Prices are pretty high but they also offer a self-serve dog wash with no time limit for $15. We were able to wash our dog with professional equipment for a decent price.They also have store cat and a variety of small animals for sale and cats for adoption!

Loved it. Very organized and I met one of the managers dogs. She's adorable. Prices are good, reasonable. Store very clean. And I got my Jack Russell Terriers Santa frosted dog treats and 2 new collars and a rope.

I came in a couple of nights ago to get some cat supplies. Took a look at some of the animals there and was appalled at how they are kept. Cages FULL of feces. These poor ferrets in this tiny cage half covered in their feces. DO BETTER! Shame on you

The conditions of the reptiles is unprofessional. There is a beta fish dead in its bowl that’s been dead for at least a few days. The water conditions of at least two other betas are completely dirty and low on water. The temps and humidity on one of the corn snakes (I believe Spaghetti was it’s name) was so unkept the snake is up high on the branch just to get some heat and doesn’t even have a hide. The bearded dragon’s humidity in its hot corner (which isalmost 7° F over) was at 10% (should be 20%- 40%) and again the previously mentioned corn snake didn’t even have a temp/humidity gauge. These conditions are UNACCEPTABLE and dangerous for the quality of life for these animals. I would like to see some changes and hopefully I can come back to this location. Until then I don’t think I will recommend this location to anyone who actually cares about their animals.

Ok, I love this place! Washing Rojo at home kills my back after having surgery, but not here! I bought him a toy and a #mitten cookie cause he did such a good job!

Multiple male guinea pigs kept together in small cages - one had dry crusted blood from an obvious attack. It was scared in the corner while the other two were fighting for dominance with mating sounds. DON’T PLACE MALE GUINEA PIGS TOGETHER. The other cages were too small for the rabbits and other guinea pigs - incredibly sad. Stop selling these animals if you can’t even care for them properly before selling them! Shame on you Chow Hound.

I've been to many pet stores all over Michigan and I can definitely say that Chow Hound Pet Supplies of Portage Michigan is the best. There main manager has helped me a ton with my animals, making sure I'm getting the right food and enclosures as well as toys for my animals to play with. The staff are great as well they are always so helpful, only downside for me personally is I like fish as much as all my other animals and they dont carry any fish here. They do have a limited supply of nice fish stuff but overall this place deserves a 10/10.

We had a wonderful experience with the nail trim team. We called ahead to ask for accommodations for our reactive dog. Our dog was attacked at a dog park and has been very nervous since. The team was extremely accommodating and went above and beyond! We will definitely be back!

On 4-11-23 I walked in at 4:31 pm. I brought a tub of Cat Litter to the front and asked for a large cricket also (I have a tatarantula). I was told, not for the first time, there were no crickets by the lady at the register. I went to return the litter and passed the cricket enclosure. There were plenty of live crickets, more than one.No idea what the motive was here but I never have a problem at MVPets, so I'll go there.

This is a great place to find pet supplies locally. We threw our 2yr old rescued pup a birthday party 🎉 and found the best doggy gifts and treats there! Checkout the bakery too! Those treats were so adorable. He definitely had a great birthday party!

I was looking for a new corn snake- but every place I went was either high priced or out! I walked in lost for hope... when I found my baby caramel terrssa corn snake- Harley @ this location! All the employees were extremely friendly and helpful! Not mention the store was clean and overall a wholesome vibe to walk into. Looks I found my forever favorite pet store! I live about 30 minutes away... but the drive is definitely worth it!

I've bought 4 guinea pigs in the last two months and they've all died, one by one, after just a few weeks. Finally learned my lesson and won't be back. The last one only made it two weeks. All had the same symptoms of drooling, crusted eyes, rancid smell coming from their mouth. Whoever they're using as a breeder, there is some kind of disease being spread. And yes I am an experienced guinea pig owner, they had proper diets, and a c&c cage for ample space. I had two at a time so they weren't alone because they are social creatures.

Awesome pet store. Faces are always friendly, always stocked, always clean, they go above and beyond every time, and the music is always on point. Plus, they seem to actually care about their animals, someone is always tending to them whenever I am in.It's my go to store for all my chinchilla supplies, and I recommend them to everyone.

Employees are always friendly and those dog washes are affordable and amazingly useful! They provide everything you need, albeit my dog still freaks out and cries his way through it all. Thankfully, they're also stocked with a ton of treats and stinky dried animal products that my pup adores!

Love the dog wash rooms. Make it easy and fast to clean our dog. Also like that they're individual rooms as our dog doesn't do well around other dogs. Only problem was the staff. Stood at the register waiting to pay while the two employees had an entire conversation about how they wanted to set up a display. They made eye contact with us multiple times as we waited and the entire checkout experience was awkward. Even still, nice and clean store. Will still go back for dog washes.

5 starts for the self serve dog wash!! it is not timed, its always clean, and they have an awesome selection of (unlimited) supplies. Staff is usually friendly (only have had one that was not and I visit here about once a month) and everything is user friendly. Music is great and room temp is always comfortable. Thanks for offering this!

Came in here this week and was disgusted. Beta fish are in small containers with fin rot. The rabbits were kept in a very small cage. Not to mention the cages were very dirty!! The smell was so bad, they sell small animals but do not carry barely anything for them

A great store for all sorts of dog and cat needs as well as some harder to find supplies for small pets. I've had problems with the male staff being rude and condescending, but the others have all been fantastic to shop with. The live animals they carry are healthy and active in clean enclosures, a major plus.
