I look forward to going to northern Minnesota and stopping by the Café for a hot beef sandwich with the best gravy you will ever taste. This is a must stop for every trip with large portions of great home style cooked breakfasts and lunches, good service. The café is shared with a bait shop and works for me but might not for others, stop in its worth it.

First time here in a very long time. Actually thought it was closed! Based on other good reviews, we gave it another try. Food was good, not stellar. My husband tried the biscuits and gravy. The sausage was tasty but two large patties is more than anyone needs. Toast was homemade bread and that WAS stellar! Eggs were fresh and cooked perfectly to order.Service was attentive until a bunch of large groups came in wanting to be seated together. The three women working were running trying to accommodate, which left those of us already there to fend for ourselves, but understandable. They were working very hard.We will be back.

Wonderful experience! From the locals to the restaurant to the employees, we didn’t just feel welcomed, we felt at home.My husband and I went to the restaurant for take out this morning and we were pleasantly surprised by the entire experience. We were obviously out of place and everyone we encountered went out of their way to welcome us.The food was fantastic! I ordered the country friend steak and eggs. It was cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious! My husband ordered the biscuits and gravy. He couldn’t say enough about how tasty it was. He LOVED the biscuits.Don’t miss out on your chance to dine here while in Backus!As for my family, we are definitely returning!

Our waitress was slow at the beginning. However everyone was very friendly. The food was mediocre diner food but filled our bellies. We didn't check out the store but plan on sending my husband for some milk soon. As we were leaving we saw some lunch plates and those looked really good, kinda regretting breakfast.

Always friendly and fast service. Bait & tackle, guns & ammo, gas and convenience store, and an excellent place to sit down and enjoy or take out very good food with an up north atmosphere and the family, friendly feel you expect from up north Minnesota. Perfect for a fast service of an early morning hot meal before that early fishing or hunting excursion close to some of the best hunting and fishing in MN.

Twice in a row my food order for take out took 25 minutes. A hot beef sandwich that had about 3 tough pieces of roast beef in it. I did call and let them know but nothing was ever done about compensation. I won't be coming back. I finally got a SORRY RESPONSE AFTER MANY MONTHS. SORRY IS JUST A WORD TO ME...ACTION! LIKE MAKING THIS RIGHT WITH ME

I’m not sure what just happened. To all the other waitstaff but the short dark haired woman, you are all amazing and doing a great job.Food was good. If it was served to the correct table. I don’t want to drag a business but obviously waitressing is not the short dark haired lady’s strong suit and she should be moved to something not customer facing. The other staff were polite, friendly, and obviously bullied by this one woman.

I’ve been to this restaurant twice. The first time was great. The food was good and the server was nice. The second trip…my very hungry two year old and I arrived at 12:55. We were not greeted at all. A waitress walked near our table, looked at us and then turned around and went to the other side of the restaurant. No one came to our table until 1:10. 15 minutes we sat there with not so much as hello! When the waitress did come she made no apologies for the wait. My family won’t be coming back. It was a very unpleasant experience!

Excellent breakfast! Even though a long wait.Cassie, our waitress, handled the whole place by herself, every table filled!!! She had a smile for everyone! The Corner Store should be honoring this young lady!!!As for the dishwasher/ bus girl, she was not helpful to the waitress at all, took forever to bus tables, restock cups and glasses. She needed a manager to give direction.As for owner/ manager, non-existent!!! Where were they on a very busy day???

Our first impression of the place was the prices were very reasonable. As we sat down at a dirty table, we waited for someone to come clean it off for us, no one came so I had to grab a rag and clean it myself. Our waitress finally came and took our drink order, but then proceeded to gave us the wrong drinks. As we're waiting for our food to come we watched the other waitress stand around gossiping, refusing to help each other out. They would leave food in the window because it wasn't their table, even if it meant sitting in the window for 5-10 minutes. After almost 50 minutes of waiting for our food, it came out cold from sitting in the window, and my wife's eggs were cooked completely wrong. We were then tossed our bill right after receiving our food, and ignored the rest of our meal. We will never come back again.

Food is great, friendly service & reasonable prices. The younger female cook likes to sing out of tune with her radio blarring to gospel music ALL THE TIME breakfast/lunch & dinner. This is major turn off and very annoying! Otherwise we are locals and LOVE this place!!!

Good basic food to eat. Not spectacular but good enough. Service was perfect, kind and on time. Breakfast food is what I got and it was fine. Pancakes the size of dinner plates so come hungry.

The restaurant, gas station with convenience store, and gun shop are all attached. The restaurant is on the right. It has its own entrance but is also attached to the C-store via a hallway. The gun shop is its own section in the C-store. There is also a bait and tackle section.I’ve eaten there a lot. I love it. It’s always a good meal at a good price. Nothing fancy, just small town cafe style fare. Great homemade pies. The Texas toast is buttered and grilled just how I like it. The honey mustard is the best I’ve had, and the wife usually orders the chicken strip basket just so she can dip in it. Breakfasts are just like grandma made. There is always a special of the day.The C-store has the usual snacks, drinks, hot food, and other common items.The gun shop has quite an impressive selection. Rifles, shotguns, handguns, ammo, scopes, firearm accessories, knives, and other hunting gear. If you are in the area and like guns it is a must see.Live bait and an assortment of tackle and fishing gear is also available.

They always let me get a glass off ice, free of charge, even though its supposed to cost 30sum cents (for the paper cup). One day the ice machine at the soda fountain, had already been shut down for the night (they were closing), but the cashier was kind enough to offer to go in back & fetch me a cup of ice from thier cooler.
