I recently visited this place because a couple of people I work with were talking about it. I was telling them about a different place that I take my wife to from time to time, and they asked if I had ever been here. They said "You should check it out, it's pretty big."...pretty big?...It's huge!!!When we got there we barely knew where to start, but it didn't matter because there was so much to look at. All of the employees that we encountered were very friendly and helpful.When we came here we had no idea the scope of the place, so we did not plan enough time to really take it all in. We are definitely coming back soon (and earlier in the day) so we can fully explore everything that this place has to offer.

If in or around Minneapolis area, Gertens is a must. Not just a greenhouse/garden center-it is a destination for everybody. Plants, gifts, garden supplies, toys, puzzles, apparel just to name some of the offerings. Customer service is outstanding!

My dad always purchases his tomato and pepper plants here every year. It's always a trust-able spot and always has the best quality (very consistent). We have gotten many trees and bushes from this place as well. The prices are a little pricey but for the quality of stuff they sell, it's worth it. If you're looking for quality this is probably your best bet. Highly recommend.

I normally would give 5 star as I love this place sooo much, but today it seemed like none of the employees knew the answers to any questions I had. The store was packed with people and there were so many beautiful choices. Also great prices on graduation cards and mothers day cards.

I love coming here and it’s always a special trip because I don’t live super close - had a wonderful discussion with a lady in the bird supply area, she was very knowledgeable and friendly with my bird food questions - the layout is very easy to follow - had to ask the little help cart in the plant area and the person was again very knowledgeable and friendly. Highly recommend!!!

Bruce and the ladies down is the tree section where absolutely wonder help. We went there on the hottest day of the year and despite the weather being awful & humid! Bruce walked every aisle with us. Had a great sense of humor, helped us pick out our canned peach tree 🌳 and several others. After our extensive time in the heat. While we were inside paying for our trees Bruce had them wrapped up and helped us load them. I've always loved Gertens. But, yesterday's transaction was great and needed a review. Bruce needs to be paid more for putting up with customers like us. 🤣🙃

I love walking around Gertens to check out all of their plants. They also have great deals of succulents and house plants when you can catch the deals. The only thing I can say bad about this place is the parking on weekends. It’s a madhouse! 😝

This is the amusement park of garden centers. Wear a hat and comfy shoes. They effectively curate the selection for seasonality and durability. Look for the "scratch and dent" lot for discounted plants that are restocked all the time and have damaged or overgrown specimens that are a good bargain.

What a delightful place! I drove over an hour to shop there because of being able to see variety and inventory online (their website is slow and needs some work) but their physical location is great. Plants are categorized by type and alphabetized with large signs. It made it very easy to shop. Their plants are in great shape and their prices were lower than my local nurseries, so it was worth the drive. I’ll definitely be back. Their selection of plants, garden supplies, decorative items and even outdoor furniture was excellent.

Update on the plants:I am adding a new picture (third on right) but as you can see I still don't have active blooms on them. I do have two that bloomed but the others were duds. I am so disappointed and have replaced them with Snapdragons from our local greenhouse.Normally we are so happy with the plants we get from the Gerten fundraisers but this last batch was really disappointing.I plant snapdragons every year in honor of my 10 year olds passing. My son's school had a fundraiser and I decided to get the Snapdragons from Gertens.At the same time I bought Snapdragons from the Farmington Greenhouse. The ones from Farmington were already in bloom and less expensive. From the photos below in the second one you can see that they have been really doing well.I am not sure what is going on with the Gerten ones. There is one bud on one flower but there are no buds and no hint of flowering. I checked with my mom as I sent some home with her, but she is having the same problem. We are not even sure that they are Snapdragons.I am disappointed. This is a very sacred time of year and my daughter's memorial garden is precious to me. I am going to give the plants another week and if they don't seem to want to flower I will go back to the Farmington Greenhouse and get some more snapdragons from them.UPDATE: I spoke with Gertens directly and they say that my flowers may be late bloomers. I am a bit doubtful as there is only one plant with a bud out of the whole flat, but am giving them the two weeks promised and then will revise my review if they actually bloom. They sent pictures of their Snapdragons and mine don't look the same so now I'm wondering if I have an entirely different plant maybe? I will still need to replace their flowers but since they are potted I will just be moving them to my sunny backyard.As for the price, I do understand fundraisers are expensive, but taking out the fundraiser the flowers still cost more than locally and the quality is equal.

I did NOT know places like this existed! I would guesstimate this place sits on 20+ acres. It's like the nursery for Disney World! If you can't find what you're looking for here, it doesn't exist or hasn't been genetically modified/created yet.Bring your walking shoes!

We went here to get seeds to start the garden. We come here often for garden and flower needs. They have a huge selection and lots of staff that is good. They are overpriced for a lot of things like plants and pots but have the most. Also they don't allow my dog so it sucks . Not bad though oh and a side note They cut to order xmas lights which is cool and we have done that here

Even during May when it is so incredibly busy they have to set up a dozen extra temporary check out lanes, the staff at Gerten’s are always happy to help you solve your garden problems. They are quick to help and knowledgeable about what plants might be best for your space. All of their many many annuals and perennials are healthy, clearly labeled, and ready for planting!

Excellent variety of trees, both bare root and potted. Currently waiting for more apple trees to show up but otherwise they have most fruit or decorative trees. Their fruit and vegetable plants are incredible with their variety. From golden raspberries to apricot trees are there to make a tasty backyard treat. All their staff is very knowledgeable. They walked me through proper bird feeding with the bird flu currently happening in Minnesota which was amazing. I highly recommend this massive nursery, but if you can avoid the weekends you will avoid most of the crowds.

Having spent quite a lot of money at Gertens over the past couple years, my most recent visit was extremely disappointing. I came to buy some 9 or 10 inch indoor plant pots so that I could repot some of my plants that were outgrowing their smaller pots. I went into the main showroom and saw a huge square of floor taped off with yellow tape. This meant the pots on the end caps were not able to be viewed other than by squeezing between the shelf and the tape. Unfortunately I picked up a pot, not realizing the saucer was not attached (as it is on many we have purchased there). I broke the saucer so went to customer service to apologize and let them know. The woman was very abrupt and said 'what do you want me to do about it'? Well, I was just being honest and letting her know. I explained how difficult it was to see the pots with so much of the area taped off and not passable. She told me I should go to the annuals greenhouse if I wanted pots. I did this and they had no pots the size I needed. Worse, they were bringing in a ton of trees and plants that had just been delivered so I couldn't get close to pots without becoming trapped in the store. It definite felt like I was being an inconvenience trying to shop that day. It's a 30 minute drive from my home and I will not be returning, largely due to the rudeness of the staff member. I stopped at IKEA on the way home and found the pots I needed at less than half the price of Gertens small 7.5 inch pots - then went to Home Depot for the potting soil.

First time shopping down at Gerten's was a success! I was wanting a unique pom style evergreen tree and found a perfect one! I had a lot of questions about how to plant and care for it (and other plants I was purchasing) and needed to find a knowledgeable person to ask. The first person they sent to help was I think sent to help move a tree, and that wasn't the help I was looking the at the time. I found an older gentleman named John sitting by a kiosk under an umbrella, and he was beyond helpful! He knew all the things and patiently answered my multitude of questions. We're 52 min away and we were worried about getting the funky topiary scotch pine tree home carefully. I talked to Geno about delivery and they're delivering everything we bought tomorrow for $59. Feel like that's a super fair price as we would've had to drive our gas guzzling truck and trailer instead of the lil car like we took instead. We def bought way more than we intended - they had way too many beatiful plants! Wish we lived closer!

Gertens is a landmark of landscaping needs. It has now been converted into a rather expensive Christmas ornament Boutique! I went in for grass seed, which is still available in early November. Staff is very experienced, and very helpful. The one year guarantee on all plants and trees is helpful when living in Minnesota!

Amazing selection of plants...annuals galore. Supertunias (petunias you don't have to deadhead...supposed to spread 2') $3.79, callibrocha in more colors than I see other places $3.79, colorful giant-leafed coleus pk of 6 $7.99, vivid, strong, healthy zonal geraniums $3.79...just a few of my purchases. Reasonable prices for good product. I have never had a plant of theirs fail me.

Historically, we have had good experiences, but this year the Christmas tree experience was not good.After picking out a tree and paying for it, we came back to load it and found my tree was given to someone else, so we had to start over. I suggested we get a size larger for the trouble, but was denied (not a huge deal, but would have won me over for years to come). The worst part is that the tree is already dying/drying out after only two weeks, even though they fresh cut it and it was in water within 1.5 hours.We will likely find another place to get a tree next year.

I have spent so many hours at this place purchased so many plants five of the trees that are in my yard numerous annuals and perennials and have never ever had an issue with a bad plant or anything like that. Indoor to outdoor plants everything is so many fact-filled people at this location I never feel a lack of knowledge from anyone.

A great place to shop for annuals and perennials. They have a wide variety of plants. Might be a little more expensive that your Home Depot or Lowe's garden centers but the choices are far more. This summer (2022) they have loads a perennials that are not top expensive.

My previous visits to Gertens were typically very happy ones. So many awesome varieties of plants, bushes, trees, gifts.. anything you could think of.But this last trip has left a very sour taste in my mouth. Not sure if i will be back. You see, i travel over an hour to visit the Plant-Mecca. I made a special trip to purchase a decorative pine. I chatted with Bruce, and he helped me decide on a hearty tree that will thrive in the cold Minnesota winters. The tree was $229.00. i checked out and was pleased with my purchase, until..The very next day, i decided to go to a local nursery. I spotted my EXACT prized tree. To my chagrin, the price was an entire $100 less. WHAT? My once beloved Gertens is price gouging? It was in the same bucket, brand everything.I have not planted the tree, and if i was closer, i would actually return it. $100 is $100.So incredibly disappointed. ☹️ Do better. Be better.

Always love Gertens! They have such a wide array of different plants and flowers that I could look around for hours. The staff is so knowledgeable and helpful to.
