5/5 Every cat we have gotten from this place is a keeper. They are friendly, work with you, and provide all the information that you need. Strongly recommend this place.

The staff are amazing here! You can tell they're passionate and knowledgeable and look out for all the animals in their care. I took a look at 3 dogs while I was there and they let me offer the dogs treats. They gave me enough information on the dog's temperaments, training, and interests to determine that none of them were the right fit for me. That being said, I highly recommend checking this shelter out! Your furry best friend might be waiting for you there :)

I saw a dog on their Facebook page and immediately set up an appt to meet him and for him to meet our other dog. Charlie is an awesome dog, so glad that we found him. The staff is awesome; helpful, friendly and they work hard for these animals. We've donated stuff to them in the past, it's nice to be able to save a life too.

I got the perfect dog for me from here. They were great with introducing her. She is a very timid dog and came all the way from Texas. Works out well that she enjoys the heat since two years later we are going to move down south. She is my emotional support and visa versa❣️😎 Thanks again WCHS❣️❣️

They have been recovering from a few shake ups in the last few years.. New staff coming and going. So many animals need their forever homes. If you're interested, i believe volunteers are needed and welcomed 😊

I just can't believe all of the smart, well behaved, Adult dogs there are here. I wish they would all be adopted by good families. The place is clean and the staff knows all of the dogs' personalities and can probably match you up with the right dog if you share your wants and needs for your next dog.

Great place. They really care for their animals. Many animals are in foster homes so they don't have to be at the Humane Society the entire time.

My husband and I adopted a kitten and were told that they would set up the spay when she was old enough. The time came and they wouldn't answer the phone or return our calls. We had her spayed and paid for it and they refused to acknowledge us or their contract.5/8/22 After contacting WCHS and providing them the documentation they requested for proof of spay, I was told that there would be a refund. They were very apologetic and stated that they're under new management. It's been a month and we've received nothing. Seriously, one month after the response left on this, a phone conversation and it hasn't been fixed.5/10/22 I stopped in to find out where my reimbursement was and was handed $100 straight from a purse. She explained that they are working 12 hour days to fix the prior mess that they took over. Thank you WCHS for taking care of this and I wish you the best.

Rather than Sheila giving me a courtesy call to save the 1 1/2 hour drive and leaving work early, which I advised her of when making the appointment, she told me after I arrived that another person placed a hold on the pup. When I mentioned I just drove an hour and a half the response was.. “well, you didn’t place a hold”. Well, I am not ok with placing $50 for a pup that only has a photo, has no info, no health check and wasn’t even at the facility when I made the appointment especially if it is nonrefundable regardless of the outcome. I will take my business elsewhere. Clearly animal interest/match is not priority, just what money they can bring in.

I recently visited this shelter with a family member and had an all-around bad experience, despite adopting the dog we came to visit. Firstly, I hope their money goes to their animals, because their facility/office space leaves much to be desired. It’s dingy and cluttered. There is no separate room for meeting pets; you meet them in the entryway/lobby/office. We had to sit on the floor to meet with the dog we adopted. All of this could probably be overlooked if I’d been impressed with the staff’s service and knowledge, but I was anything but. The staff were completely unprofessional. They didn’t welcome us when we arrived, they ate food at their desks, they swore in front of us, using the F word, and calling other dogs “b*tches,” and their first words to us regarding the dog we were there to look at were: “You know he’s a fear-nipper, right?” I totally understand that you have to be transparent about a dog’s issues in order to place them in the right home. However, they didn’t have a single good thing to say about him. And most of what they told us turned out to be wrong. It was also clear they didn’t know much about dog behavior. In hindsight, most of the problems they said he had probably stemmed from being in a crowded shelter. They leaned over him, spoke loudly and rudely toward him, and even admitted they were afraid to kennel him for us. Crystal, who I believe might be the manager there, was worst of all, unfortunately. She talked down to us and talked down to her coworkers in our presence. Most of my questions for her were answered with non-answers, or I was told to look at his paperwork. Overall, super unhelpful and discouraging. Maybe my expectations were too high for a small-town shelter, but I was definitely disappointed, regardless.

I would not recommend buying a dog from there. We bought one and lasted only a month and they wouldn't do nothing about it

We decided to get a cat. My son described the perfect cat. We found it online at the Wade a County Humane Society. There was a cat room you could enter and see and pet all of the cats, but she was not in there. She was in a separate room because she was recovering from a surgery. We fell in love. She was snuggly from day one and has been for 3 years now. The staff was helpful and friendly with the pet adoption process.

We had high hope's when working with this Humane Society. We were working with them to adopt a cat who was being cared for by one of there foster parents. We were very excited because we both grew up with pets and have been without one for some time now. This was also especially exciting because the breed we were going to adopt is hypoallergenic and one of us has allergies. Here is were things get messed up. We live 2 1/2 hours away and were going to make the trip to pick the cat up from the foster parent. The day before we were about to pick the cat up we decided to call the foster parent to see if we could pick him up early, she didn't answer. Not to much time later we get a call from the humane society saying the foster parent decided to adopt the cat??? They claimed that the foster parent as first dibs, and is given 72 hours to decide if they want to keep the cat. Fine, but we were not made aware of this when we put money down on the pet to hold them till we got there. What's the point of putting money down for a hold if it's not going to make a difference? Also if your going to do that it would be a good idea to let the families wanting to adopt know before hand. Also the only reason we found out he was adopted is because we happend to call the foster parent and then the humane society called us. They claimed they called my girlfriend the day before but she had no record of it or messages in her phone. Needless to say we will not be working with this humane society again.

Very welcoming and easy to talk to. Everyone is passionate about animals, making sure they have a forever home. Although I drove 2 hours and 45 minutes, it was well worth the drive. Highly recommend to anyone!

I was hoping to bring two cats in that showed up at my place a few days ago. But they didn't have room. Which is understandable it's the middle of winter and most people aren't looking for outside cats. I was able to be put on a list for those two cats, that hopefully they will have room for them in the near future. But right now they gave me a couple gallon size bags of cat food; which is awesome since I didn't have any for them! Thank you!

Was there a few years ago didn't like it. But a friend suggested just to go there to play with the kitties. This time they were out of their cages and in a room so they could actually interact with each other or with someone. While I'm an animal lover, I do have a very distinct preference for cats. So I didn't go in back to see the dogs.

I tried to adopt a pet and called to put in a hold. Someone called me back, said that I can't put a hold on the pet yet, because it will be available for adoption in 4 days. Two days later I got a call that the pet was adopted by someone else. That's too bad, I was going to also leave them a sizable donation once I adopted the pet.Instead, I'll look for a shelter where the team members are communicating better.

The staff and volunteers at the Wadena County Humane Society do a fantastic job. We adopted two puppies from them and they were very healthy and very well cared for. They made the adoption process go very smoothly. They communicate very well.

I would recommend Wadena Humane Society to anyone searching for a new furry family member! They do have a foster home program for the animals, which is what helped us decide to adopt Max! We were able to learn he was great with kids and pretty good with other dogs too!!

Maybe my experience was different due to the new guidelines during the pandemic; it was a bit difficult to get everything in order to adopt. I understand they can only do so much with the staff on hand but there was a lot of inconsistencies with the information I was receiving. Nevertheless we were able to adopt and the end result turned out great.

My companion Dexter crossed the Rainbow Bridge, and I donated his things here. I support them via Amazon Smiles, and when I'm ready, this is where I will find another dog.
