I’m giving 5 stars not based on my previous deli experience as it wasn’t great. However Sydney turned that around and was a breath of fresh air. Asking if I’m a local, or a regular to add a list of daily specials to my bag. Friendly, curious and provided exceptional customer service. I continue to return, and each time Sydney sees me, greets me by name. Always smiling, always friendly.

Vacationing in Nissawa and stopped here for supplies. Surprised at how many GF and vegan items they carried. Awesome bonus is that make their own brats in several flavors; great choices for a cookout!

If you are a fan of customer service I look else where. Better off finding a glacier in the Sahara. At Schaefers it’s your fault you don’t where the deli is and you would have better luck asking the game and fish what isle the tuna is in.

This is a great little grocery store that has just what you need when you are up at the cabin or lodge. It is a little old school and reminds me of the grocery store I worked in during the early 1990's. Their prices were lower than I expected too!

I have been shopping at your store when I come up to my brother’s place in Nisswa Minnesota for several years. I always come in for your muffins and the seafood pasta salad. Nice place to visit and shop. Family stores like this offer a personal gift to a customer. I will be heading north again this year. Muffins and seafood pasta will be on the top of my list.

Ordered a birthday cake over the phone as we were headed that way for a 60th birthday weekend. Honestly wasn't expecting much...it was amazing! One of the best chocolate cakes we have ever had! And it was decorated perfectly.Thank You!

I can't begin to tell you how impressed I am with Schaefer's and their staff. I was in town on vaction when I needed help to send out UPS packages for business and Courtney at the Customer Service counter has gone out of her way multiple times to help me with stranded and returned packages even after I was no longer in town. This was a huge relief to have someone there to help me.

We have been loyal customers for over 40 yrs. Schaffer’s was always know for being pricey but excellent service & meats. The service is horrible now! We bought a loaf of garlic bread 2 days ago & put it in the oven to warm it up like the instructions say. Only to open it up & find out it was never buttered or any garlic applied. Very disappointing.Stopped back at the store yesterday with the defective loaf to exchange it.I was told by the service person o& the on duty manager, it’s a perishable item & they can’t do anything about it & not even an apology for the error. Unbelievable! This is a product they sold as 1 item but was actually something else! That’s called bait and switch! Needless to say we will never shop at Schaffer's again. It too bad to lose a 40 yr customer over a $3 loaf of bread.Update - we had sent an email message to the stores management about the issue as well. Too our surprise we received a response from the owner apologizing for customer service issue & that they will address the issue with the staff & reinforce the companies long history of excellent customer service.Reinstates our long support of the store!Changing the rating from 1 star to 5 stars!

Prices are fair and selection is better than many stores down in the twin cities. We stopped in multiple times this week and they were always friendly and helpful. They don’t let carts into the parking lot so they send a person to help you load. Not really a drawback or a warning, kind of a feature.

The staff are not following MN law and only wearing face shields, without masks. The shields may protect the wearer, but they do not at all stop the wearer's droplets from getting all over the food and other items I was buying. When I mentioned this to both the staff members and the manager they were both incredibly RUDE and actually hung up on me on the phone later. It is clear Shaefer's cares more about what is easy rather than what is safe for their staff and customers. I have previously shopped here and loved their donuts/pastries, but I will certainly never be back, and I would hope no one that cares about their health shops there. Lord knows how they handle raw meat or other sanitation issues if this is their attitude!

We ordered catering items for pre wedding and after wedding events. We were extremely pleased with all of the food and the presentation of it. We ordered a meat and cheese tray and veggie tray for a luncheon, and a fruit tray and assorted rolls/breads for a breakfast and everything was presented well and tasted fantastic and fresh. The price was very reasonable - would highly recommend!

Seems to be the only grocery store in town. If you need an item or two it’s convenient. Definitely wouldn’t do my whole shopping here. It’s expensive AF. They cater to tourists mainly.

This establishment allows their employees to wear face shields instead of face masks which is against the law - the executive order in place by our governor. The cashier, only wearing a face shield, coughed on the receipt before trying to give it to my husband. It was very disgusting especially for a grocery store. When I called the store manager to complain, I hadn’t even gotten out what had happened before he hung up on me. Think twice before shopping here - if this is how they act during a pandemic, I can only imagine e what goes on in the back, the deli, the butcher area, etc.

Nothing has changed. I tried to give them one more chance several days ago, walked in and promptly saw two people without masks checking out and the checkout staff wearing shields and no masks. I walked in one door and out the other. I don't understand why they aren't taking the Covid pandemic serious. They've lost a 25 year customer.

I have never written a review before, but thought I had to for Schaefer’s bakery. They did beyond amazing for my daughters birthday cake. I discussed what I wanted over the phone, but wasn’t too sure on what the outcome would be. I can be a little picky at times. When picking up, I was shocked to find the details and realistic features of this horse cake. This cupcake pull-apart compares to a higher end bakery. (At least one my opinion) Well done, and thank you to whoever decorated it! Everyone loved it!

FYI - NO Employees and few customers wear masks. Particularly concerning for employees working in deli area who are slicing and preparing salads and take out food not to have masks. Have given them our business every summer for 40 years. Went to Cub in Baxter instead today. All employees wearing masks and most customers. I will be shopping at Cub the remainder of the summer because I feel like they are making an effort to follow CDC recommendations.

Very disappointed that staff is NOT required to wear face masks nor is there plexiglass between checkers and customers. When I asked the manager why the staff wasn’t wearing masks he rudely responded that it wasn’t required and they could choose. I said I’d find another place to shop he rudely told me to be his guest. We have always shopped here but not now. We will drive into Brainerd.

I think it's a great place to shop. They seem to have anyting that other Giant grocery stores have. The staff is very friendly and just seem like nice people. They bag your groceries and they have Carry Out Boys. How nice is that.😊😊

The people who work at Schaefers are always friendly and helpful. Local tip: deli department makes the best take and bake pizza... must try the chicken wild rice pizza. They also make a mean burger. You'll want to call ahead as it usually takes 15-20 minutes to make.

Food choices were great. Young man that helped take groceries to car needs to learn a few things. My back cargo space was full so we had to put in back seat. He places 2 bags on sezt... one in front of the other. It was so close to edge several items fell out onto the floor. Cottage cheese rolled under front seat. Luckily lid didnt come off. He then put them back in bag and left it in the same spot. I told him to place on the floor so it wouldn't fall off seat again. When I got home I had a bag that had my feta cheese olive mixture from deli in and it had topped over and all the oil had leaked out onto everything else in the bag. This bagger needs more training. It is a nice service you provide .

This place is my favorite lunch spot in town. They always have the great deli and fried chicken options, but they also have daily specials that are delicious for a cheap price with pop included. Highly recommend this place if you love food like me!

Schaefer's "Soft N Good" breads are no longer "Soft N Good" - you've changed your recipe - the bread is not soft like it used to be. It also is like it was raised too long making it less condensed. Is this equal to other products that provide "less" quantity, in order to fool the public that the price is not raised? Is your recipe change a money saver to you? Give me back the "Soft N Good" breads I've always purchased.

Super small town grocery store! Friendly staff, pretty much anything you might need for a weekend, and they still carry out your groceries! As for the breakfast in the deli... Bacon bacon bacon! I stopped here every time I'm in town

It's a great place. I am there everyday, like literally. Great deli, speaking of it, I'm waiting for it to open right now!! Great place!! Recommend it to everyone! Great management, great service outstanding quality, could ask for more :)

After reading reviews I was hesitant to shop here however I was just there and every employee & customer I saw was wearing a face mask. Here on vacation & was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the fresh produce as well as the friendly, helpful employees

High priced for a grocery store but average prices for Nisswa I supposed. The best part is the lunch specials at the deli, way better than Cub or SuperOne

Not only did I receive rotten hamburger from Schaefers foods that was completely browned on the inside, but I saw employees mix old and new deli salads together, so customers have no idea how old the food they receive really is. My advice, drive into Brainerd. It may be a little longer of a drive, but at least you won’t get food poisoning.

Giant meat and seafood sale October 19 - 21, I'll be there. Schafers has alot of food items other stores don't. Great meat dept. and very friendly helpful staff.
