I really enjoyed the area. Not only are there trail rides, but also the ice cream is amazing. There are also quite a few fun kids attractions, like the park and pool! We really had a fun time there.

July 2021 - my family had a blast here in the back 40 ranch. The pool area back here has a small kid area. Another pool to play volleyball and basketball. Behind that is this water ride where you sit on an inner tube. Takes maybe 9 seconds to fly down it, through a barn and out you go. My 3 kids did it maybe 20 times in a row. Hardly a wait and that was their favorite part of our week vacation. By the cabins there is a spot to do a shared fire. We got to know 2 other families, and that was awesome. If we had our own, we would have never talked to anyone. The only knock I had was in the cabin, the stairs need a light or something. Its pitch black and if you have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, good luck not falling. We left one light on all night. However, my children loved sleeping in that loft. When you check in at the main area with the water park. You leave their and go to the main road. Turn left and maybe 1/2 mile on the left is the back 40. You will see a big sign. Nice people, and we are thinking of doing it again next year. Next year I am bringing my basketball, S'mores kit, and some outdoor games the kids can play.

The Back Forty Village was shut down when we camped. My daughter enjoyed riding the horses and the crew there were amazing in hospitality.Bathrooms need attention as they were dirty and out dated. The indoor mini golf at Double JJ ranks toward the top of my list for fun and excitement. Only issue there is dress light as you feel the heat and humidity from the Waterpark.Really think if marketing was done right, people whom stay the night on the resort would receive discounts for the water park. Also, web page needs to be updated informing guests of what is open vs closed. We don't mind paying for a resort with resort prices if the resort is open!

Beware of campsites being listed as having water and electric. While we did have electric the nearest water was across the road and over 200 ft away and shared with two other campsites that were already hooked up to it . Staff was not helpful and acted like it was a typical setup which it's not. We couldn't change sites and they wouldn't refund us the difference in price to a rustic site which is basically what we ended up with.

Very disappointed here. I think back in the day it was a nice place to come to. The Western front where it looks like shops used to be are closed windows very dirty. Nothing pretty some tiny flower pots. Very small play area. Dirty with papers and pop and water bottle's on the ground and underneath the play things. Pool with splash pad was old and in need of paint. Short staff so no big water slide wasn't open. Camping area small but clean. Lots of fly's around. We didn't eat outside on the picnic table. Water park was ok. Very dated! For some reason it had sand in the shallow area. All in all not a great place, but made the best of it. PS they had a Rodeo there it was awesome!

It was a nice trail ride. The fall colors were pretty and we even saw some deer. The view of the water and dock as the sun was setting was gorgeous. It was a bit cold after the sun set and I was wishing I had gloves. Didnt care for being on the road much as my horse LOVED to stop and eat the grass slowing the riders behind me, but all in all...great family fall activity for us.

My experience was pretty good. Although there are a few things that need to be changed to accommodate people of larger size. First things first the toilet was horrible the toilet paper holder is directly above the toilet and it's almost impossible for someone that's larger to be able to use it it's turned into a nightmare for me. The water has a horrible smell to it. The cable TV was out so my boys were not very happy about that. The cabin other than that was really nice. Although I think the price was a little bit high for one night stay.

We were staying as part of a wedding party for the bride, the cabins were very nicely equipped, but for the prices and no wifi ? That one I didn't think went too well. The front desk was very rude the day we were checking in, not acomodating or anything close at all! The information given over the phone and in person were completely different and all they could offer was a sorry but that's how it is 🤦 They need to learn more people skills!

Not a very nice campground. Needs some attention. There booking system is very difficult to understand and the booking lady is very condescending. Another party that was with us rented a cabin and they had fleas in the bed and had to be moved. Very overpriced. Had a very nice dinner at their restaurant. Would not recommend this campground.

We stayed at the Back Forty RV Park, initial impressions are just OK. I guess we expected more from the Double JJ brand. The old west town is crazy neat. The horses being nearby is awesome. The water park nearby looks inviting... But we are here the weekend before Memorial Day and much of this isn't open. We kind of expected this... BUT we didn't expect there to be very little maintenance of the RV park itself. Our lot (and others) seemed to have had no mowing preformed and there are plenty of limbs falling from trees that would be easily maintained but are not.I will say, the bath house/toilets seem to be maintained nicely. The check-in process is a little goofy (especially with a 40ft trailer) as you have to check in at the main office 2 miles away and it's not REALLY designed for large trailers, but there is a large loop that you shouldn't have too much trouble with. This is early in our stay though - maybe I'll reassess this before we leave...Edit: as many RV parks WiFi is horrible, I thought I should mention that they do have a fairly consistent 4mpbs down and ~2mpbs up... I don't know where all it covers but ours was a few bars in our camper, not bad for an RV park.

The property has so much potential but current management isn't keeping up the maintenance of the buildings. Couches and tvs in rental cabins are from the 90s and that might be the last time some of the buildings got stained or painted. For the price of the cabins, I'd expect better cleaning, food and trash not stuck in the couch, carpet vacuuming, etc. The front desk staff was accommodating so bonus star. Please fix arcade room electrical plug hanging out before a kid gets hurt.

Jesse in housekeeping was more than hospitable, let our family view all the cabins we were interested in and answered all of our questions with kindness. Thanks for being great! See you next summer.

We stayed 2 nights in one of the cabins on the Back 40. The cabins were very nice. Bright wood, loft upstairs with 2 twin beds, A/C, ceiling fan, older tv, microwave, minifridge, and a couch that had a pullout, as well as a table and chairs for eating meals. Master bedroom had a jetted tub, dresser, and a king sized bed.First day/night was good. Ate dinner and had some drinks at the bar grille they have in their old west town in the Back 40. Food was good. Made a bonfire, (they will deliver wood for you if you pay for it at the general store, $5 if I am remembering correctly. Bathroom is respectable. Toilet is way to close to the wall and door, though. Good water pressure. Only complaint for the first night would be the old spring king sized mattress. It was very warm out and my fiance and I both woke up with sore backs and necks.2nd night was the reason I'm only giving Double JJ 3 stars. Staff was very rude to use on the phone when we asked if they had a dress code for the steakhouse (near the golf course). Rude tone saying they were closed. We called shortly after 5pm. So we called the pizza place located in the building that has the indoor water park and they also said they were closed. After finding out that all 3 of the restaurants closed at 5pm that day (website said 8pm and bar stayed open until 11pm) we had to travel all the way out to stoney lake to find an open restaurant. (Yes I know we are at a camping resort, but we like to try local eateries). Later that night, there was a very rude group of people who are camping in the Back Forty who decided it was a good idea to shoot off fireworks all through the night. They also allowed their children to run around yelling through the woods at 12:30a.m. I first attempted to contact management of the Double JJ Ranch. They stated that the person setting off the fireworks was a private owner Within the facility and that there was nothing they could do about it and they had already received several complaints. They said my best bet would be to contact local Authority. When attempted contact local Authority the dispatcher stated that it was in the rule area of the county and that there was nothing that they could do about it they have do not follow the state of Michigan's guidelines for when fireworks can be shot off there for fireworks can be shot off at any time not just on day before, day of and after holidays that are recognized by the state.I wish I could say I would stay here again because it is a really cool place with lots of activities for the entire family (golf, horseback riding, hay rides, water parks, arcades etc.) But having absolutely no authority over people that stay/live on a portion of your property when you have paying guests is ridiculous.

We had some issues with payment as we called ahead and were told the cost was half of what they ended up charging us in the end, but we were already there so we bit the bullet. Other than that the cabin we stayed in was a cute, clean place.
