My first time to this town and it was a very good experience. The town, though small had everything to sustain you and family without going too far. Coming from Brainerd it wasn't a bad trip be sure to have gas in your car though, you wouldn't want to be that person that ran out of gas to or from. The county fair was very good none the less, I thoroughly enjoyed everything they had there to show and tell, eat and drink. The bingo games put on by the Solomon Lodge was very good, best i've seen in a minute, very orderly. The grounds was adequate for the events that were happening, good "paid" parking spots, RV spots, lots of rest rooms, ATM's, shaded areas, etc.. It was a good environment for both young and old, there was something there to keep you engaged. Next year with definitely see me again..

Another great get together as we went over to Barnum to the Carlton county Fair. Best cheeseburger was at the Barnum School Booth. The seal show was very entertaining and everyone enjoyed the show. Always see so many people I know and on Friday the weather was perfect.

I personally think that it needs to be in a better area.... Parking was a pain. $10 to get into the fair. But, loved the seal show, good fair food. They have an old school house to tour. Old locomotives....

Had a lot of fun, got to hold a baby kangaroo!! The pork chop on a stick was awesome, and so was the mini doughnuts!! Alot to see and a great place to bring the kids.

If you have children you definitely need to make it to the fair this year, it ends Sunday! There is so much for younger children to do. We had such a great time yesterday. My 1 year old daughter was able to ride some of the rides at the Midway and I was able to carry her through the Mirror Maze. She also was able to ride a real horse for $6. We loved the Petting Zoo and all the extra animals they have there to see and touch. The shuttle was the final perfect ride back to our vehicle it was a tractor that pulled a big trailer with seats and a covered top. Hopefully my extra details help you decide to go and enjoy it as much as we did.

Carlton County Fair was amazing. It was my husband's and myself first time ever at attending; And it was amazing. Had a lot of fun. We didn't ride any rides or play any games. But we had fun walking around and looking at the farm animals and getting to pet them. And looking at the different exhibits and talking to people.

This fair was a bit of a disappointment. I understand the entrance fee. I dont understand the extra fee for each event in the grandstand. Horse racing, derby, etc... you have to pay for each event. Isn't that what the entrance fee is for? Or a whole day grandstand fee? The worst part was the rides. Unliminted ride wristbands were only good for four hours. There is only one ticket booth and they will not sell them in advance. So, we spent 40 minutes of that time in line to get the wristbands. Then all the lines for rides got long at the exact same time because everyone got wristbands at the same time and we could not get on a ride one minute after even though we were in line before time was up. Unless... you buy more ride tickets! Lol!!! It felt like a bunch of stunts to make more money.The food and other stands are great and the animals are always amazing!

Really expensive to get in with just a family of 3. No rides besides the gravatron, tilterwhirl, no claw games, shooting games, ring toss, etc. Huge waste of time, gas and money. There was nothing that appealed to my 13yr old or my nine year old. The prices really need reworking if you are not going to have but 4 rides no ferris wheel no games to pass the time, it was pretty dismal. However, all the fairs in Minnesota have become just as exciting as a parade as far as I'm concerned. At least a parade is free though

The staff did amazing job at the fair I think the Muni in the beer garden failed , they over served, underage drinking was going on around the fair, some highly intoxicated people wrecked it for the fun for some families that should have been cut off or kicked out. Next year change the spot of where the beer garden is and add bathrooms that are close to there

It's an ok place. Going to be honest, when I was a kid there were a lot more attractions and a good variety of games and vendors. It's still a real good place to take kids to ride rides, see animals and the races are amazing!! I visit every year because I grew up in the area. Vendors are fair to good in prices, HAVE to stop in at B&B Market booth and get a Johnny on a Bun. If you've never visited before, you'll enjoy yourself quite a bit. Entry prices are real good and I believe they do still offer wrist band and military appreciation days too:)

I have been going to the Carlton County Fair for most of my life. It is the cleanest, friendliest, most well organized fair I have ever visited. I grew up in Moose Lake with Susan Gustafson and I was so happy to see her, Roger and their family honored today as the Farm Family of the Year. They are wonderful folks and they deserve this show of respect and support.I will be coming to the "Barnum Fair" every year for as long as I am able.Thank you all for all you do to keep this tradition alive and healthy.Shari Carlson (Dunn).

So I found out last Thursday Carlton County was named after a man whose last name was Carlton. And the night after that my horoscope said I’d soon find out about a historical figure who everyone think is cool but they’re actually a bad person. I really really hope it’s not him, but it is kind of a crazy coincidence. I’ll post updates if I have any.

By far the best fair in northern MN. Now I'm not into midway stuff, so I don't count that at all in my ratings.First the place is accessible. You don't have to walk miles just to get to the gates.Prices are reasonable to enter, even the food is reasonable. And there are some varieties. You can clog an artery with deep fried Oreos, or have an egg roll.This fair has vendors. We have found vendors few and far between at other fairs in the area. Which I found very strange.The crowds? Not oppressive.I don't enjoy the huge fair because there are simply way too many people. This fair is well organised. And it shows. Its clean compact and the facilities are well stocked.

We spent alot of money to have pretty much sit on each other's laps for the derby you guys need to keep track of tickets sales and not pack stands so badly o and the rest was a mud pit

It might be time for the fair board to bring in a outside firm to judge the the car races and demo derby. It seemed to have some favortizum going on. The drivers were excellent & deserve an even chance to win. The fireworks were fabulous!

County Fair in southern Carlton County. Barnum. Animals shows and for showing your animals. Horse racing , Tractor pull and demo derby, Rides games and food small but fully packed with entertainment. Shouldn't be missed. Phill White

This is the best fair in this area, hands down. Plenty of animals, which is something many of the fairs around here lack. The barns are cute, and kept clean. Lots of food options and plenty of rides.

Terrible, hot-headed board of supervisors. Workers and friends of staff get different rules than everyone else visiting the fair, especially during the auto races.

Very rude and illegal how they thought they could make people stay for fireworks! Which was not very smart to shot them off that close to grand stand! Elderly people were climbing down bleachers in the dark trying to leave! Disrespect!!!!!
