Purchased a swim shirt for my 4 year old daughter. Wore it one time in the water- it peeled and turned orange.Went in the next day (today) to exchange or get a refund. Waited 25 minutes for the owner to come in and make a decision with an associate upstairs.The owner then sent the associate back down to tell us tough luck. Wouldn’t even speak to us. Buy somewhere else.update: ownernship let us keep the shirt and refunded us. thank you so ha team for making this right. I’ve updated my rating.

Price and location are good. It smelled pretty bad there, though. The kid working said it was garbage.I asked for advice on if he recommends kayaking up or down river, the response was "whatever you want".We got help carrying our kayaks to the launch, which is nice. The kayaks themselves seemed broken, as the foot holds wouldn't lock. We weren't instructed initially on how to setup the seat. He basically said get in and go. Now, I've never kayaked before, so he may have assumed I had, but there was no initial coaching or instruction. I quickly fell out and into the water.He did help me out, and then showed me how to use the seat and advised me on how to do some stuff.I liked the kayaking, liked the price, customer service is lacking.Editing the review to 4 stars as the owner acknowledged the bad stuff. Overall we did have a good time.

*Note: we are describing the rental portion of this establishment, not the shop itself*While this review is about the rentals of paddleboards and kayaks, I would like to put in one nice note about the friendly staff at Soha Surf Shop who were patient with our touristy ways and wanted to help us have a great experience renting. Thank you!If you are familiar with South Beach, near the lighthouse, you should be told about the rental shop, because it was initially hard for us to find. The directions were: "Below the blue steps on South Beach" and we were confused at first. But, after some searching, we found the rental shop, which is literally just an organized group of kayaks and oars, not a shack or a structure, but a tent.The search was 100000% worth it! We ordered three single kayaks and within minutes we were directed towards Lake Michigan. We also ordered two hours and were given the stopwatch to let us know when it was time to come in. The gentleman renting was patient and wonderful.The two hours was worth it to explore the waters but USE SUNSCREEN. It's a great opportunity to explore Lake Michigan and get in a tan! So glad that we went on this adventure.

I rented from South Beach a few days ago, and it was awesome!! The staff was super friendly. We have never been to south haven before, and she was able to tell us not only about kayaking, and the lake, but also about everything else south haven has to offer! Made our trip special! Thanks, Jen!!

Braclet arrived damaged customer service very horrible would not even respond and tried to contact the owner whith many emails and no respond so I just got scammed out of my money and wouldn't even give me a refund. I am very upset whith soha I was even recommend to purchase from you guys but I regret It. They never even emailed me back after I sent them the messages and its supposed to be great customer service do not believe it

Rentals were a good price. Wished the attendant would ask more questions on what we were looking for. Overall great experience. One thing beyond their control is that when the beach is as crowded as it was, it's tricky to land the kayak on shore without bumping into people.

Most items in store are not recognized surf brands, but off-brand, low-quality, high-priced stuff. Was hoping for a surf vibe, like the name implies, but most stuff is better suited for ladies of a certain age and modesty. If they promoted the lifestyle they pretend to be, I think it'd be a much better experience. Not horrible, but Glik's is better.

The clothing in the shop is not your typical touristy $5 t-shirt. You'll find high quality, brand name attire, that will just so happen to leave you looking great at the beach, cookout or whatever it is you're doing. Oh, and need a new pair of Oakley's, a paddle board or kayak? It's the place to go in South Haven.They also have board & kayak rentals on the lake & on the river! Yay!Bonus: (because I like to support local businesses)The shop is owned & operated by a family that are lifelong residents of the community. The owners & staff are top notch, friendly & helpful. This is why I make a point to go back again and again!

I liked what I saw at soha rentals! The rental was only 40 for a half day on a tandem kayak!! I liked that the location was right on the river and that even though they r off the river by 25 ft, the employees help u with ur rental over to the dock and explained how the dock works. The river was peaceful and we had plenty of time to wonder around and see pure Michigan for a bit:) After doing our thing we returned back to the dock where the gentleman helped us and our equip back to the stand. I would definitely recommend soha rentals to anyone looking for a good water experience in south haven, MI

Basically a self serve operation-not what we were expecting. A tandem kayak $70.00 for 1/2 day or you could rent a single kayak for $40 for 1/2 day which is what we chose. No complaints on the prices. The problem was the young kid, Adam Sims, who acted like he was forced to work here was NO help at all. ZERO customer service. He took our money and we were basically on our own. No advice or even which way we should go off the dock , (the big Lake was to the left and the Black River to the right) we had to ask. If you have any physical disabilities it might be hard for you to get yourself off the rolling dock, especially since you're pointed to the dock and left on your own. Its a good idea to bring some bottled water because there's no water available at the rental trailer. The river scene was actually pretty boring and lots of goose poop in the river. Kind of disgusting. We made the most of it and enjoyed nature, but would not choose Soha again. We like nice people who enjoy life and like to smile not lazy, long haired punk kids who hate life and responsibilities. Nothing against long haired hippies, my daughter who went kayaking with me, fits this description as well. But she shows respect to people and is a responsible adult. And No we are not from this area and don't even know who your competitors are. I sure wish I did though before I rented from Soha! Maybe we would've received some courtesy from them. I like how Adam Sims, the pitiful employee or as he calls himself "gentleman" gave himself a 5 star review, Chris Campbell, the owner, gives his own business a 5 star rating and his wife, Heather Vanderslik, gave another 5 star review. Really? I thought this was supposed to be customer ratings. Btw- the city council business minutes are online and gives the business owner name, Tie the Knot website gives Chris and Heather's wedding announcement info and Facebook tells the rest. Easy research methods.

Everything you could possibly want in quality beach wear can be found at SoHa Surf Shop! They sell great brands like Quicksilver, Oakley, O'Neill and Hurley. I will only be buying my boardshorts and swimwear from SoHa Surf from now on!

Rented 3 paddle boards today for the group I'm with. The website doesn't tell you that you have to haul the board and paddle 1/4 mile up the beach to enter the water. These boards weigh about 30 pounds. This definitely needs to be addressed on the website. This is not an easy walk when maneuvering around beach goers and a narrow path. Had I known this we would have used another equipment rental place. One star is being very generous.

This is a great little surf and skate shop. Surf/paddel boards and surf/skate attire. They also have sunglasses, everything is name brand. They even sell Quicksilver tshirts with the surf shop's name on it.

I come to south haven from kalamazoo all the time and the rentals here are one of my favorite things to do in town. I've paddleboarded and kayaked on the river at least four times this summer through SoHa and each time it was a fun, positive experience. Everywhere else I've looked at renting from has been ridiculously expensive (a deposit of $300 to rent a paddleboard or kayak? No thanks) AND make you transport the kayak/board yourself (I drive a Toyota Corolla so that's not doable for me). I highly enjoy renting through this company and I love how easy they make it for their customers.

If there was a way to give a negative # review I would. Where to begin....first off the long haired hippey kid had the personality of a rock! Once we paid, he put our kayaks on the dock, he said it's on rollers, just push yourself off. Um, last I remember as a paying customer, what about a little help to make sure you get in ok? What if someone had never kayaked before? Fortunately we knew what to do. Secondly,upon returning, the guy never looked up to see if anyone was returning as you would expect, never told us what to do once we got back, as there's no specific marked spot. I started to drag my kayak out of the water, when he finally saw me, he said, don't drag that on concrete, it'll put a hole in it and you'll have to pay for it! So, I put it down and started to walk away. I said, didn't you do that when you put it on the dock? He said no, I carried it. But told me, "I need help carrying this" seriously?? Anyway, I would not recommend!!! BTW, we watched him drag other kayaks. *The forms that you fill out at the trailer (with your personal information) are left out in the open for anyone to steal.In response to: "The Owner" who replied, has the same mentality as Adam Sims and lacks business etiquette. Adam Sims posts impersonated reviews. The owner of this company is Chris Campbell and Heather Vanderslik (who are married) also post reviews to boost their ratings. This violates Google standards and is a conflict of interest.Judge for yourself people!!

The view of the water is stunning. I could sit and watch it all day. The shades of blue are amazing. Anytime you can get out on this water, get to it. very shallow and easy to navigate unless it’s a super high wave day.

Rented a stand up board, convenient, great views, guy was helpful, equipment decent, pretty quick process, boards weigh less than 20 pounds so easy to carry into water, about 50 feet
