We ate at the buffet and played in the casino. We have been to the buffet a few times and it definitely is not worth the price paid. We keep hoping for improvements but it seems to be getting worse instead of better. We usually visit on prime rib night (Friday). Never busy and the food is usually below average. The service is hit and miss.The casino is nice and very clean. We play the slots and have walked out with an extra hundred or so. We will be back and will also try the buffet again. I recommend casino and buffet, but don't expect anything other than average.

Went for breakfast. The buffet was great, and our waitress very nice and prompt removing dirty dishes.Cons. The bathroom stall in restaurant needs to be scrubbed down, although rest of bathroom is clean.Went in gift shop, instruct the staff to stay off their phone please, the whole time I was in there she was towards the back of the shop on it. That is poor customer service and I walked out without buying because of that.

Had the Prime Rib and Shrimp buffet on 12/15. 15 varieties of shrimp, the ones I tried were great. Au gratin potatoes awesome. Clam chowder meat and tasty. Really came hungry for prime rib, but was disappointed, it was overdone and dry. Could not finish it after it cooled off. Cold, tough and dry. Desserts were excellent as usual. Our server was mostly absent. The dining room host had to get our drink refills, she was a delightful lady.

Just stopped by after work to drop a couple bucks in the machine. Very nice and clean.My luck hasn't changedPlenty to do there. Restaurants, good shows, nice Hotel. Buffet. Next time Bingo.

I was here several times since I moved home and asked every time about signing up and promos, but was told Black Bear and Fonduluth are the same players card. Could've cared less about my questions and seemed bothered I wanted more clarification. I stick to online casinos now because at the level I play I used to get mailers for free play and rooms, dinners etc. To come in and told conflicting things was not how it used to be. So to answer your reply just treat each player like a vip till they prove otherwise because online pays out instant and always have offers thrown at me especially to match my level.No promotional incentives. Just like fonduluth they don't care if you go here and it's completely opposite in about any other place. Do not waste your money and just south a bit is a couple way Better hotels and casinos so up to you.

Waited 3 1/2 hours to go to buffet only to find out the meal was $39.99 a person. Seafood night. No discount for children who will hardly eat $40 worth of food. We already waited so long we went in. $299.28 for 7 people to eat uncooked chicken, hard as rock overcooked breaded shrimp, dry chicken kiev. The salad was good though. Won't go back

Checked into our room with our dog. We unload the car and get all of our belongings in car come back to our dog with a hypodermic needle stuck in it's mouth called the front desk he wasn't to concerned told us to just leave it on the dresser for the housekeeper to grab when they clean after seeing our dog with a needle we decided to check the room better rotten tomatoes under the bed this is the first time something like this has ever happened to us here I enjoyed the 4 hr drive here and staying here every weekend!!!

If you're looking for a casino that treats its guests right look elsewhere. in 2023 I became a Sapphire member- the highest players card tier. at the end of the year I EARNED (their words) a voucher for a free cruise (after spending almost half a million dollars). I recently went to book the cruise when I was informed you need to be 21+ to book the cruise. I am not 21+. I went into the players club to see if we could work something out where I get a different perk or something I could at least use since all the other sapphire members get to take their cruise. I was pretty much told too bad so sad get lost... So if you want some good perks that you can actually use go anywhere but here. Extremely disappointed with Black Bear.

The seafood buffet gas gone down hill compared to 1.5 years ago. Not much for seafood except the crab legs. The price is still worth it for the crab legs but I won't be ranting and raving about it like I used too. Ice cream used to be amazing and now its strawberry and vanilla. The desserts tasted like they had been sitting out for days.

Took my parents there for crab day, the crab legs were really dry. Mashed potatoes were thick like ice cream bars. Prime steak was also dry. Desserts tasted like leftovers like it's been sitting for couple days.This place used to be really good at serving fresh food but now it's not worth it. Especially when they increased the buffet price!

The rooms have jumped in prices since they did the tear down of the pool and arcade. And there is nothing for children to do now. Sadly we have to go elsewhere so kids are not bored with nothing to do but sit in the room. Used to be our number one place to go.Rooms: They are nice and clean. Beds are not bad.Safety: They always have security near all exits and patrolling outside and the casino floor.Walkability: There really isn't much neaby.Food & drinks: The buffet is ALWAYS a great choice something for everyone.

We stay overnight o 1/29the worse time with our room 1st it cost us 200.00 for the night.2nd there was a water leak so water was shut off.when came on water was brown as can be no hot water yet when we left next morning. The lightening was bad you couldn't even read. You need different lighting. During the night the furnace sounded like water running through the walls. Then went down to have something to eat the restaurants not open yet so we went to the deli open at 11am so we played we until 11:10 went back and a sign said on break be back at 1130. If your going to charge 200.00 a night when we paid 99.00 in September everything should be in working condition.Noteworthy details: Kept losing internet

We decided to take a short holiday into the States. On our way home, we decided to stay at Black Bear because we remember the delicious buffet and hopping casino. What happened, Black Bear? That buffet was like going to Golden Corral... just keep refrying the leftovers.. They'll never notice. Yuck! The lamb was so raw I thought I heard it bahahing! And the next morning there was no hot water. And what did they do for us? Nothing. Just deal with it. I can guarantee you, I will never be back.

Seafood buffet is a joke. Waited 40 minutes to get the crab trays filled up and once you got through about half of the tray they were all just knuckles and single pieces. Definitely don’t come for seafood buffet thinking you’ll get more than two plates of crab. STRAIGHT UP JOKE

The sage deli has great food with great prices, especially love their breakfast yum.Rooms are boring. The casino never wins. Or at least the last 1200 visits I've been there, I haven't won. (I've lived really close all of my 30 years and have never gotten a hand pay. Been there ALOT) I win more at other casinos all day.Noteworthy details: Sage deli 👌

Today was one of the worst experiences I have ever had at a hotel. Signs saying there is renovations going on. That's fine. But 730 in the morning power tools are being run right above me? Maybe put people as far away from the noise as possible? Nope, right under it. 7:30 in the morning. Black bear is being run right into the ground. The resort needs to come off the name bc this isn't a resort. Used to have a pool and hot tub here. Nope, had to rip the old hotel out because of mold issues. Used to have an ice cream parlor. Gone. Used to have an arcade. Gone. There is literally nothing drawing people and families here anymore. I think management needs an overhaul and maybe even the tribal council. Worst casino and hotel in the entire state. Even worse than shooting star.

Writing a review for casino slot play. ... So, playback should be something right? Hell to the no, not here. My ol man dropped over 2 grand in one JUST one machine in over 8 hours. INCLUDING the bonuses ( which 90%) was literally a zero bonus round out of my guess is 20 ) Yes I am not kidding. Even retrigger was a zero bonus. Refuse to pay on a big bet. $3.75, 2.50, 1.25. He won on .25 which is the small percentage. They are tightening up the machines to pay for their hotel renovation. Wedding Party to be exact!! Couldn't even win a hot seat that day for all the loss he had...They take money, give none to to constant all day long players and have absolutely no remorse for draining them. It's no wonder why we quit going awhile back and went to Hinkley. Mistake thinking they may have changed. Nope. They didn't. Matt Billings is the only winner at this place. They draw his name every time. Twice in one night too....go back to the paper ticket drum , maybe you'll get more clientele. Smmfh. I hope the State sees this and investigates, although it really doesn't matter because the fine is cheaper than the payouts which is why they tighten the machines, so I have heard...... from the inside.

Not a gambler, was there for an event. Room was really nice -clean, comfortable, had a cozy chair and a variety of charging options.Staff were pleasant.Rooms: Clean and good use of space. Love the flooring! (weird, right?)

This place is clean and non smoking, even in the casino part. The TVs seem small but the reservation desk said in the next few weeks they are getting new ones. Everyone who worked there was very friendly and helpful. We arrived on a Monday evening, no food available because not enough staff. They currently only do a sea food buffet on Thursday. Will definitely stay again!

The food exceeded our expectations, particularly the prime ribs at the carving station, which were absolutely fantastic! The highlight of the dining experience was definitely the carving station; it was truly exceptional.However, we were disappointed with the limited variety of options compared to previous visits. The seafood selection was particularly lacking, as there was only one type of fish available. Furthermore, the seafood dishes quickly ran out and unfortunately, they were not replenished. Instead, they were replaced with vegetables, which was not what we were hoping for.On a brighter note, the dessert selection was outstanding! The cakes had a delightful mild sweetness, and we thoroughly enjoyed their delectable flavors.The staff members were a standout in their exceptional service. They were incredibly friendly and attentive, making our dining experience all the more enjoyable.

They had 2 blackjack tables open on a Saturday night. There was a huge crowd wanting to play and they never opened all the empty tables. I wouldn't go here expecting to play any card games. No roulette either, literally only slots.

In Love with the new remodeled casino in which is now a resort! And their buffet is to absolutely die for with each day the menu changes with something different! From seafood, To a lake Superior fish extravaganza! And go and have some fun while trying your luck the tables or maybe your better with playing at slots? And if you end up staying to late. . . No worries there! Catcin some Zzzz's at there beautiful cozy rooms isn't such a bad ideal after all!! The only down fall is the distance.. and that now after the pandemic it doesn't stay open 24/7 anymore only on those weekends otherwise it closes down a 2am.. some of us are night owls and for everything else in the towns around us and they're more for.. what is weatherby to do at night besides play at the casinos? It's a highly recommended go to I would say to give it a go and enjoy! For sure!

I had a ball. It closes at 2am. But that was good because I left with my winnings. And then came back to the same machine later the next afternoon and hit for $960.00 on the same machine.It's a great place, it's only a 3 because I live in the cities and it was a nice little ride from here to there. But I will be back on a free weekend.

We enjoyed our visit to Black Bear Casino Resort. The casino itself has a good variety of games and machines. Our room was spacious and the bed was comfortable. They have a few dining options, which was nice. The rooms could use a little updating, if anything (just normal wear and tear). It smelled smokey in the hallway, which permeated into the room, despite it being a non-smoking place, but i would put the blame for that on other guests, not the hotel.We would return! A good deal on a nice room!

The rooms are not great at all. They say under renovation, great, so put a microwave, fridge, some added touch to the disappointing rooms to show customers good faith that you will improve and actually show you care about customers. The buffet is pretty good, if it's fresh. Staff at the buffet isn't overly friendly, but it's a buffet. There are lots of choices for slots, and it seems like there is plenty of winning to keep people there.Time will tell on the rooms, but until the renovations are done, I wouldn't stay there again.
