One of the most unrecognized and unappreciated agencies in Jackson County. A friendly and cooperative staff, with folks like Ms McVeay, I went their 3 times and we selected "Harvey" a large black and white young adult dog, part Lab, who had been abandoned and there for over 3 months. He was easily housebroken --- shakes hands --- and retrieves balls ---and is very affectionate to those who care for him ----everything I could ever ask for in a dog ---- and some!

Thank you all for being so helpful with adopting our new beautiful Pit Bull Duncan and making it possible to have our fur baby a new home. All of the staff here has a passion for their animals and take the time to spend with them while they find a new home. We will forever be grateful for you all and Duncan Thanks you for the opportunity to have a forever home with us.

I visited the shelter every couple of months to drop off needed food for the dogs and cats there. I dropped off some dog food last week because their need is so great and these animals need a home even if you cannot adopt an animal you can volunteer and just as important you can donate food blankets, pet toys but most of all just to say hello to those lovely little dogs and cats

Donated bathroom rugs, patio chair cushions, bath towels. You do such a great job with these animals and I'm always happy to donate whatever you need. God bless you

Friendly staff, great prices and a clean and well maintained facility. Definitely exceeded my expectations and I'm glad I chose this shelter to adopt the newest member of my family. This shelter along with many others across the country are experiencing a surge in pet surrenders, causing them to be over capacity. If you're able to, please donate pet goods, money or your time to help animals in need.

This place is a wonderful option if you’re wanting to adopt a pet, which I encourage everyone to do when thinking about getting a pet. I got the sweetest baby orange tabby several months ago, and I was told I could bring him back to be spayed once he was old enough/weighed enough. Before bringing him in, they failed to tell me that there was active ringworm going around the shelter. When I brought him home after the spay, he stunk so bad, like nothing I had ever smelled before. He would fill the whole room with stink. I don’t know what they did, or where they put him after surgery, but I shrugged it off and gave him a bath after his incisions closed. As time passed, I noticed a strange spot on his ear. Went to my regular vet and sure enough, it was ringworm. A friend of mine told me that one of the staff let her know they had a ringworm problem when she recently adopted a kitten herself, and that they were treating the animals. I just wish they would have told me it was spreading, or I wouldn’t have gotten him spayed there. It’s now spread to my other cat, and both are having to get medication now, and their skin looks absolutely terrible. In addition, a tech at my regular vet used to work there and informed me they place them back in dirty crates after getting a surgical procedure. Do NOT get your animals spayed here, only adopt, and get treatment elsewhere.

Not good at trying to help a stray dog. All they did was keep passing me to the (wrong) sheriff's department. I called the first time to give info on the dog so they could pick her up. Told me they would pass it to their animal control officer. Two hours later the dog was still not picked up. I called again. This time I was told to call a different sheriff's office that their animal control was gone for the day.I called the sheriff. Dispatch told me they don't pick up dogs unless they're aggressive or actively trying to bite someone.Offered to bring the dog to the shelter. I was asked to bring her in the morning since they closed in 30 minutes. I explained that we couldn't keep the dog to bring it in the morning. They were still open for 30 minutes. It wouldn't have taken but 15 minutes or less to get her to the shelter.I checked local Facebook pages to see if anyone posted about a missing dog, but found nothing.I get shelters are full (they all are all the time), but it's very frustrating to keep getting passed around and not getting anything resolved.

Great prices, sickly kittens, but it's a shelter. They actually took the time to let you play with the animal first and see if you liked them. They were very helpful. I prefer this shelter over the Gulfport one.

Lots of emotions attached to this place. They're doing the best they can on the tiny budget they've got. Lots of awesome adoptable cats and dogs here looking for new homes. Please stop in here and adopt a pup before buying from a breeder.

We had a great adoption experience here. I came in with my husband to look at the available dogs. After walking through the shelter, we made a list of who we wanted to meet, along with dogs we didn't see on the floor but saw on the website who sounded like they could be a good match. The man who helped us with meeting the dogs was super patient and knew the dogs well. We were at the shelter meeting dogs for over an hour, because we wanted to be thorough and make sure we found the right dog to fit into our family, and he didn't rush us at all. By the end of our visit, we adopted a very sweet adult dog who seems like he'll be a perfect addition. Thank you for all your help!

We found 4 kittens along the side of the road. We called for help. Their answer was “we have no room try back later in the week”. I asked “is that it” and the young lady said “yep”. No advice, nothing. Glad to see our tax dollars at work and now I know why these kittens where on the side of the road… pitiful

Nice and helpful personnel. Animal shelters, however, are generally very depressing places. If there were only more responsible pet owners, the shelters wouldn't be full, and the people working there wouldn't get burned out from dealing with what other people carelessly left behind. Spay and neuter your pets for crying out loud and dont dump them or leave them behind because you "have to move" or "don't have the time," etc etc. If you dont like them, fine, but please dont hurt them! It's disgusting. I'm a rescuer myself, and we reacuers are tired. So are the shelter employees. But we'll never stop what we do! Do better, care, and don't treat your pet as disposable things. They're not!! They are a commitment for the duration of their entire lives. Just like a marriage, for better or for worse. If you can't handle that, get a stuffed animal.I love rescue & shelter folks for their dedication, and I am honored to be a part of it

They weren't impolite but their help was minimal. I figure they don't know any better or they don't care. I've given approximately 30 years to the customer service industry and believe me if I was their boss I'd be extremely angry at their emotional(lack of) presentation. When someone inquires about volunteering the simply response "we aren't taking volunteers right now is inadequate to say the least. " The shelter is full and I can't get a surrender date for an animal in need for 2 full months!!! So really? It seems strange to me but maybe I'm wrong what do I know.

One week ago today, I adopted little Harvy (now called Roland), a mixed breed boy. I needed a dog to help me with my PTSD and he has already worked wonders. The staff at the shelter are friendly and professional and the dogs are very well taken care of. In the case of Roland, he was already housebroken and crate trained. He's very happy in his forever home. He likes walks around the block, stalking squirrels and playing with his stuffed fish toy.The long and short of it is, I could not be happier and I have these people to thank for that. Adopt your dog, don't buy them.

WARNING!!! Do not take your animals here!!!They are absolutely terrible and this place needs to be shut down. These people are too incompetent to do the simplest task and the negligence is fatal for the animals. Their lack of care is disgusting. Go to HSSM if you're looking for an animal shelter. At least there the animals have a fighting chance.

Upon entry at the Jackson County Animal Shelter in Gautier, I noticed the staff workhard at keeping the facility clean and organized. The approximate 4 month old puppies (3) we brought in were evidently abandoned. Right away the puppies were given meds to prevent them for spreading or getting a disease. The puppies were treated with kindness. On what I witnessed, on a scale 1-5, I would give the staff a 5.

Super amazing and helpful staff! We were helped by James, and I can’t remember the great lady’s name at the desk. We brought our dog we have had for a while to do a meet and greet, and felt like we were being a pain cuz we kept wanting to meet different dogs but they were both very nice about it. We ended up finding our perfect match, which we probably wouldn’t have seen if James hadn’t brought him too us since the pup hadn’t been there long. I am super thankful that these wonderful people helped us so much!

Staff was friendly & helpful. Cages & environment was clean. Unfortunately the kitten I adopted is costing me a fortune in vet bills. Internal parasites, respiratory infection, ridden with fleas that I can't treat due to his small size. Very costly antibiotics. The paperwork stated he was 4 months but the vet said not a day over 6 weeks. Slowly getting him to eat & hopefully healthy.

I found myself in a heartbreaking position late last week. I'm elderly and became to weak and medically sick to care for my very loving and active 6 month old puppy. BECKY I can't thank you for everything you did for my baby. I'm still crying today but I have realized that it would have been unfair to try to keep him. He needed to run and play.Becky you Are an Angel 😇 thank you and God bless you abundantly... from Minister Carroll

This is a terrible shelter and need different people in there they do not care for animals they are heartless people that don’t deserve to work in a shelter they are not always full and they never answer and try to help so if you see a animal in need you better off leaving it or try to take care of it better then to call these people.

Was at soccer fields. Ohenominal facilities. One improvement would be adding shade to the area. People bring umbrellas and personal canopies, but that blocks the views...
