I worked at R&T for 12 years. I frequented as a customer before and after my years working at this establishment. The atmosphere something I seek everywhere I go. Nothing like a slow morning at Toast, but don't expect the slow relaxed life on a summer morning - that's a locals only special during the "off season". Their drink options are vast and fantastic, beans roasted on site, fresh baked bread and homemade soups daily. Anytime I want to show someone a special piece of Petoskey, I being them here. I'm also a fixture on the walls - I was painted by William Hoesner around 2008, as part of a scholarship fund project.Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options available for bread and sometimes baked goodsKid-friendliness: Depends on the kid, but my 2&4 year old love hanging out here with me. The decor and colorful walls help make it captivating for them to just observe and enjoy the atmosphere. They like to use the little hand Bissell to clean and they love to pick their own juice out of the case. There are a few kids options for food and plenty of drink options including smoothies, hot chocolates and soda specials.

My daughter and I stopped at Roast & Toast on our fall color tour mini vacation. This was a hip fun place for lunch! So many choices for food and drink that were on the menu's and the walls. My daughter quickly picked out a Avocado BLT & Chai tea (something?!?!), I was still trying to decide on my meal and thought the Chicken Salad stuffed avocado sounded interesting in the "sandwiches" selection. When my daughter order they gave her a bread choice, but when I ordered no choice was offered. Thinking it was kinda strange at the moment but figured it really wouldn't bother me with any type of bread. The order came up and I had a avocado split in half with the chicken salad in it. It blew my mind because of what I had pictured in my head!! Anyhow, I took the peel off and cut up the avocado for a delicious salad. And I'm not a huge salad person.A nice stop in Petoskey and will go again once were back there!Great job Roast & Toast!!

I visit Petoskey often and have always wanted to visit this place since I love the outside decor. The inside is just as interesting and I really enjoyed looking all around. However, I was confused by the ordering process initially. Maybe some signs around (on the tables maybe?) or a large sign at the entrance that gets your attention (maybe there was one and my friends and I missed it) and explains the whole process will be nice. When we went inside, we couldn't even tell if we needed to seat ourselves or not. Ordering was easy enough but staring at the menu on the wall to figure out wasn't the most convenient way of choosing what I wanted since I need to be careful with ingredients. These are all minor issues though. If the food had been good enough for the price, these wouldn't have mattered. I was very disappointed with my avocado toast. There was hardly any avocado on the bread to make it an avocado toast (see pics). It tasted good enough and the price was pretty decent, but I expect a good amount of stuff besides bread on a toast. If I knew it was going to be that little amount of food, I would've ordered a full order of pancakes as an add on. That said, I also got a single order pancake which tasted good but was a bit smaller than I expected for the $5.25 charge for the side pancake. I ended up getting hungry three hours after my lunch. My three friends were happy with their orders though (see pics) and liked what they got and thought the meals were big enough. Maybe the specific items that I ordered are small size by default.

Coffee from carafe was cold. Put up a new carafe and it was barely warm. Latte, fresh pressed from the espresso maker was warm at best. French toast and sausage patties was not hot and it was picked up when placed on counter. Egg sandwich was warm. Also picked up promptly. Street parking Friday morning~ 9:45 am was easy and close to cafe. Nice front entry to open seating. Traffic into the cafe picked up around 10:30 with the locals stopping in and talking with the staff. Was sorry the experience wasn't better.

Best chicken salad sandwich I've ever had. I'm in my 70's and I've eaten plenty of chicken salad. I don't eat dark meat in chicken salad and should I bite down on grissle, I'm done! I'm driving from Kalamazoo with a friend to come just for lunch. Love this little gem.

Sept. 2022 Review: Tried the avocado toast, with a side of eggs and Plath's Bacon, Spinach and Swiss on an English muffin! Fantastic once again!May 2022 Review: We got food this trip, and went back again the next day! The Big Veggie Wrap, soups and Avocado BLT are all amazingly delicious! We really liked the Vanilla Iced Lattes with Oat Milk too!2021 Review: Great iced Almond Mocha Joy and blended Caramel Cloud latte! Staff were great! Inviting interior! Outdoor seating out back. We didn't get food, and regret it. While waiting for the drinks we watched dish after dish get passed to the runner. Everything looked and smelled amazing! It honestly seemed like the plates were going faster than the coffee! Well worth the few minute wait though 😁

My favorite place here in the heart of downtown Petoskey. The alt vibes and array of ppl that choose to spend there time here just makes me happy. It's very relaxed, casual. With vegan options, breakfast and lunch. The Italian stallion is my go to drink, I'm a hazelnut gal myself usually. To give reference of what I normally like, but their lemonade, the blueberry lavender is another great option

Denver egg wrap was the perfect breakfast this morning for us! The plath’s ham was amazing. Also saw that they had soup flights available which we will have to come try for lunch sometime this winter. Service was great and very fast!

Trendy, friendly, relaxing. Have a cup of Java and listen to contemporary pop music. We had the vanilla Greek yogurt pancakes and the breakfast plate. Waited a few minutes for my name to be called and had a yummy breakfast. There were four flavors of coffee already brewed plus iced and other options on the menu. Bathroom is tiny and a little dirty butt not bad enough to take a star away. Recommended.

Would give 0 stars if possible. Everything just seems dirty. The food was basically inedible. The eggs were gray in some spots and way too overdone/rubbery The potatoes were uncooked and the strawberry jelly was so watery. The process for getting all of your own stuff is a cluster when it’s busy. I’m surprised they didn’t make us go back into the kitchen to cook our own food and then wash our own dishes after.

We may have gone to Roast and Toast twice today. Just sayin’. They have a lavender honey latte!! Of course I’m going to go back in the afternoon for another one! My husband and I went to Roast and Toast for breakfast before skiing and got the egg wraps and lattes. They wraps were huge! We definitely could have split one. The potatoes that came with the breakfast were great and I liked them better than typical breakfast potatoes. Not only is the food really good, the lattes are amazing and it’s just so darn cool inside! There are little nooks with benches for you to sit in that I just love! It makes it feel very cozy. I will definitely recommend this place to all my friends traveling to Petoskey!Edit: we went back to breakfast the next day and I had the avocado toast, which was awesome!! I wish I had gotten a double order it was so good. Then we went back again after skiing, of course, for our afternoon lattes. Visiting 4 times in 2 days isn’t too much, I don’t think. 😄

Super sandwiches made from a nice selection of fresh ingredients. You order, pay and the food is bought to the table. We had a Mediterranean wrap and Vegetarian avocado sandwich with coffee. Limited seating, so busy times might require a wait. Very wide selection of hand picked coffee beans. Limited street parking, but nice walk if you cannot find a parking spot in front.

Ordered the BYO Deli Sandwich. We had looked at the menu online and 'the extras' seemed to be what you wanted on your sandwich. Turns out they are all $.25 extra per item. Not really cool. Took a $9 sandwich to an $11 sandwich quick. Just not cool in my opinion. Now if it was extra meat items, I get it, but veggies...A little confusing on how everything works here, too, with the different bar items... whether I'm supposed to get our sandwich from the counter... just confusing. The sandwich was delicious! The other stuff just needs fine tuned.

The food was good so kudos for that. The atmosphere is a little strange. No direction from staff as to where to sit, wait to be seated, etc. No greeting so my first time there I just stood there for a bit. When we ordered the first two things we ordered were not available ughhh. Also No blended coffee drinks....but smoothies ??Your name is called out, and you pick up your own food. No guidance as to where cutlery is (and its set up strangely once you locate it). When you are finished you bus your own table which I hate. It's not my job when eating out to scrape my foid from the plates and then walk down to place them on a counter RIGHT NEXT TO WHERE I PICKED UP MY FOOD !!! GROSS.Also for a coffee establishment there were maybe 4 choices for bakery items. None looked appetizing nor fresh.First and last visit.

My boyfriend and I absolutely love coming here every time we’re in Petoskey. We’re frequent fliers and come every morning we’re up north.Personally, we love the self serve atmosphere. This place is BUSY. There’s never really a calm moment there and for how chaotic it is, the staff kill it. Yes there is a wait. Yes sometimes they can get stressed. But they kill it. Food is always delicious and hot. Drinks are stellar. (Personal favorites are the Breakfast Plate, Lorraine Wrap, and French-toast plate. Turtle Mocha, and Autumn Sunset are the best coffees imo!)You can definitely tell who come in and are not expecting self-serve and cleanup lol. My partner and I love helping. A lot of the diners help out each other too which I love. Cleaning up and offering tables to others waiting, helping hand out items etc. We love that atmosphere. It’s busy because it’s good. It’s so worth the wait. We’re coming forever. Thanks! <3

This is a fun and casual place for coffee with breakfast and lunch offerings. It's neither upscale nor beatnik, but low key and interesting. Everything is made fresh to order and there's typically four choices of homemade soup. It's an order at the counter, grab when your name is called, and buss your own dishes, type of place. There are multiple places to sit and also Wi-Fi if you want to linger for a bit and work on your computer. It can get busy during the summer months, but it is worth it because the food and coffee are good. Also, don't miss the scones near the front cash register.Parking: Typical metered street parking, also a metered parking lot in back of the building with a stairway and rear entrance.

The place is just a very fun experience. Everything taste good and the service was extremely kind and actually efficient. We came at peak season on a Sunday morning and we still got our order in a fast fashion. There is plenty fun on the wall for a unique experience. Is it the best food and coffee in the world? Not at all but this is a fantastic place when you take into account the location, the cost and the quality.

On our way back down from a UP trip we wanted something quick but filling and Roast & Toast sure delivered! So many tasty options, we got the quesadilla and cranberry chicken sandwich, both delicious! The Fairy milk was great too. Good prices.

My husband and I decided to try this restaurant for the first time. I ordered an avocado sandwich on gluten free bread and a cup of lentil soup. I have food allergies so I eat gluten free daily. I received my sandwich and went to pick it up and the whole thing literally crumbled. I asked the girls at the counter who made it if they could give me toasted bread instead. The response was even if you toast it the bread will still fall apart like that. I told them I eat gluten free bread daily and if you toast it a little extra it won’t. Instead of being polite and providing good customer service and accommodating me they acted as though they didn’t want to be bothered. One girl literally said I would need to give them the stuff on it back! All I asked for is toasted bread so I could eat the sandwich I paid for. They continued making other food so I walked off. I had to try to eat the sandwich with a fork and knife. I ended up leaving it on the table. Here is a picture after I scooped up all the broken up bread and crumbles. Very disappointing. The manager/owner needs to work with the employees on the meaning of excellent customer service. We’ve owned a successful business for many years and customer service is our #1 priority.
