A nice park, I would call it the lake park. Great veiw of Lake of the Woods. A picnic area with nice beach area not fancy though. Trails are ok but not great. You come here for the lake view.

The beach is definitely beautiful but needs some cleaning. It would be good if the dried wooden branches amd sticks would be raked/gathered from the beach area. Maybe the picnic shed needs a touch up or maybe put up a new one like that found in Lake Bronson Swimming beach. I would still go back to Zippel Bay.

8/9/23. Zippel Bay is all about the beach. I had visited before in June and there were lots of flies. However this time in August there were no flies. White pelicans can be seen skimming the waves and a group of them were on the wall leading out to the Coast guard lights.

Park has a nice lake access with the marina and swim beach. Unfortunately high waterbof 2022 has destroyed the trail from the beach to the bay. Plus it is difficult to beach comb since the long sandy shorelines are gone. Park is beautiful and has great views of Lake of the woods but MN really needs to add some better services too this place. It really needs better campgrounds with bathrooms, trails, and day use area. Right now it mostly just a place to day swim and fish.

One of the best state parks I’ve camped at. It was not crowded and I felt like it was my own secret getaway. We stayed in the Anglers Loop. The beach was great also. Only downside is I wish we had a boat with us to enjoy the lake more.

This is a great state park with a beautiful beach, nice trails and quiet campgrounds. Best blueberries too! Lake of the Woods has excellent fishing also. We started coming here when our kids were young and now we're coming with them as adults and our grandchildren!

Love this state park. Fish cleaning and marina included in the camping fee. Where else do you get that for less than 25 dollars a night!

Clean restrooms, info board. Walked out a ways in the water and still not to deep for a child. It's a state park so I did stop at location and paid a 7 dollar day fee. Just filed out a card and dropped my payment in a slot provided so if staff is not around you can still be legal. Boat ramp, campground site wield life viewing all available

Great place for fishing. The hiking trail along the beach is awesome. Not much else going on, but the rest is more than enough.

It was beautiful! The trail was a little challenging to navigate with a stroller, but we made it work. The lake flies were pretty awful along the trail in the trees, but they don't really bite, so more of a nuisance than anything. It was still worth it, and a fun outing with the family.

One of my favorite places to swim in all of Minnesota! You can walk out in the super soft sandy bottom lake nearly a mile with depths ranging from 6" to 4/5'. Perfect for lounging in a floaty all day! LOVED IT! We didn't spend any time checking out the park, just the beach.

Beautiful park with good swimming beach right on Lake of the Woods. Lots of flat grass walking trails. Gorgeous campgrounds, but unfortunately no electric sites. Tons of blue berries and raspberries in the park.

Beautiful park ! The beach is absolutely amazing - white sandy beach & very clean. Of course there are washed up shells, sticks & other natural thing ... But it is a State Park & that is Nature. Nothing that will hinder a long walk along the shore! There are 3 campgrounds & surprisingly not busy at all. We had 2 tents & found our original spot small. The Ranger happily let us switch - she was very friendly & helpful. If you like fishing there is also a great boat launch area.

Great swim beach! It's too bad the fishing pier is broken,it looked nice. The boat launch is fantastic. All is well maintained and clean.

The lake is great! The campgrounds are definitely rustic. The closer to the lake the more rustic they get. A bear got into garbage in the campground and made a mess. There are no bear proof garbages (a metal can with a rock on it doesn't count).

In went ice fishing in Zippel Bay by the fishing pier. 13 inches of ice where I was fishing. Pulled a sled out. Had a few bites a.d had my line snapped twice, most likely by northern pike. Nice warm day but very windy.

One of my favorite state parks! Beautiful beach and great fishing! The water was very warm! From the marina you can watch beautiful sunsets! Please note that none of the campsites have electricity.

Our family camped in the Birch campground in early August 2023. The site was very private with lots of established trees and enough space for our large tent, screen tent, and vehicle. The facilities were plain but extremely clean and well-maintained. Park staff were friendly and took great care to keep the park in good condition. The lakefront on Lake of the Woods is very picturesque, too. Would recommend this park for anyone who enjoys unplugging and relaxing in nature.

Beautiful campgrounds, only downer, showers are a mile or more from each of the 4 different campgrounds. Very spread out, which made it nice for biking and hiking. We did probably 10 miles on the trails on Sat. Bummed we ran out of time (due to rain and storm clouds) to walk the beach to the lighthouse. .

A beautiful place for a walk on the beach. Shallow water for swimming. Fun place to bring your dog. Usually pretty quiet.

Great park, campsites are nicely spaced. Hasn't been very busy on either of our trips, Birch campground. Anglers campground may see more traffic.

Had a great relaxing day at the beach. Sandy bottom lake with some sections of rocks. Walk carefully over the rocks. It's not too bad. Most of the area is sandy. You can walk way way way out and still touch bottom.

Beautiful state park that is located on the southern part of Lake of the Woods with a very nice boat launch to the lake.

Since there hasn't been a review in almost half a year, I'll give some details on the park's condition as of 6/30/22. The lake is beyond full, and the eastern access point is totally underwater. If you want to see the lake you need to drive straight up the road. The south loop trail has some tree branches on it that you might have to work around, but other than that, you will be fine. The trail runs outside the park on the south side and is very wide because it is used by snowmobiles in the winter. The trail system at this park isn't very connected, with most of my hike being along park roads.
