I don't quite understand why everyone is giving this pet store 1 star! We have been going here for over 10 years and have always had excellent service. We've gotten all seven of our hamsters there, along with plenty of help and all of the hamsters were perfect and lived for a long time. The lady that works there has always been very kind to us and has provided us with very good advice. If you disagree, it could be that you caught her on a bad day. We all know that everyone has those. I am currently looking into getting a dwarf rabbit, and this is surely my go-to place!

Great Shop!! We took our daughter there to buy a hamster. They were so helpful, and had great products. The store is small, and they have a lot to offer, so it feels a little cramped. I did not notice any bad odors at all - and the cages for the animals looked clean. Not only did they have great products to set up our new hamster, but they also offered us tips for kids handling hamsters. Great place!

I've read all the reviews and agree with the negatives about the woman. My girls and I have had several VERY BAD experiences with her. But, they have the best breeds of guinea pigs! And, thus, we went back today. It was an EXCEPTIONAL experience! Gary helped us. They had exactly two Abyssinian guinea pigs and we immediately fell in love with them. This is our third round with guinea pigs and Gary explained something I didn't know. For example, how to litter-train. Second, he price matched the larger cage I planned to order. Gary said they research and bring in the best quality products. And, I have to agree. Gary said they only work with small outfit breeders and insist that they begin handling the guinea pigs at birth. Gary intimately knows the pets he sells and was able to tell me which corner the girls already preference to pee. Our cavies are already comfortable being handled and affectionately purr. We were EXTREMELY PLEASED with our experience at Noah's Ark. Bravo Gary!

I love this pet store. I always get great service and the prices are better than the big pet stores. We get great advice and it's always fun to see the kittens. I've been shopping there for years and have always had a great experience. Plus, I like to shop small business, I feel the customer service is better. If they don't have something, if they can, they make a special order. Love this place!

I have doing business here for 15 years now. A parrot, leopard geckos, bearded dragons, hamsters, fish, crickets, worms, dog food (for 3 dogs), and chews make up the bulk of my livestock/supply purchases. When I am in there I see parents bring in their kids (all ages) and not even keep an eye on them while their little fingers are in the kitty cage (3 signs saying to keep fingers out), or in the fish tanks, or opening up the cages to pet the rabbits (signs everywhere to keep your fingers to yourself for the pet's health). What's wrong with these parents? If I were there to buy a kitty, I would like to know that kids (and teens and adults, I might add) have not compromised the health of that feline and same with a rabbit, fish or other critter there simply because they could not control their kids or themselves. What's an employee to do when a parent INSISTS that they just want their child to pet/play with the animal without intent to purchase? Shouldn't the parents be teaching their kids (and practicing themselves) RESPECT?I find the reviewer that complained about their child not being able to play with the kitten (they already had a cat) is displaying selfish and inconsiderate behavior of the shop owner, the animals (kittens) and the future owners of the pets.I will continue to support locally owned businesses throughout Excelsior, and surely Noah's Ark.P.S. No need to "cut down" someone's physicality or voice (in this case), as we never know what the "real story" is (throat cancer from radon? survived an attack? genetic issues?).

I can't believe the old woman who runs this joint! She should not be allowed to deal with people at all. I don't give this place any stars! My daughter wanted to hold the kitten she had recently seen in the window this past weekend. So I brought her back, because it was all she could do as we weren't going to buy one. She asked if I was going to purchase the kitten with her 10 packs a day voice and I stated that "No we already had a cat at home, but she was excited to play with or hold the cat" She continued to help the other customers and completely ignore us as they were purchasing something and we were not. Mind you, we were there long before the paying customers. My daughter went up to her and said "kitty" she is 4 years old. The lady looked at my and I said very politely, she is waiting patiently and is excited. In a very rude tone she said, "Well I am sorry, but I have to help my paying customers!" I was so taken back. I was thinking, your obviously not thinking about the bigger picture. I COULD have been a future customer and even talked about the pet shop as I own a pet business myself. After that, I was in ah! And like NO WAY! Instead they get this nice review. After everyone left the store and believe me some of the paying patrons were also in ah at how she treated us! She still didn't come to help us. Finally I found her and said "look, I wasn't trying to be rude, I just felt it was rude that you made such a nasty comment!" You spoke to a customer in that manner? She said "your not a customer, because you aren't buying anything!" I said I could have or even in the future! She didn't know if I needed anything else, besides holding the kitten. Then she started literally laughing in my face and I said I can't believe your laughing and arguing with someone who came to your store. She said I do, when I know I am not wrong?!!! WTF!I couldn't believe it. She picked up her phone and said "Here you can talk to the owner yourself" He will tell you the same thing. That I can't let someone hold the cat while I am helping PAYING customers. I said I was willing to wait, it was the way we were treated. Such a B****! Don't go here, you'll regret every minute of it.This review could have been different!

This pet store is inexperienced when it comes to any thing at all. They sell goldfish in bowls, which widely known in the aquarium trade, it terrible. Fancy goldfish kept in bowls will live 2-3 years. Fancy goldfish living in ponds live 9-11 years. Feeder goldfish kept in bowls rarely live more than a year. Kept in ponds, they live 20. And those are averages. They are also inexperienced with betta medications, and they don't even sell aquarium plants! When I asked the person working there if they happened to have java fern in stock, they said they'd never heard of it. Java fern if by far the most common aquarium plant available, making me more skeptical of their other products. Lastly, everything is greatly overpriced to exploit beginner fish-keepers. I saw a filter there that cost $30, and when I looked at SeaLevel in Hopkins, the same filter cost $12! Some better fish stores I recommend are SeaLevel, located in Hopkins or Tropiquatics, located in North St Paul.

My wife and I have had a couple of bad experiences. The older woman seems to hate kids. I just left there (5/2/13) and was watching my boys the whole time. She scolded them when they weren't doing anything. I would be the first to admit if they were. There are times they should be scolded. After my wife having more than one experience like this, I stood up to the older woman. I hope this place goes under. That woman should not be in retail.

Excellent experience. Local ownership, knowledgeable about the animals they sell. Also, the birds, fish, bunnies etc. all seem a lot healthier than the ones at the chain stores. It's really worth a visit!

The smoker voice woman is rude and everything is over priced. Hay & rabbit food is about double the cost of walmart's and petco's.
