This was our first time to try Sydney's since it was just the two of us. We walked away last time when we came with our children cause it is pricey for a large family/group. If you want a good meal at a good price then try the Blue Water Cafe only a few blocks away.We did try the large wood fired pizza which was very good but too small for two people. The custard was good but also too pricey- $7 for only one dip. They have roof top seating providing great views of the lake and Artist Point. This was the best part of our experience eating our pizza while enjoying the fine Lake views on a beautiful day.

We stopped by here on a rainy day to grab some pizzas. My husband and I got got a Pepperoni with mushroom and red onions and it was absolutely delicious. My 3 year old loved it even. The crust was flaky and the perfect thickness. I will recommend to anyone to pop by here for some pizza and a beautiful view of the water. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because one of the workers blocked the path inside talking to 2 people I'm guessing were friends and even though I said excuse me twice I ended up just having to go back outside. Pizza was well worth it though!

Their chocolate custard was so good and creamy. It had real chocolate chunks and homemade on site. The wait was a little longer than we liked, but the custard was worth the wait. I wish we would have gotten the pizza next door! Apple Gorgonzola looks so good!!!

Legal highway robbery. Can they charge the prices they charge? Absolutely. Is the food remotely worth it based on flavor, quality or originality? Absolutely not. Choices for quick food are limited because of the remote nature of the area, but this is one place I've been to twice and remembered instantly why I said I wouldn't go back the first time. A single scoop sunday, a small chocolate shake that was mostly whip cream and a pepperoni pizza ran us $40. Grand Marais is littered with tourists so you can expect tourist pricing, but I suggest you spend your tourist money at any of the other eateries that are open. This one isn't worth it.

Custard was really creamy and tasty. I had the turtle and it had lots of toppings so definitely get you monies worth. We didn’t know they also had food otherwise we would of had supper here. The pizzas looked really good.

Great place to order a pizza and sit on the patio or rooftop. EXCELLENT views of Superior. The wood fired pizzas are very originaf and delicious! We had the Barbarian and really enjoyed the unusual combination of Gyro meat, Andouille Sausage, Feta, and Pepperoni. Crust was extremely thin and light enough to compliment the delicious ingredients. Well worth the price considering the quality toppings. Will definitely be back.

Definitely one of our favorite stops we took along our North Shore trip. We almost didn't go because it was getting late, but I was glad we decided to make a quick stop!I didn't have the food so I can't speak to that, but the frozen custard was incredible. So creamy and delicious! We asked the cashier what a popular signature item is and she suggested the Coffee Toffee. The flavor is coffee mixed with Heath bar. The coffee flavor wasn't very pronounced which I didn't mind. Every bite of this was dreamy! I loved that each mouthful had a crunch from the Heath bar.We asked for a small. The servings are much smaller than other traditional frozen custard shops. This size felt more like a kids size for us (see photo for hand comparison). I was kind of sad because my husband and I split it and we ended up finishing it so fast while still wanting more. Haha! I guess next time we will have to each order our own. ;)

I only tried the frozen custard but it was delicious. The mixed berry sundae (lots of actual berries) and "the Rachel" (raspberry ice cream with chunks of Heath bar) were great. Would love to go back to try the pizza after seeing all the good reviews here.

Good Custard, great pizza, friendly service. Made a mistake on order but kindly fixed the issue. A little bit pricey.

This is the place to go if you have one night to eat at Grand Marais. Came here 3 times because we found out there was more than just good custard. Great spot to hide in from a looming storm. Awesome variety of food and flavors that had us debating on what to get.

This is a great stop for frozen yogurt treats as well as pizza. Several choices for flavors and toppings. Sundaes, cones, malts, and Sydnamis. (Blizzard) There is a roof top seating area available with great views of the lake. Cash or credit, but $10 min with credit orders. Open til 8pm.

I love custard! We were wandering around Grand Marais and weren't impressed with the look of the world's best donuts, so we decided to come here instead. This was a great choice. We got a sydnami which is custard with the toppings blended into it. We built out own with bananas, caramel, and pecans with vanilla custard since none of the premade ones appealed to me.I loved it. I will say I couldn't taste any caramel or pecans. It tasted like it only had bananas. Maybe the other flavors were more subtle. The custard was smooth and creamy.I will say, it's pretty pricey. Our medium was $9. It was really good, but I feel like the price is a little steep. If you're looking for custard, stop here.

We caught the perfect day. Our large group of 9 showed up and ordered food and we found seating right away on the roof. We ordered local craft beer in the bar inside and brought it up to our table. We had custard afterward and everything tasted good. The service was great, so we didn't mind the wait for the food.

This is an interesting place by the lake in Grand Marais. There are several places to order food from, whether they're one establishment or several under the same roof wasn't quite clear. You order in one spot, then, depending upon what you've ordered, pick up your food at a different window.I ordered a wood-fired personal pizza for $14.95. It was good, thin crust, with fresh ingredients. Nothing special, but filling for one person. Pricey for what it was. Several others in our party ordered sandwiches which came from a different kitchen, across the hallway from where the pizzas were made. Like the pizzas, the sandwiches seemed rather small for the price--about $8-10. Several in our party got hot dogs, about the only slightly-reasonably-priced item on the menu at $2.50 each. There's an indoor seating area, and an upper outdoor area on the roof, overlooking the lake. Both had good views. The deck was cold, the indoor dining room loud. Pick your poison. You can buy ice cream (custard), salads and beer as well. Overall, fairly good, but over-priced.

I had the vanilla frozen custard and my girlfriend had the Dutch Chocolate custard and both were delicious! Rich and creamy. Reminds me of Culver's custard only a bit better. Like my review of Worlds Beat Donuts, I'm sad this place is all the way in Grand Marais. I'd definitely come back to this place again!

Kinda pricey, but a great stop in Grand Marais to satisfy your sweet tooth. And don't miss the view from the roof! I mean, it's kinda of a hidden gem in that sense.

My wife thought her sundae was halfway descent, but I on the other hand was very disappointed with my “Sydnami”, which is kind of like their version of a DQ Blizzard. I got the “Zanger” and what I received was an over-priced chocolatey raspberry liquid soup with Heath chunks in it. Maybe this was a one-off situation, but consider yourself warned. If you are craving a cold blended treat with toppings, then just go to the DQ up the street. The atmosphere and customer service were great, but ultimately I wanted to enjoy my custard, so I give this place 2 out of 5 stars.

Custard here is absolutely delicious. However, we got there right when they opened and we were the first order of the day. Our pizza was black on the bottom. Only 2 slices were edible. Paying $20 for a pizza and receiving that is completely disappointing. Will stick with the custard from now on.

Sydney's gets my vote as a top notch Grand Marais casual eatery. I was blown away by the care, kindness and service we recently received here, which was on top of the delicious pizza with a nice crisp thin crust and scrumptious custard dessert.Tonight our artist's group held a private party here and the place was stuffed with a hundred or so of us all jostling for a turn at pizza, custard, and drinks.Sydney's team didn't bat an eye, they just kept the hot pizzas coming with good cheer. When the owner noticed I wasn't eating, he good naturedly asked if I were too shy. When I replied that I couldn't eat gluten, he said, "I can make you a gluten-free pizza! Can you eat dairy?" "No to that too." He said, "Not a problem. I'll make it dairy free too."Honestly, I was touched beyond belief at the care and kindness afforded to me without my even asking. My special pizza was wonderful and obviously made with care. The fact that someone took time to ask why I wasn't eating in a restaurant completely FULL of hungry people...well, I could cry. That kind of concern just isn't something you'd expect to happen today.Bottom line: Sydney's is a wonderful eatery led, managed and staffed by some amazingly great people.Thank YOU to Sydney's 1000 times over.

Stopped for custard treats after a hot day and they were amazing. They have the regular options as well as some really creative options. The Almond Joy treat was particularly good. We didn't get food, but good options looked great as well and we'll definitely be back to try them out.

I did not try the custard, but the pizza is excellent. It's hand tossed, thin crust, and wood-fired. All the pizzas are 12" /8-slices, so, not huge. Priced between $15-20, we split one between 3, which made for a very reasonable (and delicious) light lunch.I personally could have eaten a while pizza myself (and we didn't order any drinks) so it could easily multiply the bill several fold - and it would be worth it!Another feature that can make this an integral part of a visit to Grand Marais, is the rooftop seating with views of the lake and the surrounding Scenery!
