It's the place you want to love. Sadly it's shy of lovable. The staff is fairly helpful, not overly helpful. The selection is pretty good, not great. I've witnessed several discussions about where things are and where they were moved by the staff. Bluntly I don't need to hear the bickering between the staff members.

If you are tired of trudging through a Big Box store searching for a couple items, then try Gilroy's. They have employees that are actually happy to help you and take you right to the items, and they always have what I need!!!

Excellent place, very clean store. I definitely recommend coming to this place. This was my first time and I was VERY impressed!

Gill-Roys has been a main stay to the Houghton Lake community for decades having once been a Do It Center. Thus they have an extremely large inventory of often hard to find hardware items. With a helpful staff who are mostly local, their customer service is second to none. You are typically greeted at the door and offered assistance with a smile. And unlike the large chain stores, this assistance tends to be knowledgeable and accurate. If you want hassle free one stop service for hardware needs, you should visit Gill Roy's first.

My first experience at Gill-Roy's was excellent! I worked with Kevin and Frank, but a few others helped also...After going here, you won't need Ace, Lowe's or Home Depot! These guys really know their business! I am the longest active Board Member of the Michigan BBB and I would personally rate this store and the service I received a sold A+!!

I just love this store if they don't have what you need then you are not going to find it. I have been going to this store for well over 35 year's it was called ford's do it yourself back when I was a kid but they changed the name now but nothing has changed in this store. I just like going to them to help out the little store then the big box stores that have basically made all the little mom and pops stores in this country so even though you may have to pay a little bit more for the stuff in this store it is still worth the money to be able to keep this store open and hopefully they will still be around for another 50 some year's. They are a stihl dealer and have everything that you need for your stihl chainsaw and anything else that is made by stihl. Plus they fix windows and window screens or sliding door screens they can fix everything on the sliding door screen and are really fast at it. I definitely want this store to everyone.

I try to go to Gilly's before the depot because I see them as the lesser of the 2 evils. They don't make it easy. The employees there always seem like you're bothering them. If you don't like people, don't be in sales. I don't like navigating HD it's always way longer than it should be. I'm not going to the third hardware on account of way higher prices and it's on the other side of town. I'm a man without a hardware store😭

I had to wait 3 weeks to have a window repaired, the reason I was told is that the managers had customers to wait on , on the floor. duhhh I thought I was a customer too, apparently not and as far as I'm concerned I'm not a customer anymore.!!!
