Great place. I learned so much here about how to give my parrots the best possible life! Not only can I rest easy knowing that everything sold here has been researched and proven to be bird safe, but I also receive a lot of free advice. If I'm concerned about my bird, he'll take the time to look at pictures and share his lifetimes worth of scientific knowledge to help me out when he's not too busy.Please, if you're ever here, listen to Terry--his experience, knowledge, and advice really are well researched and backed by scientific evidence.Also, can't beat that small business customer service!Some of the prices can be a little on the higher side, but that's because it's all high quality, ethically/safely sourced, well researched, bird safe, and human grade. If that's out of your price range, the owner will still help point you in the right direction to find something as safe as possible, even if that might end up not being at his store. He'll be honest about the pros and cons. Very cool guy

Best shop so far - I’ve had birds for 30 years across five cities, and Parrot Island is the best. If every business modeled themselves after PI, the world would be in a better place. There is no disposable plastic garbage or mass-produced “food” here. Every item is ethically made/sourced, and the owner KNOWS his stuff.

We've been customers of Parrot Island for over 20 years. The extremely knowledgeable and helpful staff/owners take their time to answer your questions and help you get the best products for your birds. They only sell quality products that they themselves use for their own birds. Simply put, we would never consider buying food, supplies, or toys from anywhere else.

Terry is such a wonderful resource for parrot owners in the Twin Cities and beyond. Having been a part of the Avian Veterinary Assn, he knows everything there is to know about parrot care. I am a newish owner of a white capped pionus parrot, and he has given me an awesome vet referral and great suggestions on toys, food, etc. I bought a couple of java branches from this store that are the perfect fit for my parrot. It is worth spending the extra money in-person, as there is no guarantee what kind of tree/branches you'll be getting when you order them online. Everything there is ethically sourced, well researched, so consider it money well spent when buying his products.So grateful for Parrot Island!

If you have a parrot, this is the store for you! We've been going here for a couple years now to buy food and toys for our parrots. The owner of the store is incredibly knowledgeable (retired avian veterinarian) and he's always been more than willing to share his knowledge. I've learned a lot from him, and knowing the toys here are all bird safe is a relief as well. Would recommend to anyone with parrots.

The owner is very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable! My favorite part was the supplies for making your own bird toys. I'm quite picky about what my bird toys are made of (no cotton or plastic), so it was great to be able to choose materials and make them myself. I had fun making Pickle his own bird toy, and he went to work right away on destroying it. 😊❤️ It was definitely worth the drive from Mankato and I will be coming again when I have the chance!

Expert advice and truely cares about your bird and quality food, toys and supplies. The owner is a real Avian Vet. I will not go anywhere else and worth the drive. The owner will however consult with you over health and behavior issues and make recommendations over the phone then shipping food and supplies to you if needed. I am so thankful. Please visit you will not be disappointed. The membership brings the price down well worth it for sales and discounts.

They have a huge variety of toys, food and everything bird. The quality of the seed is very good but have your wallet ready because its almost $50 for 4lbs. It is quality but I think it's still to high. Lots of profit there.

Parrot Island is the only place I go for supplies for our Green Cheek Conure, Yoshi. I try to hit all the sales and have gotten some really good deals. I love that they offer already assembled toys, but also supplies to make your own bird toys. A very well rounded inventory. Everything from the upgraded cage, to toys and treats and the new climbing net, we’ve never been disappointed. More than all of that, though, is the personal attention and education I’ve received. Terry is so knowledgeable and enthusiastic to share what he knows. I always plan to spend at least an hour so I can pick his brain while shopping if it’s not too busy. My husband and I are grateful to have this place near where we live in the Twin Cities, but honestly, I’d drive two hours if I had to. The education alone is worth the time.

I 💜 Parrot Island! It is a little far from me but I don't care! I enjoyed talking to Terry and Shari Beaudoin who are so very friendly and kind. I could have stayed, talked and been educated all day if my daughter didn't have an appointment the day I visited. 🤣I grew up with Parakeets but that was many moons ago when I was very young and I have my first female Vosmaeri Eclectus who's name is 🍓 at fifty years old.The majority of the pictures are of me and my children with 🍓 but with will see the GORGEOUS carrier I bought from Parrot Island. Sturdy, Beautiful and will last a lifetime!!

Just an incredible store if you own a bird! Store is run by knowledge aviary veterinarian which makes it worth a visit just to ask questions about caring for your bird. Its always a pleasure to visit the store!

The place was pristine, my only guess is that is because no one shops there. My husband and I drove half an hour to look for a more reliable source for high quality seed mix for our birds. No one but us were in the store. My ten-year-old disabled daughter was very interested in the acrylic foraging toys and showing me ones she thought our parrots would like. We have birds, we buy high quality toys for them and know the acrylic ones are fragile and expensive. I'm sorry I was allowing her to explore and was quite prepared to purchase if something were to have broken. If they were concerned otherwise, there is a polite way to ask my child not handle the toys. Instead she was told not to play with them and I was reminded that the toys were expensive, that he's a small business and would lose money, that he's "not Target". My husband and I have never been so insulted. We politely collected our daughter and left. I didn't even have a chance to see the entire store that we WERE prepared to spend money at. We will certainly not be stepping in that store ever again.

Stopped by here on a whim while I was in town visiting from Illinois and have no regrets. Absolutely the best and widest selection of bird toys and perches I've seen in one place. I got a few unique hanging toys that the store makes by hand and then a whole bunch of small trinkets I'm going to use for foot toys/foraging. I'm especially curious to see how Pesto (pictured, with some of the toys) will love the little pods. I plan on "hiding" some choice treats in them!While I was there, a woman and her daughter came in looking for things for some parakeets they recently got. The gentleman working took the time to go over with them good, proper care with perches, dishes, and cage sizes. Parakeets especially in the pet trade tend to be chronically neglected and seen as inexpensive, often temporary pets. One of my parakeets/budgies was a rescue we found outside that someone very clearly just abandoned, and it warms my heart to see someone who clearly cares very much about the care of every parrot, no matter how small.I only wish I was local to this store. Next time I'm in town, I'll be sure to visit again and I'll keep their website in mind!

It’s a great place to get supplies for your birds. The gentleman there seems very knowledgeable and is eager to share. The prices are a little more expensive then what you’d find online but being a small local store it’s to be expected. They do have a great selection and variety of bird toys, perches, food, etc. Would recommend checking them out - Just make sure to leave your feathered friends at home.

I've never had such an in-depth experience in a store before. Just WOW! If you want to shop casually, the owner doesn't hound you. If you have questions, this guy is an expert in all things bird and is genuinely trying to help people navigate the world of living with these beautiful creatures. This store is clean. This store is organized. This store has literally everything you need to help you care for your birds. On top of that, he has an in store record to help navigate which products will and won't work for our feathered friends. Please support this business, not big-name pet stores. 🙏

I was referred here by a friend and am SO happy I was! Great supply of high quality toys, perches, cages and food. The owners are very generous with their knowledge (answers to questions are very thorough, they will give honest opinions, do not expect a quick Q&A). They put a lot of effort into ensuring the products are safe for parrots. Prices are fair for the quality of products available. The membership is worth it if you plan to purchase from them regularly and take advantage of sales.
