This is a favorite shop in Grand Marais! Not only do they have absolutely lovely handmade goods, the staff is truly wonderful, as well. On our most recent visit to the shop, Jamie helped us buy some lovely little teak pieces AND also helped to rescue a baby seagull who had fallen off the roof across the street to be reunited with it's mother. That sealed the deal for us: we love Upstate MN! Thank you for having such a great store and also such great staff.

I have always loved stopping into this shop when I’m up in Grand Marais, but this year I got to bring my 1.5 year old with me for the first time and my husband and I can’t stop talking about how adorable our experience was. We have a veryyyy friendly child, and Kristofer could not have been sweeter or more hilarious with him. While I got to try on pants (which I very happily purchased) my son had a hilarious chat with Kristofer who helped entertain him the whole time. Of course all of the products in this store are very high quality and so well curated, but the customer service is what really swept me off my feet this time. Thanks Kristofer for being so kind and welcoming to our lil guy — can’t wait to come in with him for many years to come! ❤️

Visiting Grand Marais downtown for the first time and it is a nice, quaint town, good for walking around. Upstate is an amazingly modern store that was a surprise in the great North MN. It has handmade gifts, gorgeous attire, beautiful decor, and smells wonderful. I was very impressed. The staff were very friendly, kind, and welcoming. I will for sure return when I drive through this city!

What a great experience!! This is what shopping small business is all about! Kristofer is always excited to see new and returning customers and you truly feel welcome. There are always new items being added and the selection is awesome! If you're looking for a gift (for others or yourself) you should be able to find something here. If not, you'll at least enjoy a great look around and feeling like they are truly glad you stopped in. We try and stop by anytime we are in the area (6+ hr drive.) It's definitely one of our favorite shops! Incredible place and owner!!

Beautiful & thoughtfully curated items. I always find a treasure here. It's my favorite place to buy earrings and I LOVE earrings. The owner is very talented, sweet, and obviously has a very discerning eye. And any place that let's me shop with my doggo gets an A+ from me!!!

We just finished a visit in Grand Marais and this was our favorite store! The owner was so so so kind to our kids (he told them they could touch whatever they wanted and that he wanted them to explore) and to us. He welcomed every customer into the store and seems like such a carefree person. It was my birthday and he even gave me a small candle when we made our other purchases. I'm surprised about the previous reviewer's comments that he favored locals as I didn't get that feeling at all (and I'm not a local). The store had amazing products and I took a card so I can refill my candles and put things on my wish list. Loved our experience!

What a treat this place is! Came through Grand Marais today and stopped in town to check out some shops - we fell in love with a Sanborn paddle and took it home. The proprietor was so friendly and warm, just like you'd expect from up north. Can't wait to visit again and buy more from here!

Upstate MN is an incredible store. What a great addition to Grand Marais! You can tell that the owner takes great care in selecting each and every piece of art, jewelry, and home good in the store. And he is utterly delightful! I went in a stranger and left feeling like I had a new friend. Because I can't make the drive to Grand Marais often, I regularly check out the Upstate MN website because there are so many wonderful things here.
