For a small town grocery store, Zup's Food Market is pretty impressive. They offer house smoked meats, sausages and jerky and you will not find that at your typical grocer.While I shopped, I felt like I was shopping at a Aldi's or Trader Joe's. Saying that, I mean I saw brands I typically do not see in my grocer back home. Being from the mid-west, some of these brands here were totally different. However, I will say, those that we bought to cook at my cousins cabin were good quality.One thing that really impressed me was, the Amish unsalted butter in a roll. There's just something about the freshness and homemade flavor, that makes it stand out.Being a small town grocery, everyone knew each other, so the service had that down home feel.

This is new Zup's Food Market. Inside looks like Lunds & Byerlys store. Quite large and fancy. We really enjoyed shopping here.

We always love a run to Zup's in Ely for the best Polish (sausage) Delites! They have other good things you can only get there, like Blueberry pop, Dorothy Molter Root Beer, Boar's Head deli meats and cheeses, Homestyle Beef Jerky, etc. Prices are a bit high, but it's the end of the road, so it makes sense. It's also high quality! We used to drive from the cities, and now we drive from Eveleth. It's worth it!

Tourist Bonus: They have a smashed penny machine in their entryway! For out of towner’s, this store offers a huge variety of things you would and wouldn’t ever find back home. In the deli, have a visually awesome selection of Minnesota-Style “salads” - perfect for church potlucks. Their butcher area is magical, in that there are sliding mirrors behind the meat that a butcher will pop their head out of to answer questions for customers! They had an impressively fresh and well priced produce department. They also offer carry out service and have a great deal of empty boxes up front, presumably for anyone who is moving. I absolutely love visiting grocery stores when traveling, and this store is definitely worth the stop if you also like this kind of activity. Also, they sell Tahitian Treat. Score!

We are so lucky to have this great grocery store in our small town. Along with the usual fair, there are organic offerings, a deli, keto offerings, and some dry goods.

Haven't been up to Ely in about 5 yrs. Wow have things changed! Zups is now huge! Took over the old Pamida location. Prices are a bit high, but it's Ely. Very nice store, well laid out and they have just about everything.

We always visit Zups before heading back home to pick up mustard, polish delights, pasties, pizzas and mocha cakes. At the encouragement of the locals we ordered our holiday Prime Rib from Zups this year. WOW! It was the best Prime Rib we've had, at home or in restaurant. Very reasonably priced, spices and au jus included. OUTSTANDING!Coated the Prime Rib with the spice packet mixed with some fresh garlic and butter. Let it sit out at room temp for an hour or so before cooking it at 500 for 15 minutes (yes, I set off the smoke detector) followed by 13 minutes a pound at 325. Tented it with foil while the sides cooked for about 40 minutes. The PERFECT Prime Rib! Thanks Zups! We will never get Prime Rib anywhere else!p.s. I agree with previous reviewer.... I get a HyVee vibe from the new Zups! Ely will be where we retire and we are so grateful for such a wonderful option right in town!

This grocery store is a reliable option for your everyday shopping needs. They offer a good variety of products at reasonable prices, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. It's the only grocery store in town, so they can get away with higher prices, but they have a goodish selection and will order things for you if there's something you need. Overall, it's a decent store that gets the job done. I do wish they had later hours though. There's not a lot of options left if you have to run out late cause you forgot something.

Great grocery store, large selection, they actually have a lot of awesome name brands and products that I can't even get down in the cities. Be aware the deli is often not open due to staffing shortages unfortunately.

Kinda expensive normally but is always having some kind of sale in which case prices are reasonable. You pretty much have to go there a few times a week to see what's on sale and stock up on stuff. If you can do that, prices are reasonable for what it is. Go early in the morning for meat, usually something marked for quick sale. and yes I understand it's at the end of the road and food costs are way up but this is ridiculous. That's what happens when they buy out any competition ig.

Mom and I always come here when camping near Ely, MN and have had a good experience grocery shopping here every time. Firewood here (although its birch) is usually pretty dry and burns good

This place has been renovated and is in very nice quality shape. There is baked/cooked food on the right side of the store and there is a lot of things on stock. There is also a pharmacy located on the left side of the building and there is also alcohol, overall it is a good renovation of which it was pretty much a good choice to make.

Caters well for people who are heading into the boundary Waters canoe area. Has lots of dried and packaged goods, alongside it's open jerky, saurkraut and fresh produce, butchery and deli counter.Pick up a copy of John Wayne magazine!Got some nice gluten free stuff here (pasta, muffins)

All Summer long I would go to the deli to see if they had any made-up wild rice chicken salad, but it was never there. Did you discontinue it?Then, recently I purchased deli hashbrowns, and every potato inside was rotten.

New store with the name that goes way back. You can stock up on all the food you need before making your way to the lake for the week. Employees are friendly and helpful. Self check out available for those that don't want to stand in line.

If I can't get it at Zups I can do without it or make my own. Pretty good hot deli if I don't want to cook. Specialties like pastys, hot bologna, zinkrofe and a good rotisserie chicken, too*!There is a new pharmacy with drive up window service, or you can enter from the back corner of the store. Essentia Pharmacy.*If I had a complaint, it would be prices. Of course, we're at the end of the road and tourists, etc., but when there is no competition (only a Dollar General which is not well stocked & a tiny natural foods store is no competition, sorry (we are all not looking for wheatgrass juice cleanses)), then whatever they think they can get, they will get.At a certain point, driving 55 miles to Virginia doesn't look so bad, even at $4/gallon ($3.34/g as of 11/20/23) gas.I also refuse to use "self checkout", as people need jobs.Don't turn Ely into Jackson Hole or Aspen, where the service workers cannot afford to live in the town. Retirees are stuck and many now live on tea and toast as it's all they can afford.

I went there just for a couple of things and 2 items were sold out and I noticed that they no longer have have of what they used to carry at the old store and I get the prices have gone way up but they're even more expensive! I definitely won't be shopping there again when we go to Ely I'll be bringing food with us if we're going to be there for a few hours.

If you're into meat, they have a great meat department. If you're a vegetarian... they have okay produce. Don't expect city level produce here.I do enjoy their store branded breads. Love the cinnamon burst.Stuff is more expensive than in the cities, but that's normal for a remote town.Not the biggest selection of items, but not the worst.They will walk your groceries out to your vehicle.This might all change soon as they've bought out Northland and will be combining to a bigger store.

They have just about everything plus they carry Dorothy's root beer and packages of mn wild rice too! There is a public restrooms available inside the store. The staff is friendly and thr layout of the store is nice and simple so it's easy to find items.

Deli is regrettably small and seldomly open...even on busy summer Saturdays. Aisles crowded with non-food merchandise makes navigation frustrating.

Love love love this grocery store. Everytime I step in it just smells like home. When I come back to you with this is always over if my first stops to get all my favorite goodies. It's clean, well organized, staff is friendly and the food is delicious. I always make sure to get my pressed penny when I enter and can't leave without some pasties. The family is amazing and is always there for the community as well. You couldn't ask for more.
