Good stay here while skiing at Lutsen. The rooms were in the process of being renovated...it's always good to see properties that are well maintained. The room was clean, breakfast options were good, and the staff was good. The only knock I have is that the room design doesn't isolate hallway noise from the beds very well...the noise from room doors closing makes its way to the beds easily. Overall, this is a good property in a good location on the north short.

Excellent stay. Conveniently located off Highway 61 on the North Shore in Tofte. Pet friendly. Gas station within walking distance. We were in room 125 and it was comfortable. Room comes equipped with cable TV, fridge, and microwave. The pool area was really nice. The pool water could’ve been a couple degrees warmer but the kids didn’t mind. The hot tub and sauna were excellent. Continental breakfast in the morning was better than expected. Scrambled eggs, sausage, waffles, pastries, fruit, yogurt. Overall, it was a comfortable stay and we would stay again if we need to! Only downside was the price. For an AmericInn $175/night felt a little steep. 5/5

Cozy little spot. Convenient, quiet and accommodating. Adequate parking. Easy access but would be even better if the entrance from the high had some markings, so you wouldn't get mix up with the gas station entrance. Located in a quiet and peaceful community by the north shore. Definitely would return. Very contented with our choice. P.s. Breakfast Station, play lounge, and pool area👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿.

The hotel was fine. I did not realize that there was no elevator. If I had, then I would have requested a first floor room. Breakfast options were a little more limited than some hotels. The area where hot items, juice, etc. was small. More than 4 people made it difficult to maneuver buts lots of seating and a great lobby with beautiful fireplace. Very big pool area and lots of parking. Staff was nice. Room cost was greater, but it seemed that was true of all on highway 61.Nearby activities: There are lots of great state parks on highway 61. Grand Marais is only 30 minutes away and has more food options.

Great location and well cared for facility. Staff works quietly behind the scenes to provide a wonderful hospitality experience. Good hot breakfast with many options, many “extras” like a fire ring, free wood, s’mores kit, 24/7 coffee/tea/hot chocolate/ fruit. Newly remodeled rooms in many areas. Clean pool. Deck with a lake view. Easy access to Tofte Park and Lake Superior. Bug mostly a great staff that actually shows they care about the place.Rooms: Many newly remodeled. Spacious and grateful for a tub option in bathroom. Nice furniture and bed was VERY comfortable. New flooring in many areas.Nearby activities: Lake Superior, of course. Easy 2 block walk to Tofte Park for immediate access to shoreline. Temperance River is 2 miles away (and accessible by bike trail). Carlton Peak access from Sawbill Trail is nearby. Short drive to Oberg Mountain, Lutsen, Caribou Falls, Sugar Cove Nature Center, Schroeder Museum (Cross River Cultural Center), and endless places to access the Superior Hiking Trail. A little longer drive (25-35 minutes) gets you to Cascade River State Park, Tettagouche State Park, Palisade Head, Silver Bay high ropes course (Adventure Park), or Grand Marais. An hour away and you get the Grand Portage National Monument (VERY cool), Grand Portage Stars Park (and Pigeon Falls on Canadian border). Also Devils Kettle (long hike!). So much to see/do.Safety: Seems quite safe— someone always on staff at lobby entrance. Far door requires key entrance. Small-ish hotel consisting of two floors.

I was surprised to find that this hotel is so highly rated. While the location and staff are good, I found the rooms to be lacking significantly. The rooms look nothing like they advertise on the website. Additionally, we tried three different rooms upon arrival and all had either an extremely musty or smokey smell (though they’re supposed to be non-smoking) and all rooms had small bugs in the jacuzzi or in other areas of the room. While I appreciate the staff doing their best to change our room, none of the rooms came remotely close to being up to the most basic of standards. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Convenient location, pet friendly, property was clean, rooms were fairly clean we did find some long white dog hairs on the chair and carpet up agains the walls, and service was good. We enjoyed the jacuzzi in the room, the hot tub and pool, the outdoor seating with a beautiful view of Lake Superior, & the large breakfast selection. We would return again.

It's everything you hope to get from a 2-star property: very clean, solid breakfast, good size pool.Only challenge is, like so many other hotels, they seem to be understaffed. The staff that are there were friendly and efficient, and the hotel seems to have given some thought into how to "self-serve" things that result from a lack of daily housekeeping: easy to get extra towels, emptying trash, etc.Overall, would certainly stay again.

Excellent in just about every respect. Clean. Staff is helpful and polite. A good value for the price, unlike many North Shore lodges. Plenty of hot water. Goldilocks-perfect hot tub temp. Lobby area is large and pleasant. Breakfast is awesome. Neck-craning snippet views of Lake Superior but so what...mostly dark during our time at the hotel, skiing all day at Lutsen. A couple minor nits -- no elevator, so the luggage trollies of little value. Bathroom light switch is outside the door, illuminating the room when used in the middle of the night.

The was a really nice hotel. We loved the location since it was pretty centrally located to all the activities we had planned. There was a nice deck off the pool area that looks out at Lake Superior. The is a decent pool, hot tub, and sauna. There is also a nice firepit area for cooler nights. The breakfast was a nice surprise. They had cinnamon roll flavored waffle batter as well as regular waffle batter. There was lots of toppings for the waffles too. The rooms were clean and pretty standard for a hotel. All in all we had a great stay. 😊

Stayed at this AmericInn as a stop on a roadtrip. Hotel selection along this route is a bit sparse. Hotel was appealing and nice looking. Staff member helpful and despite new computer system was quick in getting us checked in and out. Rooms were nice, contemporary design and clean. Breakfast was nice in that, in addition, to continental breakfast, there were breakfast sandwiches which offered a nice hot alternative, albeit from a microwave. Coffee was really good. Would stay here again.

We choose this location to be close to the state parks on Lake Superior and an hour away from our favorite park -Grand Portage. We did five parks in two days to see the marvelous water falls spring thaw. This hotel is one of the best on the North Shore Drive if you want clean rooms, friendly staff, nice surroundings without over-spending on rooms! Breakfast is average and they have a pool. We loved our room suite with a jacuzzi. The toilet/shower is separate from the sink area making it convenient to get ready in the morning when you have multiple family members.

We chose this hotel because it offered pet friendly rooms and we'd had good experiences at other Americinns. Very nice rooms and staff. Breakfast food choices were good. Didn't use pool, but it looked nice. Only suggestuon that I can offer is that it would be good if the room had a cheat sheet list and directions on how to find TV channels.

We stayed here for 3 nights, brought 2 dogs with us, 3 kids and had.a pretty good experience. We usually try to rent a cabin with dogs, but prices are so high for those now that once we found out this hotel was dog friendly we decided to try a hotel. We called to book over the phone to let them know about the dogs, the price was a bit higher than their website, we assumed it was for the dogs. Turns out we must have clicked on a link that had "americinn" in it, but wasn't them, some non-related 800 number...ugh, lesson learned hopefully. So of course when we checked in we found out the room was not a dog friendly room. The staff was nice enough to work with us and we were able to stay thankfully. The dog fee added another $25 per dog per night. The hotel was centrally located to a lot of the state parks and trails we hit, as well as restaurants we like, so that was good. The pool was nice as well for the kids. No cleaning service though or new towels unless you request it. Breakfast was decent, a pretty good selection of basics to start your day.The biggest issue we had was the room itself. It didn't seem terribly clean, rice and food crumbs under an end table that the dogs zeroed in on immediately. The room also smelled a bit smokey when we got in, even the kids commented on it. We did keep windows open most of the time and it improved. All in all it was a good stay though and will likely check it for future visits, but double checking that phone number first.

A typical AmericInn, but I'd say the lobby may have been refreshed more recently than the rooms. It was pleasant, with a handsome Lake Superior-ish fireplace, comfy furniture, and a bookcase full of games you could borrow. Our sleeping room was blah but relatively functional. It did, however, have several beautiful black and white photos on the walls.Breakfast was fine, with a waffle maker, microwavable sandwiches and omelets, cereal, pastries, and bananas. I appreciated how early it was set up each day.The most appealing thing about this AmericInn was its location near Lake Superior, state parks, waterfalls, and the Lutsen's scenic gondola. The only slightly negative thing is that the staff was helpful but only minimally friendly.Insider tips: The pool deck is a good place to watch the sunrise, and the hotel is the cheapest place to buy postcards.

I would have been happy to have given this hotel a better review but unfortunately the check-out experience sealed the deal for me. Checking in was a great experience! The woman behind the counter was pleasant, kind, and all around enjoyable. The hotel was clean, breakfast was great, and since it was the middle of the week it was extremely quiet with no more than 10 cars in the parking lot. Then came check out.. I had originally booked for 2 nights but received a call from our sitter saying they were unable to stay the extra night to watch kids/pets. Went down to the desk to check out early and explain our situation and a new woman was behind the desk and was a manager of the property. I stood at the desk for close to a minute or two before she acknowledged I was standing there and put her cellphone down. I explained my situation and she immediately got rude with me letting me know that she wouldn't refund the extra night and there was nothing for me to do but to accept it. Now I understand that it is tough for everyone out here still including businesses, but that's just it... It's tough for EVERYONE out here! I didn't expect my sitter to need to leave earlier than intended. She had her own sick kids she needs to tend to right now. I stayed the first day of my stay and was happy to of course pay for that night but not being refunded for a night I couldn't use and then be spoken to rudely left a very unpleasant taste in my mouth. I will not be staying here again and will not be recommending this hotel to family/friends and that makes me sad because it started out as such a great experience. All it takes is one interaction for people to change their minds.

Awesome place to stay while doing the old highway 61 north shore. The staff were so welcoming, the room was great, we loved the lobby, great place to read after a day of hiking the trails, right in front of the fireplace. Thanks again. We will look for this chain in the future when traveling.
