I brought my dog in with sore leg, he tested + for Lyme. Half way thru treatment I told them Boone's leg wasn't any better and I asked if they had done athorough exam they said yes and told me I could find another vet. Hundreds of dollars later leg no better because he had a blown out knee which could have been discovered with a thorough exam. Now he needs expensive surgery.

Brought my healthy dog in for a routine dental and she was dead the next day. At the pre surgical the veterinarian was rough, rude and cold. I should have listened to my gut and not taken her back. I paid over $1000 for her to kill my dog and take no accountability or show any care. I’ve heard bad things about this clinic and unfortunately learned the hard way. It’s worth the drive to Duluth for safe, clean and caring veterinary care.

Critter Care really cares! After my girl was spayed they called me to let me know everything went great and that she was in recovery. When she came home later that day, I had already been instructed what to do and not do for her as far as eating, drinking, activity level etc. I was asked if there were any questions I had for them and what to do in case something happened. They called the next afternoon to check on her and again were very caring and thorough. I highly recommend Critter Care in Virginia, MN.

Critter Care in Virginia is the worst vet clinic on the Iron Range. The clerical staff is incompetent. I've been trying to get my kitten spayed since December, if you know anything about female cats, they go into heat when they feel like it.. My cat is in heat every other week.. During this time I've set up multiple appointments, every one of them being pushed to another week, vet's a family emergency, the COVID shutdown, and/or my cat being in heat. Today was the last straw, I had an appointment 3 weeks ago to get my cat in for a blood panel, an exam and a urine culture, it cost me $245, which is fine if my cat is healthy. However, my cat is still urinating all over me and my house, which is telling me I need to get her spayed, so I made an appointment for such (again), on the 22nd, I explained to the clerical staff that I would like her to be spayed and vaccinated, as she had already had an exam and blood panel. When she went into heat following that appointment, I called and emailed them asking for a sooner spay date, they set me up today, 4-15, upon arrival I was informed by the vet tech that they would be doing a stimulation to get her out of heat, which I explained that she wasn't in heat and why I needed her spayed, but was informed that they couldn't do the surgery because "that's not what I was scheduled for." With the gas, the exams, the vaccinations, and spaying, I'm guessing total payment would be close to $800. Don't bring your pets here, the incompetence will kill your sanity and probably your pet.

Even though the appointment had to be rescheduled from a previous date, everyone was very nice and the appointment went better than expected.

You always do such a good job with Kip! Even though he never likes getting his nails trimmed the vet techs there always get them done just right and never cut them too short. Kip and I really appreciate everything the staff at Critter Care does for us, not just his nail trims. Thank you!

Very helpful and caring staff. Took the time to explain everything including the prices. No hidden fees. Used to go to the other vet in town years ago. They were just in it for the money & were very ruff on our animals. I saw this first hand.... Critter Care is the BEST!!!!! I would give 10 stars if I could. Thanks so much!!!

I will forever recommend Critter Care and Dr. Tuominen to anyone.Every interaction was excellent, from the reception staff being pleasant on every phone call, to being greeted at the door when we got there, to meeting with the techs/Dr., all the way back to scheduling the next appointment. Everyone was knowledgeable and kind. For just shy of 5 years, one of my my dogs has been very anxious going to the vet. It got to the point where he wouldn’t accept treats from anyone (including me), he paced, panted, & pawed at me while waiting, sometimes he vomited while waiting or peed while being examined. The second a vet walked in the room, he would start trembling and crawl underneath a chair. My dog is familiar with Dr. Tuominen outside of her practice, so I’d wanted to bring him to her for a while to see if it would help. The first appointment was like a complete 180. He was far less nervous, accepted treats from HER and me, laid down without a fight, and approached her several times and got butt scratches (his favorite). While his behavior change was huge, the way she handled him and the whole appointment was even better. We sat on the floor with my dog while she explained all of our options as well as the whole process that could happen if some of our options didn’t work.I also can’t forget to mention the fact that my other dog cut open a paw pad (pretty deep) a couple weeks before her initial appointment here. Dr. T took her in and stitched her up for me and her paw pad looks as though nothing happened to it!Prior to this appointment, I highly respected Dr. T as both a vet and instructor, but after these appointments, the respect I have for her is astounding. She handled my nervous dog perfectly, and the level of information she provided was amazing.I trust her with my dog’s lives, and I couldn’t be happier or more confident when I say I made the right decision. 💙

This happened a number of years ago, but I'll never forget it and I'm glad to finally be able to leave a review for these wonderful people. We were visiting family up north in Cook with our lab when he suddenly developed bloat - a completely life-threatening condition in which the stomach twists and becomes blocked at both ends, causing gas to build up in the stomach until it basically explodes. It was a Sunday afternoon. We called a vet in Virginia who told us to come to the office, but it was just a tech and she couldn't do surgery. She told us to drive to Duluth, but at least she did insert a needle and open syringe into his side to help let a little of the pent up gasses out. This dog would never live to Duluth. I kept calling phone numbers and reached someone at the emergency number for Critter Care Pet Clinic. I believe it was the vet herself. Her clinic was closed but she told us to meet her there and then she dragged an entire surgery team into the clinic with a few minutes' notice. We were five or six miles away, and by the time we reached the clinic, she and members of her team were pulling in. Our dog was in agony. She told us to say what was potentially goodbye forever to him in the lobby because she said most dogs would die from the shock of built-up toxins when having their stomach untwisted. But she promised to try. It was harrowing. Our dog survived the surgery, and they sent us on out way with some medicines and sub-cutaneous fluids and basically told us to pray because it's nearly unheard of for an animal to survive bloat, even with surgery. The price for all that on a Sunday afternoon? Ridiculously underpriced. These are people who care about animals - they could have charged us thousands but didn't. Our dog lived a long and happy life after that and even though this was quite a few years ago, I will never forget the compassion of this clinic staff and the gift of our dog's life that they miraculously gave back to us.

I had to get my little bunny neutered. They all knew how nervous I was about this (he weighs less than 2lbs). They call me to make sure that I was aware of the risks and to make sure that neutering was the best way to go but they also really showed they cared about him and explained everything they do to keep him safe. Everything turned out great! He's not spraying anymore, he's a lot less territorial and we can get him a little friend. I would definitely recommend Critter Care. It doesn't lessen the risk for bunnies but it helps when you know that your vet cares!

Excellent service!!! Critter care is the best! While camping in Indus on Rainy River unknown to us our pup ate a corn cob one night and started throwing up the next morning. After calling all around and getting told no Vet could see us or help us Critter Care's Vet Tech took the time to walk us through what to do since we could not get into a local Vet. (The Ely Vet Clinic 3 hours away was willing to see us after hours.) Otherwise everyone else told us to drive to the Animal hospital in Duluth 4 hours away. Critter care saved us😍

They were not currently accepting new clients so signed up for waiting list & heard back within a week. Even though they are short staffed they got my kitten in right away so I could start his vaccines & hive him a good start. This appointment was a month out which was fine but then I noticed he had ear mites so called after the weekend & they got my kitten in that week. AMAZING! His ears are now feeling so much better just a few days after treatment & he is on his way to a happy healthy life!Thank you Critter Care!

After COVID-19 began stopping non-emergent surgeries, we became desperate to find a place that would spay or neuter before our female went back into heat. Critter Care was able to get our male in so quickly! They were so nice! They kept me updated during the procedure since they knew how nervous I was about it. And when we were about to leave, they called and told me that an animal had come in that was suspected of fleas and they took care of the treatment even though we had already left! Then they called the next day to check in and see how my boy was doing! They were so nice and considerate throughout the process and even checked up on him! And the price didn't break the bank. Definitely recommend going to Critter Care, even if you don't live in Virginia! I don't!

My husband and dog were in town for a hunting trip. Our dog, Abe got a mouth full of quills from a porcupine. We called another vet in town and they told us to go to the emergency vet an hour away because Abe was not a patient. Critter Care got us right in for a very reasonable price and great care for our baby. They were so accommodating and so nice. Thank you, Critter Care!

We went there and our dogs surgery done to be spayed. They told us everything was covered. Then she got an infection, after follows all the instruction. No play, no water, minimal dirt (as shell need to go to them bathroom. We ever went to the extent of cleaning everything in the house vigorously because we didn't want n infections. She still got one. But initially we didn't know that when she got sick, and they took an x ray after scaring the hell out of me by saying she may have ate something nd it got stuck in her intestines and may need another surgery. I understand going over all the measures but wait till you actually have something to scare the owner with. Anyways, they took the xrays and then took out her stitches, and said when they did the infection was seeping out from her stitches, so the only way I can thing of her getting the infection is from the operating room itself. And preceeding they had me pay for the xray which again, I understand. But then they had me pay for the antibiotics shot that was $95 and im 99.99% sure the infection came from them. So with our dogs surgery and shots, that was 755, now another 200 for the xray and antibiotics. Then today we went to get her booster shot so we didn't have to start her distemper shots all over again, they told us one shot to begin with, and then now she needed two. Which is fine because I want my dog to stay healthy. But again, they told us everything was covered with the first payment. It wasn't, now and behold another 85 dollars. I want my dog to be healthy, but I won't be lied to and charged more than what I'm told anymore. For any of our dogs further treatments we will be going to see another vet. I drove an hour to come to you guys. This is bogus.

I had an urgent need to have my Golden retriever, Gabby's, hot spots treated. The staff got me in the same day I called. They were all so helpful! They treated her and gave me meds and treatments to take home for her. I highly recommend them!! Great all around!!!

I had an Emergency with my puppy. Called them they called back right away. They were friendly & Told me it would be about $250 maybe a little more. That’s fine! I get there when they’re done my bill is $575 and to come back in 3 days. Get home and she’s bleeding they cut her quick. Ok day 3 they check her cast and charge me another $30. 7 days later it started smelling. I bring her to her reg vet and the nightmare started. She had a big pressure sore and from the tape they stuck directly to her fur causing moisture to build and her skin was breaking down. The cast was free of any water damage that could have come from outside. It was so bad that when we lifted her fur it was coming off in our hand. And the smell when they removed the gauze was Terrible. I will NEVER go back there again.

So far I have had no trouble with them. Last visit our dog had sliced both front pads while in a run. She applied whatever it was n wrapped him up. He's running around like nothing happened. Sorry I don't remember her name. Want her to know how happy King n mom n dad are. 😊
