I recently stopped here for breakfast, and I’m so glad I did! I’m bummed I wasn’t able to grab lunch and dinner. My breakfast sandwich was delicious! I loved both the bacon and the sausage. This sandwich definitely filled me up for a long, active day. Service was great, we were seated right away outdoors. I highly recommend stopping at this gem in Ely!

Delightful and truly quality for good prices. Was in Ely for a week and between my husband and I we went here like 8 times. He is a huge fan of the breakfast. I am vegetarian/pescatarian and appreciate how easily they were able to accommodate. I think their Friday-Sunday dinner specials are actually their best kept secret! Nice beer and wine selection was super appreciated for lunch and dinner. The to-go pastries and coffee are perfect if you don’t have time for a sit down breakfast. Front and back patio if you want to eat outside.

The new Supper Club for 2022 is incredible! For the first day running the German food section, everything was very well prepared and some of the best German I've had (after growing up w/ German food my whole life!). Staff was very welcoming and friendly, and we had some fun banter teaching them some pronunciations of the German foods after we were practicing ourselves. Absolutely worth stopping by!

Outstanding! I was looking at pictures from a summer trip to my cousins cabin in Ely and realized I had not given a shout out for the Moose. It is time for me to makes amends. The Chocolate Moose was the first place we went for breakfast during our stay in Ely. We were a party of 7 and choose to sit outside on the patio. If you have good weather, I always say, take advantage of it and dine outside.Katherine was our server and she was fabulous. She not only provided us with good service, but she was witty and gave good banter. I personally was in rare form that morning and she matched me wit for wit. It made for a fun breakfast.I was raised on a farm, so I love Biscuits and Gravy. When I saw that they made their biscuits in house and the gravy was a buttermilk recipe, I knew what I having for breakfast. The B&G came with two sausage patties and I knew it was going to be a busy day, so I added a side of two eggs scrambled to make it a hearty breakfast. OMG, the biscuits were fluffy and flakey and the buttermilk gravy was full of flavor and chunks of sausage. Loved it.My cousin sitting next to me enjoyed the, Bacon Benedict. It was an English Muffin topped with bacon and poached eggs and covered in "bacon fat' hollandaise. Now that is a "hollandaise" sauce worth treating yourself in the morning. It came with a side of, home fries. I sampled the sauce and it made me smile.Three of wanted mimosas and Katherine recommend the, Mimosa Bottle Special instead of single mimosas. When we followed her advice, she was kind enough and split the cost in thirds. Another reason we loved her. The bottle special is a carafe of orange juice and a full bottle of bubbles (champagne). Now that is how you should start a vacation breakfast.Let me close, sharing a note from the bottom of their menu -A 6% service fee is added to your bill to support a living wage for our back of house employees. Pursuant to Minnesota Statute Section 177.23 subdivision 9, it is not a substitute for tip or gratuity.Vegetarian options: LimitedParking: Street Parking

My breakfast burrito was delicious and my wife had the eggs Benedict. We can tell it was all homemade. We did our ordering with our phones just clicking on a QR code. Not including tips with a couple cups of coffee it was about $32. Historic restaurant name that they brought back. I would recommend it.

My partner is celiac (and will get sick for days) and the waiter and chef have been both knowledgeable, helpful and accommodating. We’ve now had breakfast & dinner there — both meals have been great and we really appreciate the service and feeling so welcomed there. Mustache guy is amazing, keep up the great work team 🌟

Nice staff. Got the walleye. Fries were great. Walleye tasted too fishy for me. The shop next door is a 5*****

Stopped in here after a week in BWCAW, and breakfast was everything our sodden psyches and wilting bodies needed. After a cup of nicely balanced coffee, a handmade sausage patty, and three bites of perfectly spiced and crispy home fries, we were able to employ basic reasoning skills again. A further few bites of eggs, bacon, and homemade blackberry jam on an English muffin, and we recovered feeling in our hands and feet. By the time we cleaned our plates, we felt human again! In seriousness, this is a cool, smallish (though seating does not feel crowded at all), log cabin style building with a small menu of food made exceptionally well. Service was excellent. 10:30am on a Sunday is a bit early for me to be enjoying beers or mixed drinks, but lots of other patrons seemed to be enjoying a good variety thereof. Bathrooms are right around the corner in the adjacent gear and clothing store, which contains both the silly 'fashionable' clothing made by gear brands - but also a section of actual, legitimate gear to draw you in after a tasty meal. Looking forward to coming back!

Wonderful service. Amazing food. Had the Italian dinner. Amazing pasta and sauces. Get the fried artichoke hearts! Chicken piccata and steak were perfect entrees.

I ordered the walleye fillets, and my compliments to the chef! This was the best fish I have had since moving to the USA from Australia nearly 2 years ago!!

Service was great, and food was good. No complaints there! The main thing I disliked was that they add 6% to every bill in order to "pay the staff a living wage". I'm all for paying people a living wage, but that's the responsibility of the management, not me. This is just a shady way to charge more than the advertised price. I would have happily paid $1 more for each thing I ordered, but I'm not happy with the management shifting responsibility to the customer for paying their staff a living wage in a scummy way.

I ordered single patty cheeseburger which was thin and filled half the bun, which was stale. My wife ordered walleye and cole slaw. The walleye breading was full of grease and so hard, it could not be cut with a fork. The cole slaw barely had any dressing. Worst meals we have ever had. However, our waitress was very good and provided good service.

“So good!” is what we kept saying to the wait staff. Steak frites and pork chop Normandy are not to be missed. Creative cocktails and eponymous dessert rounded out an alert excellent experience. Thank you!Kid-friendliness: Kids menu, coloring sheet + crayons

Service and food were good, but we were really confused to find out they are currently serving Mexican food?? We visited July 2023 and were expecting comfort food like burgers and such (as shown on Google), but was given a menu with tacos, tostadas, chips and quac, etc. At least they had chocolate moose for dessert! We were disappointed the menu wasn’t as advertised and a bit overpriced.

Hands down, this is the best restaurant in Ely. The food here is always excellent, prepared perfectly and the service is fantastic.I usually get the plain cheeseburger and fries and I always love it. I tried the beef brisket sandwich special (as recommended by the server) the last time I was there and was amazed! It was incredibly tender and flavorful. One of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten. My wife usually gets the Amazing Grains bowl and my daughter gets the Impossible burger with tots. Both are always excellent.Definitely the place to eat at when in Ely!

I had been to The Chocolate Moose a couple years ago while my husband and I were in the area on vacation and really enjoyed it, so I was very excited to return for breakfast this past weekend with my child that has never been to Ely! We were seated right away, but the prices went way up from last time and I understand that prices everywhere are going up and I was willing to pay the extra because I remember it being so good! My husband had the biscuit and gravy, my daughter had the kids pancake with the extra whip cream & sprinkles, and I had the blueberry pancakes. I remember from my last visit their orange juice was AMAZING, so all three us ordered orange juice. I was very disappointed when I was handed a bottle of minute maid orange juice. Once our food arrived, mine and my daughters food was fine, nothing special, but my husband couldn't even finish his meal. He is no where near a picky eater and normally eats everything on his plate, but he didn't even finish half the meal. He said it was the worst biscuit and gravy that he has ever had. I was highly disappointed in all of our meals and once we received the check for our meal, I noticed a 6% charge. Apparently, its for the workers in the back... It would of been nice to be told that by someone, but instead I only found it in small print on the kids menu. I paid $50 for pancakes, biscuits & gravy, and 3 orange juices. The service also has declined, we were waited on by 4 different people, and none of them were really friendly. We even heard one of the workers (a man with a beard) becoming upset with another worker (a woman with brown hair) about something behind the counter. I don't think we'll be returning because of the quality of food, poor service, and the 6% price increase.

Loved the German food menu for the supper club. Prices were a great value for the quality & amount of food. Our leftovers were enough for a 2nd meal. The house-made Braunschweiger app was a wonderful treat. Service staff was super friendly and attentive.

I ordered the Amazing Grains Bowl. It was truly amazing. Our server was top notch. The atmosphere was very warm and welcoming. I need the recipe for their incredible vegan housemade pesto dressing. If I did not live 90 miles away, I would go there everyday for this salad.

One of the best restaurants in Ely! We were fortunate enough to be in Ely during one of their pop up nights. From the fresh pasta to special wines to the delectable desserts… it was a treat! For lunch we recommend the walleye or the Philly cheesesteak sandwich.

Wow!It's so fun to have a quality dining experience in Ely. The food and energy at this place are outstanding. Prices are just right and the portions are huge. With friendly staff and a great location, I can't wait for my next chance to get back and enjoy more of the menu.Side note: An order of Fancy fries AND a burger is a lot of food. Plan to share. Oof, I'm still full.

Very north woods feel, Perkins prices, excellent small cafe food and service. Excellent combination. Menu is not overwhelming which is a nice change.Vegetarian options: I didn't get any vegetarian options but they have a lot of them on the menu.

The service was great and our waitress was very friendly. The food however was average at best. The salad was small and pretty plain. We had the walleye entree and the fish was overcooked and the portion was very small, particularly when compared to other portions that we had at other restaurants in the area. Based on the portion size, the price was a little high for the dish. Would probably pass on this restaurant the next time i am in the area.
