Stayed overnight in the Indigo Suite with a friend. What a gem! This place doesn't scream "fancy," but it is clean, charming and well-equipped, with a location in town that can't be beat. In addition to the free coffee/pastry available just down the street (get the cranberry wild rice scone, it's sooooo good!), we enjoyed the cozy fireplace and used the kitchen to make ourselves a nice breakfast.Only things to note would be the TV wasn't working properly when we got there (after some fiddling we eventually got it to work) and personally I thought the mattress was a bit saggy/uncomfortable. My roommate slept well though. We loved the Indigo Suite as it's on the top floor and feels more private (rooms on the main level are RIGHT off the kitchen, which could be convenient or annoying. The two rooms on the second level also neighbor each other). With thoughtful amenities like a little library, a few board games, free bath products etc., we would not hesitate to stay here again.

This was a super cute cozy place! The room was nice and clean. The towels were topped with a locally crafted mini bar of soap. There was a full kitchen and fireplace in the common area. It was all self service. Room got a little too warm. Not sure if the thermostat worked. Went down to Northern Grounds and enjoyed a complimentary great cup of coffee and a muffin as a part of our stay. Overall unique and fun experience.

The Stay Inn Ely was a perfect place to stay! It has a great location and short walk to many restaurants and shops. The rooms are really nice and has a cabin feel. We stayed here for our engagement, and the owners did a great job helping me out with it! They worked with me and a florist to get flowers delivered to our room after the proposal, and everything was setup perfectly. The hospitality was second to none, and we definitely will stay here again! We have also stayed at their Guest House on Jasper Lake in the past, which is another location I’d recommend to stay!

Enjoyed delicious breakfast treats provided by nearby Northern Grounds. Very friendly staff. Easy check in and check out process. Highly recommend Stay inn. Looking forward to returning here on our next trip!

My husband, dog, and I had a great time at Stay Inn Ely!! The common area and our room were very clean and comfortably decorated. The location was within walking distance to most everything in Ely. We enjoyed the coffee and pastries at the cafe and we are so glad we took out a canoe for a couple hours at Jasper Lake. We would definitely stay here again!

I’ve been coming up here for years and this was the perfect place to stay in Ely. It had everything you needed for cooking/grilling a quick meal. The bedroom and living room were clean and cozy with easy access to the patio we sat out on all night. Highly recommend staying here! This was our hotel the night before we launched into the Boundary Waters and it couldn’t have been better.

I have been staying at Stay Inn Ely periodically throughout the years, and now that I live in Ely I recommend everyone to go there! The updates are incredible, with each room being different from the others and SO comfortable. They bring fresh muffins and Northern Grounds coffee in the morning which is a nice touch. The beds and furnishings feel just like home, and being able to meet other guests is always fun. Having a self check in means no staff there- which is a huge bonus for those of us that like to travel comfortably and go by our own schedules. They answer the phones 24/7 for anything that might arise. The keyless entry is convenient and easy- you get what you pay for!

A very nicely renovated large home with lots of spacious common areas. Everything was exceptionally clean. I stayed in the Crimson room that was smaller but very bright and cozy and clean. Bathroom was spacious and clean. Secure Internet was very fast and accessible in the room. Excellent TV service as well. Central location in Ely so all shops and services are very accessible.

What a relief to find the Stay Inn. Last summer, I visited Ely for the seventh time. It's a great little town that is seriously lacking in decent accommodations. After 4 or 5 nights out in the bush, all I want is a good bed and a nice hot shower, and last time I visited, I discovered the Stay Inn. The bathrooms are updated, clean, and civilized. The bed was actually good, not just acceptable, but good. The common area is nicely decorated and comfortable. Oh my gosh, I can still feel the wonderful feeling of sliding my weary body into bed after our last trip. After years of spending my after paddling night in Ely tossing, turning, and wishing I was sleeping on the ground, the Stay Inn is the only place I'll stay when I'm in Ely.

We chose this place based on price and reviews alone (didn't see any room pics off the bat) and were NOT disappointed! What a sweet little spot - very clean, so homey, comfortable (I'm picky about my bedding!), and in a great location in Ely. We stayed for 3 nights with our 3 preschool kids and were so pleased. They even provided us with a Graco pack n play for our baby. We couldn't hear any of the other guests from our room and we had everything we needed and more. Muffins and fresh coffee in the morning were the perfect start to the day. We could bring and prepare our own food in the common kitchen or enjoy the local shops and restaurants. We stayed in the Indigo room. Our kids (and my hubby and I!) loved the cabiny feel and the unique little nooks! We're definitly coming back and the rest of our family has already decided to stay here when they want to visit but not camp near Ely too.

Quaint old world style inn. There are 5 different rooms in the inn. I have never known any hotel/motel and inn like Stay Inn. You'll be able to find the Stay Inn Ely online. Make reservations and two days before your arrival a welcome letter is sent via email. In the letter is your check-in instructions and a keyless code. When you arrive, the same letter or note is left on the site with the same instructions. We had an awesome room. You'll not be disappointed in your accomodations. We had fun while we were there. Very thoughtful people. Thank you so much for a great Stay Inn experience. Rated 5* plus.

Very cool place to stay. Not a quiet place to stay. So to speak. People come and go and thier pets aren't always quite. So be ready and you just might love it. Very cozy. We had lots of snow during our stay. They do have other fishing and Ely type of activities but that wasn't our thing this time. We just needed a place to lay our heads.

Love It Here!!!! We have stayed here every time we come to Ely!!. Location is great...within walking distance to downtown. The owners are very accessable and attentive to their guests! The pastries and coffee are delicious! Very clean... I especially like the common areas...getting up having a wonderful cup of Gene Hicks coffee...sitting in front of the fireplace if its chilly...on the deck/porch if its warmer!! One evening this past May we could even hear wolves howling and loons "singing"!! Love the availability of WiFi !! We recommend A Stay in Ely to everyone!!

Our 3rd time staying, the ivory room has been our favorite. There is a nice gas fireplace on the main floor and also a table and chairs on the deck outside. Shared dishes and mugs, just way and dry them yourself. In the morning you can just go up a block to the Northern Grounds and have coffee and a muffin on the house. We really enjoy the old refinished woodwork and the self service setup. You are given a keycode to get in the the main door and your room. Also the Boathouse Pub and Insula Restaurant are within easy walking distance so if you have an extra glass of wine or beer there should be no worries!

When calling to arrange our stay, the "hotel" number went directly to a private line with a woman's answering message.  The day of our stay, her number was not in service and we were worried about not checking in early enough- driving from Minneapolis to Ely can have that effect. The parking area was sand gravel and had no designated spots, yet off-street parking wasn't allowed.  Upon approaching the entry, there was a personalized note outlining details of our entry codes and stay.Within the first 5 minutes, we noticed that the "fireplace" was not lit and that we had no instructions for lighting it.  There was no apparent switch.  Within the next 5 minutes, we spotted a rather large wolf spider in the dining area, which my fiance helped to remedy. The floors didn't seem to be swept, there were no rugs, there were stains on the comforter which one would assume from bodily excretion and nothing about this "house" was soundproofed to any hotel standard. The private amenities are limited to a walk-in shower stall, toilet, sink, dresser, towl rack with towels, solid wood chair with no cushion, neatly made yet stained bed and microscopic tv too far away for comfortable viewing. All other amenities mentioned in marketing are shared and thus not selling points.  A house that's cleaned once per day is still a house- not a hotel.Although this is the only current 4.8/5 rated- $80 per night stay in Ely; I would have gladly paid $100 for a room where I couldn't hear every movement in the commons areas.  This is a mediocre establishment in an area for tourism and needs to be outdone soon. The management needs to warn customers when they choose to allow a band to stay in half of the rooms- that it may turn into an Animal House and that one likely won't be able to sleep. Although they said this was a "rare incident," there was no partial refund offered and no one is accountable for taking responsibility. The "hotel" phone is only in service for a few hours per day, then turned off. The number which it forwards to is out of the service area more often than not. It would seem they avoid dealing with customers and their complaints.

We came back!! It was our second time here and we couldn’t get enough of this cute little home. We took advantage of the kitchen again, played chess and had some tea. It’s perfect for our time here while visiting Ely and would recommend The Stay Inn Ely to anyone coming to visit this wonderful town. #stayinnely #elymn #weekendgetaway #minnesota #hotellife #chess #tea #lovethis

I always try to book our night of arrival with Don. All of his places are extremely clean, quiet and in wonderful locations.Don also does a tremendous job with guiding fishing trips. Just ask my daughters.

Clean, relatively quiet (until the room above us was rented to people with a child that liked to move things and bang around), cozy, and the little interaction I had with the workers was friendly.

Great location and easy to find. There was some sand in the sheets but nothing a quick swipe didn't fix. Had a great night!
