This was my 2nd time here. The first time was six months ago and only cost around $60 after a discount. For $60, it is what it is. It's a cheap, no frills place. However, this last time it was over $115 (after a discount) and for that price this place is sub-par. The rooms are terribly outdated, had to run the "hot" water for legit 10 minutes for it to get hot, the hallway is not heated, the room heat was not turned on or plugged in. It was simply not a $115 experience. It would have been $137 or so without the discount.Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. I personally will not be staying here again. For $140 I'd rather stay at the AmericInn down the road, which has nice rooms and a pool.

For $75 we’d say it was a good value. Excellent front desk service and smooth check in process, keys worked. We asked to see the room In advance and noticed the bathroom was clean and lacked nothing that we needed. The kingsize bed was comfortable and linens spotless. NO bedbugs! Carpeting was not great so just keep your shoes on. Heater worked real well. Lots of simple options available for breakfast including cranberry wild rice toast which we appreciated along with cold cereal and yogurt, juice, and hot microwaveable burritos as well. We’d stay here again.👍Nearby activities: Lots of hiking, sight seeing, fun shops, and restaurants near by. Close to town.

It's exactly what you'd expect for $79. I got the last room of the night, called at 715pm and was able to snag it. Antique a/c unit is cute. There is a big room fan if needed. Heating works great! Bathroom is nice, it's stacked with enough supplies for 4 people. Has mini-mini fridge, no microwave (probably at front desk), has tv with a fire tv stick. Alarm clock was off and unplugged. You get a cold continental breakfast at front desk from 730-10. Good front desk folk👍

This is a cheap motel, so you should expect to get something cheap. The rooms look like something you would see in a movie. This is the type of place you would stay at if you plan on being out and about. It's nice enough to "come back" and relax at. It's like it was built in the 90s and nothing has really changed. Because it's cheap, it does attract a lower class clientele. But honestly, it's a great price and the rooms are fine. We would stay here again.

I booked 5 rooms for a group of friends for a skiing weekend. When I made the reservation I was told we would be able to use the hot tub at Aspen Lodge, however when we arrived they told us we could not use it. The rooms are in tough shape. One room the heat wasn't working and the shades for the room was so warm out there was holes and light coming through, another room the fan in the wall sounded so loud it would have been impossible to sleep with it on, in a third room the tub wouldn't drain. We were supposed to have fridges in each room. Only two of the rooms had a fridge. For breakfast there was no coffee. The front desk said they were working on it, but next day there still wasn't coffee. Managers showed no concern about any of ther promises made about the hot tub or problems in the rooms. This motel shouldn't even be open.

Location is good but otherwise you get what you pay for. The rooms are decent, there’s a tv and mini fridge, but the beds are creaky and there’s no AC. When we asked about the AC, the person who checked us in stated that they were letting them all break one by one so they could be replaced all at once. The ice machine is broken as well. $120 a night is too spendy for a ragtag side of the road motel.

September 2023-- Clean rooms have comfortable beds, TV with Roku, a mini-fridge, and is absolutely adequate. The location is close to the city, has plenty of parking, and has a very reasonable price. The free breakfast includes pre-packaged individual wrapped items, cereal, and juice or coffee...edible and free, but not great.

They take advantage of summer vacation pricing.Stayed Fisherman Picnic weekend...busiest weekendof the year. Once we checked in, we never saw a staff member again. No clean towels, no one there for check out, no access to hot tub, one room key didn't work. Very disappointing.

This wonderful hotel 🏨 reminds me of some of the most refined hotels that I've stayed in throughout the world, such as in Paris, Cape Town, Cozumel, Prague, Rio de Janeiro, Costa Rica, Montreal as well as in Bali. I was really impressed with the continental breakfast and its options. Connor at the reception was incredible and helpful. Dani, the young gal who also worked at the front desk, got our Roku set up, and we were able to watch Netflix via my account. The room that I had (228) was quiet and had plenty of hot water. It's a great staging area for your trip to the BWCA.I implore you to stay here. Also, ask for the Veteran's discount if applicable. Bring the kids...Nearby activities: It's close to the BWCA. I was able to see the Northern Lights when I drove out of town.

Found this little gem on an adventure a couple weeks ago and cannot stop telling everyone how great it was! Motels are my new favorite way to travel after this! The convenience of packing/unpacking is at the top of the list, but the location and staff tied for first of reasons why I'll stay again. The pool/hot tub were in another building, but it felt great walking outside after being nice and warm. My room was a couple doors down from the laundry and ice. After climbing rocks all day this was an amenity I was happy to have! The lady at the front desk not only made it convenient to check in a little late, but also helped me out after not having quarters. She did it all with a smile and wonderful hospitality. Not to mention the breakfast i got to take with me to my room (thanks covid) and the coffee waiting the next day! A little dated, but very quiet and the rooms were clean. This place was the perfect way to start a week long adventure up the north shore!

Booked my reservation 3 months in advance under the assumption my pet was allowed to be there, since that's what the site had posted when we searched pet friendly. Decided to follow up a few days before our stay to reconfirm and found out that they recently changed their policy a week before we booked, but only on their side, not the third party apps. Tried to work with management about having our dog join us and they said they would not help. They recommended 3 additional hotels that were all fully booked for our dates, I shared they were all fully booked and not an option and they did not care. So now we had to either cancel a trip we had planned for 3 months or find last minute boarding for our dog. Would not recommend this place to anyone. If I could give them a 0 stars I would.

When booking this I was on a website that specified it was animal friendly.. i didn’t see anywhere that it said that pets had to be approved prior? And could only go into certain rooms? When I went up to the front desk I checked in but the front desk person was not friendly. I told her that i read it was pet friendly and she said “by approval” when i said that i didn’t see it she said it’s on the website and i was “lucky to have gotten a room”The experience was just weird.. it felt off and not friendly. We ended up walking into the room and then just leaving and heading home to Duluth because it was such a weird encounter and rooms were pretty old school. Toilet was dirty. Should’ve been cheaper. Honestly would’ve stayed if the front desk didn’t make me feel so bad.

Entering the room immediately struck by the mold smell coming from the floors very dirty, bugs. October and base board heat didn't work they gave me a pliers to turn on the wall heater which when turned on smelled like burn hair just horrific told me to open the window again October freezing at night. Of coarse everything in town was booked and they didn't have another room. My wife toddler and myself spent the whole night in our vehicle as there wasn't another option. If it means anything I am no prude but this is by far the worst room I have ever seen.

This is an okay-ish place for a couple of days. This will be our last stay here as they say they are phasing our their pet policy because “people complained”. I don’t understand the phasing out - the policy exists or it doesn’t? But… it’s been a decent place to stay with our dog. It’s also overpriced at $100/night.The staff (especially Tina) was very helpful and friendly.Available outlets for charging devices are few and far between… and they’re loose, so things don’t stay plugged in.As you can see from the photos, it’s boujie…Mass-produced framed wall art with unique, custom water stains *inside* the frame…State of the art communications equipment…Note: the inn is not, in any way, associated with a Super 8.Luxury thrift store towels labeled specifically as “Pool” towels… Note: there is no pool.A modern, high tech HVAC system…And lastly, for our floor to (almost) ceiling viewing pleasure, an energy efficient room entrance that provides stunning views of the parking lot, all while allowing unfettered access for mosquitos and other crawling, slithering, and flying vermin.Oops. Apparently I can’t post photos on this review. I wonder why?But yeah, phasing out the pet policy is the way to go. 🙄

Outlets that cords fall out of. Toilets that don't flush. Old springy mattresses that make you wake up with a back ache. No services to your room during your stay. No public garbage cans to speak of to empty your own trash. A broken hot tub. This should be a $50/night hotel. The only saving grace was that the manager of the aspen lodge down the street let our kids use their pool, and the rooms were clean on arrival.

We had a wonderful stay at the Aspen Inn. Sure it’s a little dated, but that didn’t bother us. It was clean, and had everything we needed at a decent price. We even got to bring our dog for a very low pet fee. The staff was friendly and had great advice for restaurants and hiking. We plan to come back next year and will definitely be staying here again!

Nice, clean comfortable room! After reading some comments on here I found this to be a great place to stay! I was told the air conditioner didn't work. We didn't need it but there was a fan available if needed. The bed was comfortable. I will stay again.

Expensive for the experience. Pool was closed, no breakfast, air conditioner was gross, loud and barely working. EVERY outlet in my room was loose and wouldn't hold a plug. Everything smelled musty. Was told by employees that there was no maintenance, housekeeping was low and barely had any employees. A lot of locks were broken, the lock on the room looked damaged. Lastly, the front desk employee was super rude and snarky. I dont recommend this place and I won't be staying here again.

The property is being renovated it seems, and staff was quick to change out towels and broken coffee pot. Shower curtain did have mold on it, yet after a canoe trip we were thankful for a hot shower and dog friendly room. Mattresses need to be replaced .

We left. Room was gross. One of those rooms you don't want to take your shoes off. We had a pet-friendly room that appeared to have dog vomit that was picked up but not shampooed in 2 separate spots. Bathroom floor looked dirty so I took a wet hand towel and scrubbed the surface and it came off. They were understanding enough to cancel our reservation but charged a $30 "room cleaning fee" for the hand towel I used to clean the floor. I'd pay another $30 to not stay there again.

The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. The place definitely needs some updating.... carpet was very stained and the AC's looked ancient. Over all, would definitely stay there again! Loved that they allowed dogs without charging a fortune!

Check in was pleasant. Room was clean. Nice and quiet area. Way cleaner then the one my niece stayed in downtown next to jarva coffee shop. Only thing lacking was a mircowave for when the town shuts down it would be nice to warm up leftovers. Such a beautiful drive into town from the top of hill in the morning to watch the sun rise. Way better then being on main Street.

Beds were in dire need of replacing, they were incredibly uncomfortable. Even my son had a hard time sleeping on them, the air conditioner looked like it was from the late 70s and sounded like a truck without a muffler. I can't remember the last time I saw a 19" tube style tv. The carpet looked like it was 30 years old. And to top off the whole room had a very musty mold smell to it after we left all our stuff had that musty smell to it. You would think for $300 for 2 nights it would have been a little bit nicer, I've stayed in places that we're 40 bucks a night and we're more updated then this place.

No room service. Website states they offer pool and Continental breakfast both of which were nonexistent. When we mentioned our dissatisfaction to the gal at the desk there didn’t seem to be a care other than a “we’re short staff due to covid”. Okay, I get covid happened but If your going to advertise amenities please offer them.We had a bed and a roof over our heads during the storm passing through so we are thankful. Must say we will not stay here again.NEEDS major improvements both in service and appearance.
