Excellent experience with Canadian Waters! Used the bunk houses the night before the trip, which made everything easy! Had a shuttle to our entry point the next morning which was a great experience! Staff was friendly, very helpful and timely! They even provided cold drinks on the way out, which was a nice, refreshing touch!

The staff is very knowledgeable on all things Boundary Waters! Several people in our group were coming from out of state so renting all the gear and having Canadian Waters handle all the logistics made things very easy. We opted for the "supreme package" for gear rental and food for a 3 day trip. We ate VERY well and the gear was all excellent. Thier store is well stocked and fairly priced. Travel to and from entry points was right on time and comfortable. Highly recommend!

I have used Dan and his team over 10 times during the last 20 years. They are extremely knowledgeable. They are able to provide both top end gear and gear on a budget. Dan introduced me to the BWCA and I am grateful for everything he has taught me.

We've been using Canadian Waters for over ten years for all our canoe rentals and have been extremely pleased with the quality of service and friendliness of the whole staff. They are straight shooters and will always give you their honest opinion. In terms of the gear, we've had good luck with their aluminum canoes which are very well-maintained. Dan and his family make the check-in/check-out process a breeze and provide towels and access to the showers when your return from the woods. Also, we've been really happy with their bunk house, which is great if your arrive a night early. I can't recommend them highly enough.

My family has used Canadian Waters for several BWCA trips out of Ely. Dan (owner) is always so helpful with ideas & information when we're planning our entry points & routes. His team is friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Definitely recommend!

Great place, great service. We stopped for a shower because most places were closed. Not only got a shower, but a nice chat as well. I would recommend for sure.

We had a Groupon that was a complete outfitting except food.I have been up outfitted for the last 12 years and this was the worst.Bunk houses not ready, we showed up just as locking and did not have sleeping gear in the cabin. They did not recognize that we had the complete kit. So we had to ask for the gear. Including paddles and life vest.The tent we got leaked in the 3 days of rain we had as there was literally duck tape patching it. All our gear in the tent was wet.The packs provided were not the nice gear packs that are padded and having straps which are a must for portaging.Unfortunately, I would say just be aware as their gear is not what I would expect from an outfitter. I have had great experiences with Voyager and Sawbill for the same or less money.

My family and I have used Canadian Waters for over 15 years. Would recommend Dan and Co to anyone, friendly, knowledgeable and honest. You could definitely pay a lot more for fancier equipment but you would be hard pressed to find better people.

Went shopping in downtown Ely and stopped into Canadian Waters, what made this store great is they are pet friendly and allowed our dog inside while we shopped, they even gave our dog a nice dog treat.When I pass through Ely I won't hesitate to stop in and see if they have something I'm interested in. Today it was an Ely ball cap but I'm pretty sure I could find something else if I tried.

They claim to have "All the newest and lightest gear!"This is undeniably false.Their gear was old, worn and not up to par with what you would expect from their "Complete Supreme Ultra Light Weight Outfitting" package. Alps tents (which are cheap and heavier than most tents onthe market), tarps with numerous patches, holes and leaks, old cook sets that look like they've been used since the Vietnam war and outdated sleeping bags and packs. The claims they make on their website regarding theith gear are far from the truth. Do your research and find an outfitter that rents gear that is actually usable.

Beautiful architectural design makes this building a landmark in Ely. Pleasant atmosphere. Unique selection of camping, canoeing, fishing gear makes this store my first stop every time I go to Ely.
