The halfway stop between the Twin Cities and Duluth. I’ve been stopping here for years dating back to my time at UMD.Service was quick and efficient. Food was tasty and delivered quickly. Staff were welcoming and friendly. On your way out do stop in the bakery and get some to-go items to bring to friends or family.Would recommend

Stopped here for lunch at mid-week-- our traditional order of onion rings, a deep fried walleye sandwich and a patty melt coming out of the badly understaffed kitchen promptly, and up to the usual quality. Then it was off to the bakery, to load up on potica, muffins and rolls, and a variety of breads. The bakery never disappoints, and a word of advice: if the shelf is empty, ask someone to check in the back. The odds are good that there is more of what you want in the freezer!

Tobie’s never fails us! It’s the perfect pit stop between the Twin Cities and Duluth. I’ve been stopping here for years. The staff is always very friendly. The food is great as well. I highly recommend this for a destination place as well. It is worth the hour drive from the cities.Don’t forget to get a cinnamon roll, or caramel roll. You won’t be disappointed. The Tobie burger is great! That is my usual go to for lunch.

If you're traveling through the Hinkley area, take some time and stop at tobies. They have a great selection of baked goods. Try the restaurant it has a good selection of breakfast and dinner meals. Stopped today we had the walleye sandwich and a New york strip they both were cooked to perfection. Also, they have really good bread pudding.

The donuts and bakery items are amazing! I do wish they had dairy free and vegan options though. Bakery items are the best for miles around. I would recommend the cinnamon roll, the Carmel roll, the maple long John, and the custard long john.Vegetarian options: The restaurant does not have many vegetarian options.Dietary restrictions: They do not have many vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, or dairy free options.Parking: Pretty good parking. Sometimes hard to find becuse so busy.Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendly

Food was delicious. I ordered the chicken salad croissant and my husband had their Ruben. Bread was fresh and fries served nice and hot. Unfortunately the service was not equally as good. Took 15 minutes between ordering our drinks ( soda pop) to order our food. After our food was served no one came back except to give us our check. My husband’s pop long gone. No offer of water or refill. We left and went across the street to get some more drinks for our journey.

This is obviously a popular place, and it's easy to see why. The restaurant itself is clean and well-appointed, the food is good and reasonably priced, and the staff are pleasant and helpful. I'm a bit surprised that they aren't open a little earlier in the mornings, but that's life. It made a convenient halfway-point stop on our drive from the Twin Cities to Duluth, and it was a great breakfast place. Their caramel rolls are no joke - don't miss them.

Updated 2024 review:Stopped in for some breakfast and had the cinnamon roll french toast and some coffee, great way to start a gloomy Sunday! I was able to snack on a little Denver Omelette that my partner was willing to share, that was tasty! Our waitress was super nice and efficient! I love stopping here!Original review:Great place to stop on your way up North or on the way back to the cities, especially if you have a sweet tooth! I love that there is a bunch of MN gear!Parking: A lot of parking, including for oversized vehicles and Tesla charging station as well.

Absolutely the BEST fried cinnamon rolls I’ve ever had!!! The ones with the nuts on top. I’ve been trying for years to find a donut that resembled the one the of a bakery I worked at when I was in high school. 13 years later I’ve finally found it!!!! But that’s not why you should stop. You should stop because it is absolutely the best place to stop on the way between Duluth and the twin cities. The restaurant connected to the bakery is also a must try for breakfast. My dad said they have the best burgers but the breakfast was so great!!! Also the gift shop is just filled with unique stuff. I’d love it more but I will say it’s a bit overpriced. Ok a lot over priced, but that’s fine, just spend your money on the donuts and rolls!!!!

Only a hour & 15 min drive from Mpls. & St. Paul, Tobie's Restaurant is the place to go to get out of the city.Good food with a decent & friendly atmosphere! It is a great halfway point between Minneapolis-Saint Paul to Duluth!Make a pit stop here while you're traveling, and you won't to be disappointed!Stop by their restaurant for some American cuisine/home cooking. And find out why their bakery is so well known!Any of the stuff I encountered were always friendly, engaging & helpful! No one stares at you like you were an Alien from a different planet.. (some customers did, but that's their problem!)Whenever you feel like leaving the city, for a day Trip? Make sure you take the time to stop at Tobie's!They also offer:Car Wash.Gas.Ice cream (mini) shoppe.Caribou coffee.

I heard a lot about Tobie’s and this was my first hand experience trying during my recent visit to Duluth. It was perfect midstop on my drive route from minneapolis towards Duluth. Where i indulged myslef in savory cinnamon rolls, pecan pie and coffee. It was awesome and lived to its reputation. I was so hungry i ate the whole dessert myslef. Tobes serve their special brewed coffee, i had picked mine from caribou at filling station next door. Overall i loved the place, it was full of people and staff was very nice and courteous. They have restrooms as well and souvinier shop attached to the bakery section.

We chose this restaurant for my birthday meal this year and we will definitely go back. It's rare I actually leave an all 5 star review. We were seated very quickly and had a table near the bar. It was quiet! Our waiter was amazing! Super friendly, checked on us frequently and gave us great service. Our food came very quickly and was delicious! Thank you for making my birthday meal a memorable one!Parking: Very large parking lot

Always love coming here! The last time we were there, we had the server named Kyle he was very prompt, friendly, and very accommodating. We were one of two families in the restaurant on a Monday night around 8:00 p.m. food was fast, and really really good! The atmosphere is a darker quieter place which I prefer over the cafe area by the bakery that they used to have as a seating area but now is a gift shop. Great place to take your family to have a great meal

I hadn’t been to Tobies in years. Looks like they have been doing well as it’s basically a tourist destination half way between the Twin Cities and Duluth. The steak and eggs was as one would expect from a diner that serves a ton of folks a day, but it had the price to match at coming in under $20 including caffeinated beverage. The eggs were cooked with some oil that I wasn’t a fan of so only took a bite before leaving the rest to hopefully avoid indigestion. Overall satisfied with the protein offering and if you wan t reasonably priced food definitely stop in.

Stopped here for breakfast. Could have gone to Hardee's breakfast and enjoyed more. Food took quite a while to make with really no one in the restaurant. When it did finally come out, the eggs were completely burnt on the bottom, omelette had minimal flavor and needed to be doused in salt for flavor and the prices were high for what we got. Spent $40 for 2 omelettes and water. Not at all what we hoped for breakfast and will not be stopping again. Very disappointed.

Tobies is a road trip institution. Whether you're headed north toward Duluth or south toward The Twin Cities, you stop at Tobies. They're famous for their Caramel & Cinnamon Rolls. In the days of old, I am sure there were great. But in today's world where Cinnabon exists, their baked goods are just Ok.If you've never been, it's not a big deal if you don't stop in.My friends and I had breakfast and it was decent.A little on the expensive side but not terrible.I ordered the Meat Lovers Omelet with a Cinnamon Roll ($1.50 extra). It was nice. Truth be told, I wish we had gone to Hardee's across the street.Anyway, it's decent food and a pleasant place to stop for a meal.Parking: Plenty of parking but maybe tough to find a spot of they are really busy.

Local legend for baked goods (especially caramel and cinnamon rolls) and half-way point between Duluth & Minneapolis. It’s almost always busy, but they serve people quickly at the counter as well as in the dining area.Full menu of Breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. Big selection of baked goods, breads, pies etc to take home with you.Servers are great, friendly and efficient. Very reasonable prices especially given nearly everything is homemade.

Tobie’s is a must visit when you are driving through the area. This is a place we stop every year when driving up to Northern Minnesota and it never disappoints. You simply cannot go wrong with any of their donuts, whether it be a Long John, their Famous Caramel Rolls, Cake Donuts, Apple Fritter, Muffins or their classic glazed donut. Highly recommend! 🍩

An update five years later-Three stars for an average breakfast. The cinnamon roll is much better than the Carmel rolls. Neither are as good as Cinnabon. The decor improved from my last visit.Do not even bother with this place for dinner. Based on recommendations from friends we tried Tobies for dinner, since we came to the nearby Casino for a concert. Many raved about the rolls and food. I had the meat loaf and could only eat a few bites. It was one of the worse meals I have had in some time. My son had the tuna melt and it was terrible. We thought the rolls must be better and we tried a cinnamon roll for desert - it was fine and I would have rated two stars because of the rolls, but then we took two cinnamon and two caramel rolls home and our family all had the same reaction - not so great, not worth the price. Cinnabon is far better and so much tastier.

Tobies Tavern, the restaurant portion, on the end. I haven't been here in years. We were here Memorial Day 2021. They seated us on the bar /pull tab side, which is cooler in temperature, so be aware. Full menu. I had 2 eggs, bacon and subbed caramel roll for toast (for an extra $1) so $9.95.and my husband had 2 eggs, bacon, subbed French fries for hash browns, and toast. Very quick service considering it was Memorial Day. Caramel rolls were very fresh!
