The "Mangy Moose" is far from Mangy! The rooms are beautiful and homey and look even better in person than they do in pictures! Everything is super clean and nicely put together. There are notes explaining how to work everything, and if you have any confusion the hosts are super nice and easy to reach! We had a wonderful time during our stay at the Mangy Moose! The rooms were extremely clean and comfortable. Everything looked brand new. The owners were lovely and provided a local guide book with hikes, restaurants, and local attractions. We were close to town and within walking distance of great restaurants and a brewery. Would definitely recommend staying here!

Nothing mangey about this place! The rooms are super cute and clean and very updated. We were just visiting for a few days and needed a place to rest our heads and take a shower and the moose fit the bill! It was nice and quiet and very close to everything, very walkable spot. I thoroughly appreciated the key code door lock that made it easy going in and out. The owners are so welcoming and really set the tone for your experience, they want to make sure you have the best stay and won’t hesitate to chat with you. We highly recommend this place!Rooms: The room was really clean! We felt very safe there. Our needs were met. The owners are so friendly! They even have a fire pit every night! (Weather permitting). We are coming back here and we even recommend this place to our families that travel.

We stayed in Room 6, which is the smallest of the rooms, but had plenty of space for us as a couple. Room was CLEAN, smelled fresh, and had all of the necessities (and then some). The property is well-kept and welcoming. Bill & Danielle were great hosts - very friendly, communicative, and willing to go the extra mile. They checked on us to make sure everything was to our liking. For the price point, you won't find a friendlier and cleaner stay in Grand Marais. We'll be back!

Clean and comfortable. Everything we needed for a two night stay to explore Grand Marais and surrounding area. Walls were a little thin, so could hear others getting ready early in the morning but we’d definitely stay there again!Community fire pit was a nice cozy touch.

The Mangy Moose Motel in Grand Marias is such a lovely place. The location is excellent, easy to find, and close enough to all of the sites to enjoy in downtown Grand Marias. The owners, Bill and Danielle are excellent hosts and always available should you need them. They even had a cute fire pit going every night for their guests to enjoy. The room that we stayed in was more than enough for us. Rooms are way better than other motels in the area! We would recommend this motel to anyone! Thank you for the great hospitality!!

This was a fantastic place to stay in! It had a cute modern cabin chic vibe going, so you got the cozy feeling with all of the modern necessities. Danielle(excuse my spelling) and her husband were super friendly! They stopped by for quick chats when we walked by outside, but also kept a good distance away. Great social distancing. 10/10 would recommend

This was the best motel I've ever stayed in! Loved how clean it was, the beds were very comfortable and I loved how there was ample storage space in the kitchen. Updated and everything in great shape. Didn't have too cluttered of a look as far as decor at all. Very conveniently located- just a few short blocks from the heart of Grand Marais near the lake. Pillows were a bit flat but didn't mind bringing up one of my own after noticing other reviewers mention that too. Nice and bright, very nice to be able to park right outside your own unit and I loved how quiet it was too! The new owners were EXTREMELY nice and welcoming. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone else looking for a place to stay up along the North Shore!

I would rate higher if I could. Room was very well laid out, very clean, bed was very comfortable with fancy duvet and well decorated. We were in the Bear Den, room 4; each room has different features. Nice tv, Coffee maker with coffee and refrigerator in room. Had comfortable leather chairs and table to relax in, books to read and other amenities. Young couple who own the motel take good care of facility and have made several improvements in the 3 years they have owned it. They are very personable and obviously care about making quality improvements like tile floor in the bathroom and sound proofing in the walls. They make you feel welcome and help you find things to see and do during your stay. We are definitely staying there again at our next trip to Grand Marais.

Very nice place! Billy and Danielle were fantastic hosts! They gave us some recommendations for places to check out based on what we told them we liked. They gave us a great deal on our room. The bed was amazingly comfortable. I would definitely stay here again. It was the best place we stayed on our trip. We stayed in the Loon themed room. The room was decorated very tastefully. Keep up the great work guys!

I love this place! I love this type of place! The owners are top notch, quality people that have a great story and are truly and genuinely awesome. The rooms were excellent, clean and very comfortable. We pulled in to dodge a storm on 3 motorcycles and they couldn't have been more accommodating. I wish them all the best and this will be cemented as my go-to spot for north shore lodging. Stay here, you won't regret it.

This is was such an awesome place to stay in GM. SO easy to check in / out and the owners are so great and welcoming. They had a fire going every night to sit by, clean rooms & parking right next to the door of your room! A close walk to the middle of town (I would say it took 3 minutes or so to get to WBD)! Overall a great place to stay, totally recommend for a couples weekend trip!

I've been to the north shore before but not for many years. Needed a quiet, comfortable, private space where I was close enough I could walk everywhere in Grand Marais to enjoy the sights. That's exactly what I got and more. The owners here are great hosts. Kind and helpful about what's around. They go out of their way but leave you to your own too. The room is very comfortable very nice linens, bed, I rested very well. The amenities of cable, wifi, microwave, mini fridge, coffee maker, and a nearby couple of grocery stores made it just right for me. The room decor is fishing cabin but modern and I loved having the windows open. With your own entry, you feel like you have your own little cabin rental. There's even a space where guests can sit outside and read a book, enjoy some sun, or have a fire. I plan to come again.

Had the privilege of staying in Room 2 “Gitche Gummi” for 2 nights with my wife. She was a bit skeptical but was quickly won over when she saw how well maintained, clean, and upgraded it was.Why it was great:* Easy access key code for room entry* Friendly on-site owners who were very knowledgeable about the north shore* Spotless, updated room with a super comfortable bed, tv, microwave, keurig, and hi-speed Wi-Fi* Walking distance from all that Grand Marais has to offer* Guidebook with recommendations about what to eat and what to seeNegative:The only one I can come up with is privacy. You are at ground level and Room 2 had a condo building across the street and a modest amount of street traffic. Close the curtains if you need privacy.Hoping to come back again in the near future.

The Mangy Moose is THE place to stay in Grand Marais. It is definitely the nicest motel I’ve ever stayed in. We ended up booking a room last minute after ending up with a bummer of a campsite. Billy and Danielle (owners) are the nicest hosts you could possibly ask for. They were so welcoming and shared all sorts of fun places to explore close by. The rooms were tastefully remodeled and exceptionally clean. We will definitely be staying here every time we come to town!

Dave and Don were very pleasant, and the room was very clean and comfortable for such a reasonable price ($69 for one queen bed). In addition to the queen bed, our room had a twin bed, a microwave, mini-fridge, and coffee maker.This motel is nothing fancy, but the owners are taking good care of it, and provided us with a really nice experience.It's a short walk to downtown restaurants and shops, but far enough away from 61 so that you don't hear the street noise.
