We adopted our first family pet from here ❤️ Front desk staff were both very helpful and welcoming. The gentleman that helped us with the adoption was also very kind and helpful and gave us all the information we needed for our new dog. Highly recommend.

Faith, from your Animal Control team, is one of our city's heroes. I submitted a request online early this morning when I discovered a rabbit was stuck in our fence and dead. I didn't want our dogs to get at it and panicked. I fully expected after submitting the information online that I may not hear back for a few days (and by that point, my husband could have taken care of it), but within hours, Faith showed up and took care of the situation. She was much braver than I. Thanks for the important work you do, Faith!

Nice place to get a pet and you can also surrender your pet as well. I went there and I adopted a puppy and they even waved the fees, they even have a program to help low income families get a pet. They give you all kind of resources and the staff is amazingly friendly and informative. I'm glad we got our pup there she was up to date on all her shots and microchip as well. Thanks guys, Trip and Kiki D Aka Finesses

They stayed open late for everyone who had arrived by 4pm, but the woman behind the glass was dead set on ruining our day. She claimed we had to have proof of rabies vaccination, for our other dog, before we could take the adopted pet home. This isn't stated anywhere on the website and the volunteers said they'd never heard of that rule. We went home without our new friend.

I called Minneapolis animal control on a weekday to verify that they were open and that Simone was still available. I was told yes. I said that I was on my way down right now. I said I would be there between 20 and 30 minutes. When I arrived they were closed. I called again. Now I was told they had a Saturday adoption event and when they have a Saturday event they close for a few weekdays after. This is not on the website. Also on the website it said they were open at 1 pm today. I told the lady I was speaking with what I had been told earlier and explained that it is a hard drive for us to go through downtown Minneapolis to get there. Additionally, I work until 5 and they only open 1 to 5 weekdays. I made a special trip as I wanted Simone. My Siamese died April 3 and I am having a hard time with it so I wanted to adopt and spoil another Siamese. They have no Saturday hours. The website does not list Saturday adoption events or I would have gone on Saturday and not a weekday. I asked if there was anyway I could get her that day and was told no. They are closed. I asked why I was told they were open and that I was disappointed and that given my work schedule and the difficulty of driving it was not an easy thing to just come back another day, as she suggested. Maybe most people who adopt there have no jobs and live near animal control. Additionally, there was a hostile volunteer walking a dog. Even though I was not in front of the door he barked for me to move away from the door so he could enter. Did he think I was going to storm the front door and take Simone or something? I feel that they should only have knowledgeable people answering the phone. I cried because I was sent on a wild goose chase by someone who did not care a bit. They should do better with the website. Hostile volunteers should not take out their bad day on someone who made a special trip for nothing. How would they feel? I believe they should have made an exception and let me pay for Simone and held her until I could get there again in a couple days as a courtesy. They would not because sending people running on wild goose chases does not bother them in the least. Of course they made sure someone else got Simone. Thanks Minneapolis Animal Control! If the situation were reversed how would you have felt?

Giving a huge shoutout to office villa (I believe) he was such a great person and was super understanding on why we couldn’t keep the cat that we found! If you ever need to surrender a cat he is the officer that I would totally trust! Thank you again MAC!

The COVID cat adoptions process was wonderful! It took a few days to get an appointment but once we did we were taken care of from start to finish! Thankful for all their help and great advice :)

When I came to visit the dogs the staff here were so friendly and informative! Lauren Parker at the front desk was beyond friendly and helpful with letting me take the dogs to the private rooms to visit. For a kenneled environment it was very clean and while there I saw multiple staff members taking the dogs out on walks which was great to see them all not just sitting in their kennels the entire time.I love how much they update their Facebook page as to promote and update everyone on their available dogs and to find fosters. For what they are provided they are doing an AMAZING job!

I adopted a dog from here a year ago. Best decision I ever made. Max is the best companion I could have hoped for. The process was simple and fast. I also just registered him for his license this year and they pretty much took care of everything over the phone. I will be coming back for another addition to our family! Thank you for my precious gift, he has improved my quality of life. Adopt!

As a foster for a local rescue I had a great experience visiting MACC.My husband and I showed up to check out a couple of dogs, two that were available for adoption or rescue and one that was rescue only due to her temperament. The facility itself is clean and the animals were well cared for. They even had a dog in their office because she was having a difficult time after being surrendered, so sweet. The volunteer that we were with was there for a play group and we got two see two of the dogs outside playing, giving us a chance to really understand their temperament. We ended up taking the rescue only as she really seemed to need to be in a home. The staff was all really friendly, especially given that the environment might not always be the easiest to work in. Definitely a great experience.

Yesterday I called for advice when my 15yo companion cat died at 2am. The person I talked with was very helpful. She arranged for an Animal Officer request for her cremation. Within an hour the Officer called for the best time to be here. She's a kind, respectful, compassionate person. I truly appreciate the processes in place for our pet family members.Thank you.

We are beyond in love with our adopted girl Gimme. She had been at the shelter for quite awhile when we discovered her. She clearly had excellent care, was clean and friendly. Telia was wonderful to work with and answered all our questions. The process was an all-around great experience. Highly recommend an adoption from the Minneapolis Animal Control.

Very rude (Alex) he stated that since I'm outside the city of Minneapolis he could not help me which I understand.I explained that my daughter is in the city of Minneapolis and could handle the matter from her home in the city.He refused and was eager to end the call. I asked if he had any suggestions for me as far as shelter for animals. He told me to call the police but the MN Humane Society suggested that I should call these guys. I'm sure they didn't realize that there is a very unprofessional employee there! (I could tell he was having a bad day) this is my very first complaint online but feel its necessary as an attempt to prevent this guy from doing this again (Maybe he's the CEO he acted as if he could be in charge not sure ) when it's really all about the animals!!!!

I think there may be two sets of reviews here for Minneapolis Animal Control. My review pertains to the pet adoption portion as I haven’t had to deal with the Animal Control side.I’ve never visited this place until a couple of weeks ago when I came across their pets on petFinder. It’s a nice facility that didn’t smell and wasn’t too loud. There were volunteer staff available and pointed up to the small animal room which was clean and again, did not smell. We visited with the pets and ultimately didn’t adopt that day. I did return a week later and adopted a small pet.I appreciated the clean cages. The volunteers and staff was extremely friendly, and Teela (Tealy?) provided us with as much information she and the other front desk staff had or could provide. They were non-judgmental and happy to see a pet find a forever home. I will most definitely consider adopting from them in the future.Thank you for all you do for the pets!I know the animal control side is no easy task and I feel for others that have those experiences.

We had an amazing experiences at MACC. Previously we adopted our dog through MACC; and we recently went to reclaim the dog of a deceased family member. The employees were helpful, kind and sympathic during what could have been a stressful and painful situation. They made the process as smooth and simple as possible. All employees we interacted with were wonderful. The facility was very clean and well maintained.

Absolutely the most awful experience with this dept. I was interested in a dog that was posted and when I called about him they told be he is a transfer only meaning he could only be released to a rescue group and was not available to the public. I was told I couldn't even come in and see or meet him. I was going to contact one of their partner rescue groups but when I checked last night he wad no longer pictured so I assumed he must of been transfered to a rescue. I called today to see which group picked him up so I could contact them and they would not release that info, said I can look up the groups they work with that are listed on their website. I looked them up and there are about 30 groups listed most of which don't have any phone numbers. I have never butt heads with anyone like Mpls Animal Care and Control. I truly got the impression that their main intention is to have these animals destroyed, NOT HELP THEM FIND HOMES!!!! I had checked on another sweet looking dog a few weeks ago and she was on transfer only status as well only because she needed her teeth cleaned...really! You couldn't let someone adopt a dog knowing they need a dental cleaning? She is no longer posted so if course I don't know if she was rescued or destroyed because she needed her teeth cleaned. This infuriates me, someone should really look into this dept and see what us going on here. I have never talked to more stubborn, unhelpful people in my life. So sad for these poor animals.

they promise will not kill my cat until get our permission, but just after 2 days, our cat has been killed without contact us and they lie to us that our cat has been taken cared so well. Until after half month, when we got back here, we found out the fact that our cat is missing

Animal Control: My dog got out of the house and bit a stranger who approached us aggressively while I was trying to rein her in (her escape and ability to attack a neighbor of course due to my own idiocy) and animal control arrived. Jenna Wasche was the responding officer and was beyond kind and informed me of the entire process. My dog's rabies was expired so she was taken for a 10 day quarantine and was extremely sympathetic and patient while I cried and clung onto my dog before I loaded her into the van. Jenna apologize even though she did nothing wrong and focused my attention on how soon I would see my dog again soon and promised that she would be taken care of. When I picked my dog up she was happy and healthy (and very excited to come home). The front desk workers were extremely kind and helped me lower the rates since I make under $40,000 a year. Overall a traumatic experience improved by the kindness and understanding of Jenna and the other workers at Minneapolis Animal Care/Control.

I have adopted all of my pets from animal control. For those people who are mad about prices and behavior problems....wake up. Keeping the lost or ones given away by their owners costs real money. Or don't you ever take your animals to the vet? They feed, give shelter, try to tame some aggressive behaviors, vaccinate, and give medical care. And you want all that for free? The new owners train their dogs not the employees at the shelter. Where would these animals live...in the street? That would be a problem. Everyone I have dealt with there has been very nice.

One day i was out looling to buy a dog from a breeder since my min pin had passed away 6 months prior of old age. On my way to the freeway i decided to stop in at the animal control center to take a look , not to buy , just look out of curiousity since i had never been in the place. My niece was with me and said to me. " oh auntie , you dont want to buy a dog from here, you want one with papers, Here you dont know what youd be getting auntie you dont want a stay mutt." I explained i didnt intend to buy, just wanted to look. We went inside, the staff at the front desk were very egger to help us. We asked could we see their dogs. We were told we could and were let into a large room with kennel. It was very clean and didnt smell like i had exspected it too. We looked at 3 dogs of differant ages. The 3rd one we looked at was very excited to see us and kept kissing me through the kennel. So we opened the kennel and i went in to play with him while my niece went to ask if we could talk him out of the kennel. They said we could and gave use a leash and showed me a room i could take him in to play. After awhile my niece said we should probabley get going. I talk to the staff and asked a lot of questions. Im a eldet of 72 yrs. The dog was a pit bull of 1yr 5 mos.tho ive owned dogs all my life , big and small, i had never owned a pit bull. The staff asured me the had watched the dog and i inter act and that he was a perfect match for me. So i decided he was going home with me. It was the best choice i ever made. The dog is now 3 yrs old, and the best friend ever. I would like to commend the staff at the Mlps, Animal Control Center on how egger and helpfull they were in helping me to decide to adopt not shop. Also on the fact that that send out reminders every year to ensure that the new owners are keeping up to date with the shots and lic. This helps keep the animals safe and healthy. I think all animal control centers and sheltters should follow up like this. They also gave me info on their list of trainers they recommend. And are very polite and helpful if one has any questions after adopting , anytime. Im so sorry i waited so long to adopt. I will be a voice for these animals as long as i live from now on . I will encourage ppl to adopt not shop from now on. I thank you to animal control center for your help and good work. I reluze you are not a shelter and can only keep these animals a limited amount of time if not adopted. This is why it is so importand for ppl to adopt and help you and the animal control center save a life .Thank you again . He is the besy dog i have ever owned and didnt cost me not even half what i would have costed me at a breeder.

I usually go to their physical location to renew our Mpls licenses and dog park tags. They are very helpful and the shelter itself keeps improving with new dog runs and a cleaner, bigger space. The few times I've called 311 to report a loose animal they have responded quickly.

We had a great experience with Mpls Animal control. They helpd us find a cat that would be a good fit for our home and the application form was simple. We picked up our cat by appointment - she came with a spay, was vacinnated and de-wormed. It's a very affordable way to adopt.

Awesome place to adopt a pet! Got two cats, an adult and a kitten. The staff were really great, the facility is very nice and clean, and the process is easy (though not quick).
