Best place to stop for any camping equipment you may need while on the North Shore. I’ve rented kayaks from them for years. They have great rental equipment and are very helpful with making sure you know how to transport your canoe or kayaks.

I used Sawtooth to rent a canoe and pick up my Boundary Waters access permits for a trip to Hog Creek with my son in July. They were helpful in the planning phase as well as making our trip easy and enjoyable. They also have a great store for last minute supplies and its nicely located close to a general store and restaurants if you are craving a meal when you end your trip.

We were in the area and didn’t bring our gear with us. We didn’t want to mess with hauling kayaks this year so we stopped here to see what they can offer. We only took a day trip into the boundary waters but this place set us up with everything we needed. The staff was extremely helpful in picking out a lake to paddle on, the right gear, maps, etc. If you’re going into the boundary waters, this should be your first stop.

Great place to rent kayaks from. They mount the kayaks to your car and teach you as well. Good price, recommends lakes to visit, and very friendly staff!

Unfortunately, our guide injured himself, and our tour was cancelled. However, we were able to rent a canoe for the day. The staff was great to work with and we were given recommendations of different lakes to choose from. The who are is beautiful, and a day on the lake in a canoe was perfect.

We've used Sawtooth for partial outfitting (canoe, portage packs) several times and have been satisfied with the service. They also have a nice retail space that offers outdoorsy items.Located on the way to the Sawbill and Gunflint Trails.Keep in mind that if you rent one of their canoes, they give you those cheap plastic/metal paddles (I'd recommend bringing your own, if you have one).Their cancellation policy is kind of rough, but I did need to cancel on short-notice once due to a death in the family and they were flexible, which was greatly appreciated

Had the “pleasure” of needing to stop in and get my bike fixed (too many things that should have been tight were not). A few minutes later, the kind folks fixed me up and I was able to finish my ride.Oh, and lots of high quality outdoor gear. So if you forgot your layers, boots, paddles, fishing equipment, bike parts, hammocks, etc. they’ll hook you up.Thanks Sawtooth!

Rented a couple of mountain bikes for a day to do the Jackpot trail nearby.Staff was terrific, with good advice — and maybe an appropriate amount of concern? — for some beginner mountain bikers.Equipment seemed top notch and prices seemed reasonable to us. Really nice stuff in the retail store. Didn’t check closely but probably not the place to get deals 😆.They said they weren’t staffed to do a Lutsen shuttle. Definitely call ahead to check before fixing that in a plan. Web site is also pretty out of date (talks about trails under construction that are long since finished).

Fun place. If your into outdoor fun this is a great store. Lots of everything. Kayaking stuff, hiking stuff, backpacking stuff, biking stuff and outdoor clothing. They have alot and staff are very helpful. They have kayaks and bikes rentals to male it a full service outfitter. Also a bunch of camping equipment and hiking food.Friends have purchased a double kayak and had great service on the sale. I have bought a lot of clothing and parts over the years.Stop in and see them. Their clearance is just inside the door! Enjoy.

I was happy with this outfitter until this year when 2 days prior to outfitting with coanoes I asked to upgrade from a 2 person conoe, to a 3 person canoe, and they said yes but I would be charged $66 for canceling the 2 person canoe...what, why!?, I'm swaping with a canoe you don't have rented out for more money into your business. Not sure if this was the owner or just a young worker not understanding the situation. After some pushback, they said they would, but made it seem like they just didn't want to argue amd were doing me a favor. I've never asked for an upgrade and been charged a fee for putting more $ in their pocket 🤣.

Sarah and Adam were very helpful with cross country ski and snow shoe rentals! After my experience I ended up purchasing a set of snow shoes. Not only did they apply my rental fee towards the purchase, they delivered them and I had them the next day! Friendly staff and great service. I highly recommend using them for your outdoor needs!

We have been in the market for a new canoe for awhile so we were thrilled to see they had 1 Spirit II left in stock. We rented one for the day to try it out. Jeff and Sarah spent A LOT of time with us answering every question. We ended up buying the canoe and Jeff got us all outfitted. Outstanding service 👏! Truly nice people. I've been here numerous times over the years and have had hit or miss service. They rent great gear at reasonable prices and a feature good selection in their store. To be honest though, I haven't had great experiences with the owners themselves. On a recent visit, they were dismissive, a little hostile, and unwilling to help us with a problem we were having. The two workers that were running the registers were the ones that actually solved our problem. They had a great idea and it saved our trip. I now take my business up the road to Sawbill outfitters and they are amazing.

Rent your canoe/kayak here and haul it up to the Boundary Waters! They are much more reasonably priced than other outfitters. Friendly helpful staff will secure it to your vehicle. Their apparel and camping gear is also reasonable for any items you forgot.

Very impressed. Rented a two person canoe for a 4 day trip to the BWCAW. The workers at Sawtooth were super easy to work with, helped secure the canoe to our vehicle, and gave us great advice about the best way to get to our entry point. The price for everything was very reasonable and they have lots of options to make your trip as convenient as you want it to be. Would definitely use them again!

A wonderful outfitter located right on 61 in Tofte, which is convenient location to pick up gear for any Tofte/Gunflint/East-side entry points.Our group procrastinated till just a week before our trip to reserve a couple canoes & bear pack, and team was able to squeeze in our last minute gear request with no issues. Incredibly helpful with understanding differences & pros/cons to the different canoes & gear to select. Excited to use going forward for our annual trips!

Love Jeff and Sarah and the Sawtooth outfitters, they outfitted us for a canoe trip in the Boundary Waters in July and the entire process went really well! The shop sells everything you would need for an outdoor adventure, and rents all outdoor gear from bikes to paddle boards to canoes and kayaks. Great shop!!!

What a great experience! We did the half day gem kayak tour from Tofte to Temperance State Park and back. Our guide Dave was amazing! He was experienced, entertaining, and made us feel safe (even as we got back as a storm came through 😁). I would strongly recommend this! It was me, my wife, 14 yr old, and 17 yr old. Thanks for a great family adventure!

Sawtooth Outfitters is great! They offer a variety of camping gear and clothing for sale and also have a wide selection of gear to rent. I needed a camping pad to sleep on, and they were happy to hook me up with one to rent for a few days.

Awesome, awesome experience. I rented skis here for a ski weekend at Lutsen. It was cheaper than the mountain, plus I was able to buy inexpensive goggles. I was a little nervous because I hadn't been skiing in a long time but the staff at Sawtooth listened to my concerns and got me the right gear based on my preferences. I didn't feel coddled or condescended to. The gear worked perfectly, and I will definitely rent from them again.Also, while I was in the store I noticed TONS of awesome outdoor gear so that is definitely worth checking out.

Excellent business and very helpful friendly staff! I got a flat outside of Tofte on my way biking to Canada. I called Sawtooth and was picked up and shuttled to their store within 20 minutes. They fixed my flat and I was back on my way! Very reasonable prices. I made it to Canada!
