demonstrated by how a dog responds when it arrives somewhere....ours can't wait to get in the door at Shaggy Hound and she runs straight back to play with her friends. All the staff know our dog by name and she loves them all. Sweet people who genuinely care about each and every dog that walks through the door. Thank you Shaggy Hound!

The staff was really nice and provided information that I needed for my puppy Coco. The staff also made me feel welcome and came to my rescue, because I was afraid of a spider that welcomed me at the door. I was so impressed with the facility and the care that was given to Coco during his stay there. I would recommend Shaggy Hound to a relative or friend.😀😀😀

My dog is 15 yrs old and the staff came out to the car and commented on the condition of his coat. (Reason he’s getting groomed) I explained that due to age and health reason (seizures) he foams and slobbers out the mouth. She asked did I have meds with me. I said no it’s preventive meds so they will not stop a break through. She instantly said I don’t think we can treat him. (He’s a regular so I was lost) manager walked to my car and without asking what took place instantly says I don’t think we can treat your dog and restates the above reason (seizures) . I said if your staff would have fully listened to details instead of assuming and running off she would have heard me clearly. His health has never been a issue before , he doesn’t have seizures all the time, and I only made the comment when she started questioning me about his coat. Safe to say I will be in search for a groomer that doesn’t make you feel like you’re inconveniencing them by dropping your dog off

I love shaggy hound. Everything about this business, from the facility it's self to the workers, is dedicated to loving and caring for dogs. The owner has the biggest heart when it comes to our four legged friends and wants nothing but the best for them. I would absolutely recommend them for day care, grooming, and boarding. Hands down its the best place in Starkville.

Remy (large great pyrenees puppy) has been to puppy play at the shaggy hound and has had so much fun whilst there. The staff interacted with him and made him feel very welcome and comfortable. It's great for the little dogs that there is segregation between small and large breeds; whilst he's used to playing with dogs of all sizes and shapes, he can be quite rambunctious and intimidating to little dogs. Remy gets so excited about going to puppy play. It's a definite positive for socializing your dog in a safe and controlled environment. I would definitely recommend all dogs (that are sociable) to go to the shaggy hound for puppy play/day care.

I've just moved to town and used Shaggy Hound for the first time to get my Boykin Spaniel (Dak) groomed. Kathy and her team are very professional, did a terrific job, and customer service was outstanding. Highly recommend to anyone!!

This place seems awesome with all the services they offer. They need more groomers desperately though! To book a full groom is over a month out. We took our dog just to get her nails cut. They do a shampoo and trim hair around paws with a nail cut but they did not mention to us the dry shampoo they would put on her but we thought it was a nice perk...until 4 days later when I finally concluded that my dog had been plagued with diarrhea all over the house for the last four days because of the dry shampoo and bathed her. She went right back to normal poops the next day. We tried everything shy of taking her to the vet and were out of ideas when I finally thought maybe it was the dry shampoo. At least a warning that the dog might be allergic or asking if we wanted it would have been great.
