We heard great things about Michigander Kennels- and took our two dogs there without issue initially. Though the owner wasn’t overly friendly, we were reassured by hearing endorsements from people we trust. The last and final time we took our girls there, we quickly discovered upon returning home that one of our dogs had multiple bite marks. My husband called the owner and he took no accountability. Said there are brief periods of time the dogs are unsupervised when they are all playing together when he runs to go get this or that and admitted to having no cameras in the area they are all playing. He suggested that because we kenneled our dogs together- that our other dog is likely the culprit of giving our dog these bite marks. Mind you- our dogs have never had a history of aggression, hurting each other, or biting each other. If this was the case- why didn’t he separate them? Or reach out to us and say, “hey the dogs are stressed in the kennel together- getting agitated with each other are you ok if I separate them?” There was no effort on his part to keep our girls safe. Or even apologize that this happened in his care. Our dogs are like our babies - and we were absolutely devastated that something like this happened at what we thought was a reputable place. Needless to say, we will not be back. The owner didn’t even offer to cover the vet bill or give us our money back for the weekend stay. We took her to the vet and she was prescribed antibiotics due to the multiple wounds. Very disappointed in how this situation was handled and the lack of accountability or compassion that was showed. Would not recommend this business.

Friendly staff and clean facilities with heated floors, cots and outdoor playtime. This was the first time we boarded our two dogs and Michigander Kennels made for a great experience! My two dogs came home happy, healthy and well cared for. As a bonus, every Saturday they post photos of the dogs!

Michigander Retrievers Boarding is absolutely amazing! We left our pup there for 8 days and she loved it. She got to play with the other dogs while she was there! Halfway through our trip, we even got pictures of her playing with them. When I dropped her off, I got to see where the dogs stayed. The facility is great, and very clean! We highly recommend them if you need to board your dogs!

Noone else gets my dog. Ken runs an excellent kennel. My dog comes home happy and we'll exercised. If you hate having anyone else watch your dog, try this kennel. They will post pics of your dog having a good time with new friends while you do you.

We have always been very hesitant to board our dogs, as our dogs are our babies. I have always had my parents watch our dogs when we are out of town, but they live in Traverse City, and driving our dogs there and back was getting tedious. Therefore, I was on the look out for a good spot for our dog. Michigander Kennel’s had a great indoor and outdoor space and they treated our Milo with the kindness we would want when we are out of town. Michigander kennel had great recommendations from my coworkers and I am so glad we have a local space to trust with our baby.

I am so glad that we have found this kennel for our dog, Dash. It is clean and I like that they have cots for the dogs to sleep on. My dog seems very happy when he comes home thanks to the good care he gets from Ken.

Our pup is very friendly to people but is not comfortable around other animals. Michigander Boarding didn’t even bat an eye about it and reassured us that she would be well taken care of! They shared photos of her outside as well as worked with me as my pickup plans changed at the end of our trip! They were very accommodating and I would take her back in a heartbeat if we ever ran into a situation where we need to board her again!

Great facility and owners! Love the pictures of the doggies, to see them happily playing in the yards, while they are visiting. We even got a homemade puppers Valentine this year and a photo spot in the calendar! Thanks for all you do to make their stay wonderful, and put our minds at ease leaving them.

This was the first time we boarded our 3 y/o shepherd mix rescue, Riley. We had viewed pictures of other “campers” on their Facebook page which gave us comfort on how happy & well cared for the dogs are. From the time we made the reservation, dropping her off & viewing her on the page while we were traveling, and then ultimately picking her up; it was a 5-star A+ experience! We also opted for the bath the night before pickup! She even received a “report card” which set our minds at ease that she had eaten & behaved. The last time we went out of town our son took care of her and she didn’t eat & was depressed. I think she was too busy to realize we we were gone this time. Thanks Ken & Kristen for a fabulous first of many experiences for Riley. You are doing what you love and it definitely shows in your successful business!! You are our one & only choice!

Aside from the boarding this family also trains for various hunting skills with dogs, along as breeds. In the beginning we was impressed with them. We purchased a puppy from one of their litters and when then time came we took the pup back to be trained for duck hunting skills. They had her for approx 5 months. When we met for the return is when the disappointment set in. The gentleman told my husband the dog had a mind of her own and that he HATED her! What? This is a pup from your own litter.... after taking her home I was livid. We had vet appointment to have her examined, to find ticks, tick bites wounds from the training and calloused knees and ankles. Something the vet said he’s never seen on a puppy this young. (Eleven months). The vet was honest with us that it looked like there was no love given, obviously and felt sad for our family being so loving with our animals to have our pup returned to us in this condition. Since being home we have coddled her with love and attention with training that we are learning on you tube. Should have done this first. Needless to say, we have not heard back from this family even after we shared how disappointed we was. There are so many more, better, focused, not vacationing during training, trainers out there. Please do your research, for the love of your pup!

I cant rave enough about Michigander Retrievers and how amazing they are to our pups! At Valentines, we got Valentines made with their paw prints, and this weekend when we picked them up we got these adorable St. Patrick's day cards!! Ken and Kristen are seriously the best! If you live in this area with your own furry friends at home, Ian and I could not recommend this family and business more! Check them out!

Absolutely love Michigander Retrievers Boarding! 5 STARS all the way! The dogs get exercise, attention, and are housed in a beautiful clean facility. They even post pictures of the dogs on Facebook so you can see them while you are away. I won't take my dog anywhere else.

I feel really comfortable leaving our “nervous” dog here when traveling. Dogs have a lot of space inside and outside. And, I like that smaller dogs are kept separate from the larger dogs.

My dog was happy here. This is the first kennel where my dog hasn't been super anxious. She didn't bark at the owners and they were able to approach her and she was calm. This is a major improvement for my pup. I'm a very happy dog mom!!

Our dog, Gunther, receives excellent care when he stays with Michigander Retrievers. He is a Vizsla, and is very high energy. He gets plenty of opportunity to play outside and be with other dogs. I love how they post pictures on Facebook of the dogs playing together so you know they are doing well. Above and Beyond service.
