Absolute top quality fish shop!And, I've been to nearly every single one I. Th twin cities area.One of the many things I love about this place that sets them apart is their treatment of bettas. They are in micro containers that are bigger than little cups and the room is adequately heated. It also seems like they have some sort of drip thing going where the fish is getting surface agitation (so oxygen) a day long. They also all look startlingly healthy.I could say so many great things about this place aside from the bettas too! Staff is incredible.Bought this one for my son:

Was there on 2/24 and needed help. I am new to RO water and their parameters. Shout out to everyone there as they all went around helping and even got my RO water remineralized due to out of stock gh/kh products. Learned a lot from them. My caridina shrimps are happy.

Unfortunately after adding the 18 fish I purchased from this store to my fish tank, they developed ich and died. Along with them all but a small handful of the 30 ish fish I had before adding these ones, died aswell. I was very disappointed because I absolutely love this store. They have a very large and exotic selection, and though they can be a bit more expensive, they tend to offer some amazing deals.Once I discussed this matter with the owner of the store, he offered to work with me on rebuilding my tank to its former glory. The management at this store are very friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. Despite the rare hiccup I experienced on my last visit I will continue to shop at this store. I have never seen a selection like forest lake pets, be it freshwater or saltwater they likely have what you’re looking for. I have seen plenty of creatures i’ve never seen in a pet shop and simply never seen before period, The staff is knowledgeable in their expertise, i’ve been there 2 times this month despite living in saint paul, it really is worth a 30 minute drive just for this pet store, if you live anywhere in the twin cities or even forest lake I highly recommend you check them out, they get in shipments of reptiles like snakes and frogs and invertebrates like tarantulas of many variety very often and if that isn’t enough they have “Freshwater Friday” and “Saltwater Saturday” every single week where they get a shipment of the respective fish type so you know they will have at least something new every single week, I could go on and on about the service and quality, on todays visit I decided to purchase some medium goldfish from their tank near the gamefish and having bought goldfish as pets when i was younger and as feeders other times, i’ve had my fair share of experiences with sickly fish so I stated I wanted my fish to be healthy and since i was purchasing them for a community tank i also requested different colors and they allowed me to use the net to pick and scoop goldfish of my own choice, it’s a small detail but I have never been allowed to scoop my own fish in any pet store before, if you have absolutely any interest in aquatic wildlife I would 100% recommend checking out Forest Lake Pets.

Purchased two clown fish for a new saltwater tank. All my tank parameters were spot on after letting it cycle for a month. On the way home, one of the clowns didn’t look the best (I’m only 20 minutes away). The first clown died within 24 hours and the other died within 3 days of purchasing. Both fish were drip acclimated as well. I purchased replacements from a closer, local fish store, at a cheaper price and they’ve been going thriving with no issues. Due to no guarantee and below average quality of saltwater fish, I will no longer be shopping at Forest Lake Pets for my saltwater fish needs.

We discovered this store not far from us and were thrilled to see a place with large variety. We have visited several times and have purchased plants and items for our tanks. We finally made a huge purchase for two new tanks and spent around 220 for all. While checking out it was extremely busy and my partner who is disabled became hot and in his confused state I was helping him into the car and was going to purchase two more items. I said I’ll come back in and it was hot. I was walking to the door and the cashier yelled in front of everyone at us like a child.Upon my return to purchase the last two items which totaled $10, I could see them speaking about it in front of other customers and me.I understand their actions and concerns for theft but accusing and being apologetic toward someone wasn’t enough and scolding me in front of other customers was uncalled for. Simply asking is enough but treating me like I’m a huge thief…The last few visit is to the store something has always been off. The employees in the front seem to not know what the heck is going on and frantic. I came in for water testing and the employee who did it gave me weird advice on cycling a tank. Don’t trust them for testing. Get your own kit.All in all to say the people in the back near the fish are great guys and I’m sad to say that the people in the front are rude or frantic which makes it uncomfortable. Sadly I will not return and I hope them the best.

Really healthy fish, a good selection of Bettas, and a fantastic aquatic plant selection. The fish prices are a bit higher than other stores, but you get what you pay for. They also have a wide selection of frozen fish food at good prices.

I recently got into aquariums about 8 months ago. Went from a 10 gal. To 50 gal. Tank. Been buying my fish from petco from the beginning. NOTE- people please go to Forest lake Pets for all your pet needs. The fish are taken care of very well here. Largest fish room in MN. Great staff and friendly!!!

I love this place it has a lot more fish options than petsmart and they take better care for there animals. They also are more experienced. Its even just a fun place to visit to look at all the fish.Though if you are planning to buy fish i would definitely recommend doing your research!! and treating fish before you put them in your tank. Even if your buying plants because sometimes they can have types of algae that are really annoying like black beard algae.This is mostly a fish store not dog and cat. They have lots of options for filters and tanks fish food you name it. But even with that being said they have rats and mice, geckos snakes, birds, spiders lizards and even the occasional scorpions and chameleons.The picture is of the female betta i got.

Loved all the younger staff. When I asked for the bathroom I didn't get a very warm response from one of the workers behind the desk. Would definitely go back for the fish though! Great wide variety with lots of knowledge from the guys!

Let me start by saying there aren't many pet stores in my area. This one is 50 minutes west of our house (and there are a couple in this area). 45 minutes east of our house there is one that is a large chain but the smaller one in that area went out of business. We only went to this area because it was on the way home from a hospital trip for my 7 year old son's cancer treatment.We were not expecting much when we pulled up out front and saw this tiny unimpressive store front. We were expecting a tiny mom and pop shop where we would be able to get a couple basic fish. That would have been fine because that's what we needed. Well, that and my 7 year old son, who is going in for high dose chemo and stem cell transplant in 1 week which basically means 2 months at the hospital, wanted to see some small furries and lizards before he goes in. They did have some of both of these and my son was happy with the variety he got to see.When we walked in the front door we felt kind of crowded, not with people, but with supplies for sale. The isles are not very wide, but that is because they offer such a wide variety of pet supplies and accessories. I'm only mentioning this so you know what to expect in case you need a lot of space to get down isles. We weren't looking for supplies this day, but what we did see were very reasonably priced! If we would have known about this store when we bought our son his fish tank set up, we would have saved over $60 compared to what we had paid at PetSmart. (Which, by the way, is how we learned about this store. The associate at PetSmart said their supplier hasn't been able to fill all their orders recently even with basic fish like kuhli loaches or plecostomus, so thank you PetSmart for the referral!)Now the main star of the show. This store is NOT as small as the store front would have you believe. The depth of this store feels like it goes in FOREVER! The "back" of the store is filled with rows upon rows of fish, plus a separate room just for saltwater which we didn't even make it into. We did not get to see even 15% of the fish because we ran out of time, but what we did get to see was astounding! This place has more fish in one place than I have seen anywhere else in my entire life. Fresh water and salt water alike. Everything from the basics that I mentioned earlier to string rays, rope fish, flower horns, and so much more! That's not mentioning the plants, anemones, live rock, etc.This place is heaven for any aquarium lover or enthusiast. This will be my new go to location for my pet needs.

love the fish/plants variety BUT during the checkout process with a senior cash register staff, it wasn’t welcoming nor friendly. the looks that would be given & customer service, felt like they wanted us out more than wanting us in the store.

We are aquarium noobs. The staff was friendly, helpful, and super patient, taking the time to answer every question. The selection of fish is unlike anything I have ever seen. They could charge admission to walk through the rows and rows of fish. We will definitely be back.

This was my first trip. It's an hour drive and worth it. I met the owner, great guy. Every tank was clean, fish looked great. They actually had natives that looked healthy. Picked up some skrimps for the fish room.

This place is amazing! I honestly have never been in a such an awesome fish store. They had such a huge selection of unique and beautiful fish. I came in for a pleco. They had easily 20 different species of plecos. They had rare species which are hard to find anywhere except online. I also was helped by a couple of gentlemen which were very nice and knowledgeable. It's a long drive for me but it's so worth with the drive to come to this awesome store.

I need to drive about 3.5 hours to get here and it is so worth it. This is with no debate the best fish store I have been too, and I have been to allot. The first time I was in the cities for work and only had 45 minutes to look so my next day off I took a trip just to be able to look at all of the tanks. The fish all looked healthy and employees were busy taking care of gravel vac and water changes. They had allot of unique fish along with the normal bread and butter fish. I will make another trip and maybe carpool with other fish friends to visit such a great LFS.

Forest lake pets has one of the best fish rooms i have ever seen in mn. Their stock of fish is always healthy and the tanks are always clean. They always have a great selection of aquariums and over 3 aisles of fish various species and plants coral frags and anenomes. I will always keep coming back. There is always an easily found staff member to bag up some fish or help with questions. Very knowledgable.

Great store all around except for their hermit crabs, who are being cared for improperly, and the hermit crab care sheets, which are spreading misinformation and hermit crab supplies, all of which is bad/improper.If it wasn't for the hermit crabs I would rate it 5/5 but because of how bad it is I'm rating it 3/5
