Service is good. The four stars is only because the prices are much higher than other grocery stores. I want to support local stores, but the prices are hard to justify. Produce is not always fresh and that hurts the willingness to pay more. If products and produce were more fresh, it may help a bit. Like I said, I would love to shop here more to support the locals.

We came here to get donuts and they were so good! Very soft, just the right amount of frosting/icing. We walked around and they are connected to a hardware store so if you arent paying attention you could easily walk into the hardware store. They also have a little cesears and biggby coffee inside the store.

1. To mirror countless other reviews, the products here are significantly overpriced and quality is low.2. It’s very difficult to find healthy options.3. Toms is the only grocery store in Portland. I hear it’s because the owner of Toms sits on the board that gets to decide what business’ are allowed into the city. I don’t know if it’s true. However, to mirror other reviews, it does feel like because Tom’s has a monopoly, they take advantage and raise prices very high.4. The sales are sad. Sometimes a sales sticker and tag is on an item, and when you look at the discount/prices, it’s literately the same price as before the “sale”.5. I’ve visited the tool center side quite a few times, and have gotten similar vibes as other people. I don’t know if it’s over zealous customer service, or if they truly suspect people of stealing. No one has said anything to me directly, so hard to say.6. I did purchase broth here before, and when I got home it was already opened. I did bring it back and got it exchanged no problem.

Everything here is so unimaginably overpriced. On average your spending at least $1 and some change on items compared to a regular grocery store like Meijer. Not even in comparison to a discount store like Walmart. Save your money and shop elsewhere, this store will also sell discounted expired items.

Clean & very tidy--the shelves always look amazing!! Staff is friendly & helpful. Being a privately owned store, some of the prices are definitely higher than going to a chain store, but they do have some things that are comparable & some really well priced items as well!

3 time this has happened with same employee. Went to self check out and was with my girlfriend and she purchased alcohol and the employee came over to ask for her ID then asks for mine i go why im not purchasing it she goes you look young and she could be giving it to you. Then I ask her so if i have my kids with me or my girlfriend has her kids with her they will deny us to buy cause they look young or we might be giving it to them and she walked away without answering. Come on!! This employee is the only one that does this. Have not had no issues with this with any other employee buying alcohol. Called the manager and they seemed to not care about the issue or get the point of it. Needless to say i wont be going back here again.

People say, "Why don't you go to Meijer where prices are cheaper." Because I like the convenience. It's easy in and easy out. If there is something I need that isn't there or I find a price too high, next time I'm in Grand Ledge, I'll get it then.

Stop in to get a few things. They are more expensive than other grocery stores. They kind of got you, if you don't go there you have to travel further.

Toms is a small town grocery store, and the only one in Portland MI, large selection of foods including a full hardware store prices are a little bit more than a big box store however next closest is around 15miles away.

I went here to return cans, it didn’t spit my return ticket out so i pressed the assist button and it took someone 10 minutes to get over to us. This girl named alex walked by us and when she came back by I stopped her and tried to get her help and she told me nobody was back there working in the machines. I then asked if she could get someone to come over here and help us and she told me “i have a job that i have to get back to” so i asked for a manager and she said her boss was at home. I then asked for any manager in the store and she rudely told me that she needs to go back to her station. Very dissatisfied with my experience here. The manager was helpful once he came around!

Wow!!!...I just moved to Portland and this was my first visit to Tom's market. What a well stocked, clean store. It is much more then just a market. I did not get a chance to walk through the entire store but that will definitely be happening soon(will provide a photo update.) I was shocked at just how big it was inside. I heard prices were high but I personally do not mind paying a little more for such a large and well stocked selection in such a clean and comfortable environment. Great job to all the staff that makes it just that.

Overall a good shopping experience as it’s the only grocery store in Portland. There is a hardware store attached, a Bigbee and a Little Caesar’s too - very convenient.The prices are high - most employees are helpful and cheerful.

It's a good store if you can afford it. I go here when I need a few things, but I cannot afford to do all my grocery shopping here. I do like their Our Family spring water the best for bottled water. Also if I want good meat I will make a run to Tom's before many other places. I try to buy on sale and have had no complaints for the meat department.

ALWAYS TOO PRICEY ON EVERYTHING!! We sometimes put off shopping if at all possible and shop at Meijer or Walmart. There's a SIGNIFICANT difference in our grocery bill if we wait to shop at one of the big box stores. I understand paying for convenience but Tom's would definitely get more traffic if their prices were more reasonable. People always say "buy local", but there's a limit to that.

Store is clean and friendly. Prices are high though, probably because it's the only place in town to get most grocery items and they know it. Its not just inflation because we can get all of the same items at chain stores for much cheaper but sometimes we just can't drive 20-25 minutes to and from another store so we're stuck paying sometimes double for that one thing we ran out of or forgot. Especially produce which since we've lived here, 9 years, has been poor quality and over priced.It would be nice if they could go back to ala carte options for the fried chicken because when it's none or 8/10 pieces I'm sure I'm not only one less likely to get it.I can say I really appreciate how the staff always catches that I forgot to grab my cash back at the self check out!

We really like to shop here. Employees are very helpful and kind. We travel from Lowell. Go to one of the local restaurants and then to the store. Able to get everything we need for our family. Thank you for doing a great job.

Nice store(s). Grocery in one part, DIY center in the other half, Biggby and Little Ceasars are also in the same building. Pricey for a Grocery store but for convenience I guess that's what you get. Great staff all over the store(s)

Edit to add: went to grab a few things for dinner and steak was on our minds so I walk up to the meat department and as I get there I see an employee freshly stocking the steaks! Score! Or I thought 😐 I ask the gentleman If they have any filet mignon and he directs me to a large selection of 2 different packages to choose from 🚩The first package $38 or so, had multiple dark brown spots. 🚩 Pass. So I opt for the other package $42. They werent the greatest looking steaks I've bought but they didn't look THAT bad. well, I was absolutely 10000% wrong. Not only was there the Fattiest filet mignon I've ever seen, there was 2 of the fattiest filet I've even seen 🚩🚩 no doubt most disappointing purchase of 2023. Never wasting my money on steaks here AGAIN. I should have learned from the first time I bought them here, which that experience wasn't any better than this one.Bad1. Everything is over priced2. You have to walk through the store all the way to the back just to return bottles3. Can't cash in bottle slips at self check out4. Haven't had a single decent encounter with anyone working in the grocery section, hardware folks are nice though5. Entire store layout is totally confusing. Who puts toiletries/household items dead center between all the food????? Store should go from hardware to pet/toiletries/household essentials to food. Why separate the food isles?! Really bothers meGood1. Has knock off captain crunch w/marshmallows. Only store I've been to that has it. Only reason I even come to this store .

I have been craving a mexican style dip that my mom would get when I was little from Tom's. Went to Tom's after 15+ years, and they still make it. Thanks Tom's!

Great grocery store with a wide selection of items. Friendly staff, reasonable prices.Stopped in for Bigby and drinks for the road, so didn't get a great look at the variety, but seemed to have everything someone would be looking for.
