Loved it!Was not sure, as we haven't been there before, and no one we know has visited either. So we went out on a limb and we were not disappointed.First, let me say that the owners are doing an amazing job. So many different animals, all looking healthy and happy. Can't be easy to care for all of them.Place well kept. Picnic area. Carries for little kids that you can borrow for free. Lots of benches throughout to rest. You can purchase buckets of carrots to feed the animals. $5 and they last a while. Kids really enjoyed feeding emus, monkeys, llamas, camels, etc. Adults enjoyed it too!! Fun for everyone. One of the owners was by the tiger area and was telling guests about the tiger, how they got her, what she likes and so on. You could tell he loved her and really cared. We later saw him again by the sloth volier; he was feeding them and told us a lot about sloths. Answered all the questions kids were asking. He was very patient with everyone. We had a great time. Definitely worth an hour drive and very reasonable entry fee.

The zoo was a great place to visit and see animals. However, I'd like for everyone to keep in mind that this zoo is small. It is nothing like the zoo in Detroit, Michigan. I feel that it is perfect for a young child's first experience visiting a zoo and for parents or other adults not wanting an all-day outing. There are a sufficient number of animals to see, and my favorites are the goats, birds, and sloth. As you come into the zoo, there are T shirts and other things like carrots 🥕 to feed animals that can be purchased in the main building. Where a separate building has ice cream and goodies. Paths are easy to navigate, and the bigger animals are toward the back. Sadly, we were unable to get a good view of the cats as they were understandably staying out of the sun.

I have lived in Michigan my entire 26-year life (at this point) and NEVER knew Northern Michigan had a family owned zoo, let alone one this extensive, family-friendly, and awesome.Where do I begin? Perhaps with the parking: very close to the road, unassuming but by no-means difficult to find, with plenty of space.Next, the line was short but the place had a healthy amount of visitors. The owners and staff we very kind. The cost per adult is $15, which in my opinion, for what we realized we got to see, was a smokin’ deal. And for another $5 we got a small sand bucket full of cut carrots to feed the various animals. The animals they had, to name a few: Pot Belly pigs, muntjac deer (look them up; I’d never heard of them), fallow deer, red deer, bengal and Siberia tigers, a mature full grown African lion, a black bear, a Camel, spider monkeys, Guinea pigs, tortoises, various goats, ponies, kangaroos, prairie dogs, Coatimundis (a South American raccoon mixed with an anteater critter), a Bearded Dragon, numerous South American birds, donkeys, Capybara, Kookaburra (kingfisher bird), Lemurs. And the list goes on. In short, bring some sunscreen, your lunch (they have a nice, covered eating area inside the gates), and excitement, and this place will not disappoint! Perfect for a young married couple like my wife and I. But also great any sized family with or without kids, looking for a large zoo amount of animals, for crazy cheap prices, without all the big city hustle and bustle.

We really enjoyed our visit. I’ve been to other small zoos that make me feel bad, but not this one. These folks care about their animals. I’d recommend checking Facebook before you go…they put animals first, and if it’s too hot, too cold, or bad weather, they’ll make the call to close. That being said, we went on a perfect day and had a great time.

What a great place to bring the kids. It is a smaller zoo with many farm animals. We spent a little over an hour feeding and petting the animals. The kangaroo was awesome. The armadillo so cute. The animals love being fed by the people. Tons of farm yard rescues. I took a star off the rating for the unhappy big cat pacing his cage. The rest of the animals seemed very happy. Tons of animal personalities to enjoy here... Lol

This zoo was amazing! I loved the various types of animals they had there, and how they had the environment specific to what each animal is naturally used to. This would be the perfect zoo for someone with small children or who doesn’t want to spend the entire day at the zoo, but still wants the zoo experience. They have carrots available to feed the animals in plastic bags ($3) or buckets ($5). The animals love it, so I would recommend getting the bucket! Overall, this zoo was probably my favorite.

A beautiful little zoo perfect for small town Roscommon my girls loved it highly recommended for a nice slow day with the kids. Can also get buckets of carrots to feed the animals. The horses are so cute they know just how to get what they want by kicking their feet gently on the gate for attention.

Went with wife, and her parents for wife's birthday. Brought our 3 year old son. Can't say enough good things about this place. First almost all animals you get to feed and pet. Minus the dangerous ones🤷♂️animals were active, moving around. My son loved the camels and seeing the tiger moving about. We will definitely return next time we're up that way

Such an awesome little zoo! Its expanding all the time with animals like armadillos, exotic birds and tigers! The peacocks are my favorite but the monkeys run a close second. It's a great place to enjoy a day with your family or friends. Don't forget to dress accordingly for the animals are outside. The zoo is not open in the rain.

We have gone to this zoo twice while up for the summer and the kids always have such a fun time feeding the animals. The ladies are always so pleasant with the guests and the kids live that you get a popsicle at the end of our visit !

Very nice zoo and we really enjoyed it! Not expensive. You can buy carrots when you buy your tickets to feed the different animals up close

I took my 2 year old daughter here and she loved it. It's more of a hands on zoo that allows you to feed some of the animals and get up close to them. It is very well kept and the staff is friendly & knowledgeable.

Nice small zoo with a variety of animals to see and most of them could be fed. Unlike the Detroit Zoo, it was easy to view all animals and get pretty close to them.

Outstanding. Do NOT miss visiting this hidden gem. It's a small family owned and operated zoo. The family is extremely friendly, as well as knowledgeable. They really care for the animals they have here. I wish I had more pictures on my device. The prices are extremely reasonable. I only wish they had a food vending booth on site, but it's not a big deal. They have talking birds, tigers, a bear, camel, emus, miniature cows, and ponies, and goats, porcupines, turtles, and much more. I was there for 4 hours, and just couldn't get enough. I completely recommend this place to any animal lover, or anyone looking for a must see while in the northern part of Michigan around Mio. I will return every time I am up there! I wish I could upload the videos I have. I've never seen such active big cats!

We took our kids ages 5-8, such a fun experience. It was surprisingly bigger than I expected. They had a wide variety of animals! The staff was friendly and even handed out popsicles to the kids as we left. Definitely going back next year.

Very nice zoo, clean, animals look healthy. Animals were active. Nice to be able to see the white tiger and bengal tiger up walking around, many zoos they just lay around and you don't get to see how big they really are.

this place was fun, but what I hated was how the tigers were kept. there was a white tiger with crossed eyes, those kinds of tigers need special attention and care plus the enclosure was less than nessicary. the other tiger was next to it and was in a cage even smaller that the first. In my opinion I think that they should have a larger enclosure and better care takers. In addition to the tigers cage being small, they had "artic foxes" who's cages were in no condition to hold said animals. the cage had no water or food bowl and keeping them cool was just a round box fan.

I found this little zoo doing a Google search for something to do with my kids on vacation and this place popped up. The reviews seemed good and we decided to check it out. The reviews are RIGHT! Our boys are 2&4 and both had an amazing time, as did we! We loved feeding the animals the sliced carrots and really getting to see the animals up close. My husband uses a cane and he was able to navigate without any issues and they had plenty of benches in shaded areas for anyone who might need a little break. We enjoyed learning about the amount of food the tigers eat and the zoos supporters. They have a really nice place there and I'm very happy we decided to check it out! We will certainly visit again the next time we are visiting our family in Tawas, which is not too far away...
